Can we please have some sort of penalty for smoking in combat?
It's ridicule that I waste 4 rounds to drop someones sanctuary to have them Rescast it with no mana cost, right after it falls.
Casters have to flee to cast sanctuary. We eat damage while we do it. Warriors can charge us, or other stuff. 75 mana is spent, this is 8-10% of most classes mana.
So i propose that smoking in combat is the same as quafing a vial. You have a random chance to fail it.
25% or 50%. I just want some incentive for people to flee when I drop their sanctuary.
Its a consumable - last I checked you can cast dispel an infinite number of times (assuming you stay above 0hp). No player in the game carries an infinite number of consumables.
I don't think its really that necessary to make changes to make it any harder on melee characters.
L-A
EDIT: Never mind. Figured out answers for my own questions.
I think it is a good idea to have a small (10%) chance to botch smoking while in combat.
Uh, I think if you drink/smoke in combat, your opponent has the chance to knee you in the jaw for a graze! Just for fun!

But I really LOVE seeing you waste 4 rounds just to have me put it back up before the round has passed and without fleeing

You can smoke in combat too. With my mages I always stack on herbs just in case I need fast sanc. Bothers you that you are playing a cleric and you need consumables?

Actually the chance of failing to quaff a vial is much higher than 50% from what I've experienced. Not to mention the fact that you have to hold it bla bla bla.

I want my malform to cast lvl 60 spells of powerwordkill and demonfire. I won't mind hellstream too. Oh and dispel magic. I want my warrior to land at least 80% of his strikes against c/c, after all he is dual wielding 2 weapons you don't know and has 60 hitroll. I want my thief's traps back to the level they used to be. Oh and I want that autothrow to be the same as old again. Also I want bards to have doublesheat, I would actually make one then. What else... yeah I want berserker rage paths to be more useful. Currently the only useful path is anger anyway. And I want neutral/good zerkers to have just as much chance of ignoring damage as evil zerkers. Oh and ROAR should be like hysteria, not like fear.
WHAT ABOUT MY BLADEMASTERS? You don't even want to know what I want about them, besides they are already OP enough
PS. I like jibber's idea, I don't mind a graze
Actually, I agree that there should be a failrate to smoking while in battle as well. Try drinking a potion, and you will often fumble with it. And it would make pills more useful again.
What is the difference whether the aura is going to from pill or herb anyway? You know Mya is going to come complaining when you put that aura up back with a pill...
Btw there is a thing called timing, I would advice you (Mya) to try it sometimes
Dispel is not a skill, you have to bypass saves. You can never be quite sure when it's going to land. I normally throw dispels, when I have nothing better to do. Or if it's part of a plan, like Flight dispeling in flight only room.
"Bothers you that you are playing a cleric and you need consumables?"
Totally hate it. I wish I could play a Avian Cleric.
Which totally reminds me, why I never seen Dirt Haymaker?
Hoo right, Clerics can use sanctuary white blinded.
Pills cannot be found in stacks of 8.
And by the way is there any smoking herb that cures?
Just to add, Why the hell do we have this stupid Herbs of sanctuary and no scroll of sanctuary?
Scrolls - > Powerful Magics.
Herbs -> Forest Lores, Healings
And this is not about Clerics. Clerics can cast it. Hybrids's should have scrolls of sanctuary.
And by the way is there any smoking herb that cures?
Not that I know of, but you can eat the hearts for cure while in battle.

And haymaker has to go through AC, so it goes both ways.

What does dirt haymaker mean?
Pills cannot be found in stacks of 8.
Yes but pills do not rot, so in that way they are actually easier to pile.
And by the way is there any smoking herb that cures?
Yes.
I am totally lost. Seems Mya needs to play a class that uses herbs, and subject herself to their availability. Yes some "leaves" stack in the wilderness, but they are in a certain place, in the corner of the world, and they CAN be sacrificed. Know your enemies needs and deny them for the win. As for a penalty for smoking, I would like to see the chances for addiction increase exponentually for smoking while "under the affects" and durations of "drug usage" cut in half when smoking while you are already high.(durations of drug usage not to be confused with the duration of the drugs effect)
Croyvern is right..
mya, you try to make it out as if it's such an easy thing to do to get all those sanctuary vials, herbs, and pills and then they have infinite sanctuary/other buffs, when in fact it's not easy. I've played my share of melees AND mages (and I think I'm far more successful with mages) and I know for a fact I was always, CONSTANTLY looking for herbs/pills/vials on my melee. Constantly. While the mage I was fighting was resting, I was running around, catching a tick here or there, and gathering all the consumable that were used the fight before.
As a mage, I locate the black leaves, red leaves, vials, etc, and I farm them too! Why? Because fighting a melee without sanctuary is just that much easier. I found myself sacrificing them a lot, and limiting their sanctuary supply and even waiting for them to come along looking for them. I would locate them continually until I saw them leave the ground and go into the hands of the melee to know where they were at that given moment.
Hands down, this is balance with mages being on the more competitive edge. Mages are definitely easier to play than melees, imho.
Not to mention that if you are a good cleric sacrificing those herbs becomes so much more easier, but I guess thats not enough for Mya.
Can we plaese code a "win" skill just to satisfy her?
Don't be mean F0xx. I do like a challenge in PK.
But some changes block long lasting mechanics.
Herbs introduction has been a bad day for me. Mostly due to Sanctuary. I would prefer more vials available than this herbs. But what is done is done.
Potions,Scrolls, Wands, Staves are all items of magic. Herbs are natural things. Sure I see an Herb granting Frenzy, perhaps even detect invisible. But not faith Sanctuary spell.
I would love those Herbs to be replaced with vials. Same Sanctuary, trading combat smoking for no addiction.
Staves of sanctuary are awful. There is the Ankh(Wand) and the Glimmering(Stave) and that is all. All others are quite bad.
Hoo, Dirt-Haymaker. Is when you dirt, then Haymaker. He cannot get his sanctuary back up if he cannot see it.
As if the game wasn't already mage-oriented enough?! Mya, do you know how much time melees have to spend collecting enough consumables to be even semi-viable in combat? Combine that with being the FAR more equipment dependent class type and you've already got an uphill battle for any melee-oriented class.
At 50:
-
You can outheal them and outregen them (invoker excluded)
-
You can burn through their consumables without any loss to you
-
Most C/Cs have abilities to cripple a melee for an extended period of time, Melee has to hope the C/C makes a mistake or is generally slow
-
Many cabal skills and spells benefit C/Cs more than (or at worst the same as) they do melees.
-
You can use the same consumables, and in a battle of attrition you win
Haymaker can punch the dirt right out of your eyes, making it a non reliable tactic.
