Computer Help: Linux and Loki Games

I've had it for the time being. I'm pretty much a beginner when it comes to linux. I can fire around the terminal enough to know what's going on, at least when I have my book next too me. (don't have every command memorized yet)

And I recently got a hold of Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri + Alien Cross Fire for linux, reworked by Loki Software, and put it on my laptop. Installed it, it worked fine for a few days. Then today all it does is crash. Go to some web sites finding out that it doesn't fit well with newer distros. And it's told me how to fix the problem. The issue? I can't figure out how to make heads or tails of the directions for the loki patch/updater tool.

This stuff is beyond me. So far beyond me I have no idea what's going on. I'm not giving up, but what I'm wondering is if anyone has any experience with the Loki Software game updater/patcher tool? I know it's a long shot. I'd go to their website and ask them questions, but they apperantly closed down years ago. Meaning little (read pretty much "no") support on this.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, so long as it isn't telling me to quit being a "nub" and to "go back to windows".

If it helps, I'm using Ubuntu 6.06 "Dapper Drake" on an old Dell Latitude Laptop. If you need anything else to help, let me know.

Thanks for the offer, as I can see she got all the beauty in your family. ;) But I do have a girlfriend.

Oh, and by the by, I don't play in a band. I rock it solo. No one can compete with my skillz of C, F, and G.... with the occasional Em. And even sometimes, I'll finger pick and do barre chords. Fo 'Rizzle.
