Returning beginner questions

I just started playing this wonderful game again after several months absence, but even when I played before I was fairly new. After returning (and forgetting what little I knew beyond a page or two worth of notes i had taken) I'm lost again.

1) Is there anyplace outside of the mud to learn about where to gather basic leveling gear? My character I had before was grouped up to near level 30, and never really learned how to gather much gear. Or is the only place to gain this knowledge IC and in game?

2) Would I be better off starting a new character and trying to re-learn where to get things rather than getting the existing one killed repeatedly?

Thanks for any insight you can provide!

Welcome to FL. Or welcome back. Or whatever. :)

Yes, adventurer is a good class to have a look around with. And the best place to learn where to find stuff, is in game. You can join the academy, then the heralds will teach you some basics. Do the quests you get from your guildmaster, also. That will help you find some basic things.

Make either an adventurer or a good human/dwarf cleric. Explore like... um... an explorer. ID everything. You'll find that most low-mid level eq is found relatively near the main cities of Val Miran, Rheydin, and Miruvhor. Search around them.

Wow, I'm impressed by the number of responses I've gotten in such a short time.

Thanks for the excellent advice!

See, when I'm doing something online that takes too much focus for me to play, or I may be called away too suddenly for me to play, I just troll the forums for fun. ;)

Same as Pali, besides, we (FL) are always looking for new players, or people to return to playing. FL is much more fun when there's people to RP/PK.

Also, join the Academy, it's like having IC newbie chat. You can join in Rheydin, three south, two west and south of central commons. And like others said, don't be afraid to ask people in game for help, or ask if you can identify their equipment. A bard is helpful in this case, because they get both identify AND lore, which tells you what area a piece of equipment comes from.

One more thing...if you want to know where you're at, do a 'look sky'. (It doesn't work indoors).

Welcome back, yo.

I still tell the people that they'd have a hard time trying to get what they were wanting, but tell them the area where they could find some of the better weapons, but I'd never get pissed at them for asking an honest question. Even tell them to not speak of a game but tell them a more selective word choice to use so no one ever did get pissed.

Sometimes I offer to take that lvl 12 to see Mhroden so they can get the battlemasters blade. Then I lock them in.

Ok, I've never really done this - but I know there were a few lvl 50s who did. Mightn't be the best for to lower and newer players but it sure hammered home the point about alignment, ethos and not trusting people.

L-A

PS - No, it wasn't done to me. I'm far too paranoid ;)

Yes, create a human adventurer, and then perhaps chose bard as the class.

Cleric is also good, but hard to kill monsters at low levels.

And please take the Adventurers perk at character creation detailed options.

This will allow you to gain ranks faster, and as a newbie you will die a lot needing this extra help.

Also copy paste everything you ID into a notepad.txt file, so that you learn what things do. Dont forget to take note of where the object can be found (area) and who holds it.

Try the command:

Look sky

  • 3 weeks later...
restart' date=' roll an adventurer.[/quote']

A lvl 30 adventurer can safely explore the entire east to west "alley" that is Miruvhor to Val Miran. It is a class that appears to be completly designed for solo survival and exploration (haha, isnt that the point?).

Want to learn the mud terrain, consumeable locations, rares, base equipment then roll an adventurer. When you are 30, stop, explore. Map the place out, then make your selection on what you want. No pk pressure and access to 70% of the game. What better way to learn than that?
