Short and Furious
i see people who are banned from the forums from time to time only to get unbanned then rebanned... do they get banned from playing at the same time as well? some of these people get unbanned, so i'm assuming its a time-out of sorts. if so do these time-outs get lengthier with each offense (i.e. 24 hours>3 days>a week>permanently)? i wasn't around for two years+ (i left right after virigoth switched the mud from 2.0 to 3.0 and it had to get switched back due to technical difficulties and just got back about two-three weeks ago) so i missed when the mud got shut down completely due to fed-up imms. if i had been actively playing when this happened i would have been bummed right out. i'd rather not see any portions of the forums get shut down (its happened in the past with PvP logs. sucked because a few people couldn't follow a few simple rules and it effected everyone). i agree with whoever stated the imms are getting tired. i'd be tired to begin with just taking on the responsibilities of being an imm, but some of the BS flaming/whining/ego fluffing/etc. on the forums and i can only guess the amount of work and patience one would have to have in game... hell, i'd be downright burnt out. i enjoy reading the shout-outs (never been in one, never will, so please don't take this as me liking to read up on the mad props i'm getting from the more gifted players out there). i'm not writing this to be a kissass. i'm writing this because i'm worried there won't be a forum, or even a mud, if enough of the right people decide that's how its going to be. forums have been shut down before, imms have quit/shut down the mud as well. i've been having a blast since i've come back, take it as me being selfish if you want. the imms are doing a good job IC (have had some great roleplaying with some), as well as trying to keep the mud balanced at 50 along with everything else. attempting to keep things balanced sometimes involves things becoming unbalanced, and at the very least an adjustment period (remember when there was NO lag after recalling? remember how 'unfair' it was when the lag was introduced? it was nessecary). people obviously enjoy playing here (there were an AWFUL lot of people here when the mud went down for half a day). guess i'm asking if we as the player base could please make a conscious effort to read what we type before we hit the 'submit new thread' button? 95% of us that play ARE adults, and our objective here is to have fun. keeping the babysitting in game and on the forums down to where its the exception and not the rule would be a nice gesture from the playerbase towards the imms. sorry for the novel, i got rolling and my ADHD set in. guess to make a long story short the player base needs to make an effort just as the staff (already) does. its a two-way street. /rant off and stream of conscience typing split up so its somewhat readable. -SaF
kahlos
If you use paragraphs I'd make a shout out just for you. I don't think they get banned IG too.. just the forums.
Tantangel
Yeah, banning usually happens for 2-3 days that I've seen for first offense and permaban of the forum handle if they are really out about it, but usually doesn't happen. Believe you can ask for a ban as well so that you're not tempted to play because you're starting to focus more on the game than RL things. I agree with paragraphs though, it was a pain to read through without it being split up into at least 2 paragraphs, but I have to agree with what you say. As far as I've seen, Imms do a good job at keeping the game being more balanced than what it had been in the past. Takes patience to do what they do without snapping, and they do it pretty good. savnt
The forum is as it always has been. Eventualities - Impstaff will get burnt out. Impstaff will get angry. Impstaff will quit. Someone will pick it up with permission or not. Immstaff will be hired. Immstaff will grow apathetic or move up. Immstaff will be fired. Players, new and old will flame. Players will ego fluff. Players may or may not get banned. Players will return one way or another. Forum will be cracked down on. Forum will close. 21309321098 other forums will open. Forum will reopen. Rules will slowly be softened. There will be an immortal ultimatum made on subject. Players will eventually break the Camels Back with a last piece of straw. Something will be taken away and given back, if not under the current staff, then the next. I've been here off and on since pretty close to the beginning. I appreciate your concern, but as a vet yourself... stand back a minute and take a look at the timeline. History has repeated itself so so so so so many times. If muds are still played in 3 years, the same stuff from the last 8 will happen here. We can complain... we can make open screams for improvement... but although it sounds pessimistic... it will come down to the imms enforcing the rules they want to enforce (whatever they may be at the time), and players getting caught red handed. It's the circle of life. Go watch the lion king.
Celerity
That is a very apathetic pre-modern outlook on things, savnt. Things can, and will, change. That is up to the IMMs and PLAYERS to decide. The future isn't nearly as set in stone as you make it out to be. If you sit back and blame everything on the circle of MUD, of course nothing will change. Not because of the circle but because you didn't do anything except fulfill your own pessimistic prophecy (and spreading it too). It is about attitude, not some fatalistic philosophy. If you want things to change, they will.

Mindflayer
I agree with Celerity. Enjoy the forums responsibily, they are a wonderful FREE resource. Much like the very game we're all obsessed with.
TheNewGuy
Yeah, BS, Savnt. How about we learn from history, instead of sitting back and letting it repeat itself?
L-A
Svnt: I disagree 100% with your outlook - and I would suggest that: 1) You feel this way becasuse you were recently involoved with another forum about Forsaken Lands that blatantly disregarding all rules and spirits of the game. This says to me to live by the 'brat' mentality (typical of many Gen-Ys) and have no love for the game beyond furthering your own ego and want 'everything' now with not effort put in on your part. 2) Things will get better or things will get worse - and as players we have a responsibility to see they get better. I believe the game is getting better all the time with an active IMM Staff that has been correcting bugs, putting out new areas etc. Players are playing, new players are coming. It is up to us =THE PLAYERS= to show what is and is not acceptable on teh forums as well as in game. The IMMs enforce rules, yes. However, players are far more effective in influencing other players thorugh attitude, example and honest advice. 3) If you truly feel this way why do you want to play here? Honestly, I don't think I"ve seen a positive post from you in a long, long time. There are plenty of 'God Wars' MUDs that don't require anything for you to have full access to everything on them - why not play one of these where you can have everything whenever you want it? savnt
Celerity - Then change the world. LA - I haven't been involved in anything regarding fl in a while, due to three massive moves, the last of which will land me in china in five days. I did stick up a forum a site temporarily when this one crashed a few months back but lost interest in a few days due to more pressing matters. I also haven't had a character in quite some time, and popped my head on a few times to check on major issues that have been there since 1.0 after talking to someone about it on the phone. For a hearty chuckle, say death in front of the succubus in the temple of the winds in banor, for example. I don't know why I feel I need to defend myself. Instead I will take a few screen shots of the forum, and come back in a year when I get back and post them.

Aulian
Hrmm alright Ive just come back from a forum ban. It happens about once a year when I do something stupid (im only human) But for all of you that say the bans are effective... I was banned for 10 days.. well actually it was 11 because of a problem with the forum... So all I can say is sometimes people make mistakes and they get banned, happens to us all.. But 10 days is a long time and I feel re-abilitated, I don't think I'll re-offend for atleast another year just my 2cents upon my return. Kyzarius
You are not the only one... Oh, I do not think that at all. Hence the "us" I just find it funny when I see posts that elude to some kind of difficulty in avoiding getting banned. I am sure there are dozens of players here that have never been banned.
