PK lessons on test port.

It's probably been suggested before, but a quick search didn't yield any obvious results. Would it be possible to open up the test port for PK lessons? It might be tough to find a teacher, but I'm sure there's someone out there who is competitive at PK and wouldn't mind spreading the knowledge/skills.

To those who suggest to just roll more characters, play more, and test more, I'm telling you that I've been lurking for at least nine years now. I was relatively competitive for the first two to three years. I took several long lapses, and each time I've returned, the Pbase's PK ability has grown exponentially. I have been unable to adapt thus far and would greatly appreciate a boost.

I've tried playing as a moderate, but so few characters actually take this choice, that it doesn't lend itself to a separate type of league. This means you just have to fight against the PK monsters but with fewer rares.

My last several attempts at characters have been flops, and a bit of success would really increase my morale as a player. I might be just missing some basic knowledge that is holding me back on a conceptual level. Lessons would definitely help with that. If more players felt confident in the PK realm, I think more creativity would shine through and the game would improve overall.

Are there any others who would appreciate/have a true need for this? Anyone willing to teach?

I like the idea.

i can understand why this would be asked for, but i would have to disagree with the notion.

im not terribly good at PK myself. I can do it, but there are some times that i've done some very stupid things. but still, i find that there is always something to learn from every fight. whether its simple, like "never go into a fight without sanc" or "never dirt a zerker" or something incredibly complex, like how certain spells work. it takes a lot of time and effort at times, reviewing logs and picking apart every move you and your opponent make.. but i have yet to fight a fight that I have not learned from.

I suffered for oh ever. Then a certain suddenly missing female monk opened my eyes to a key I had missed for oh Ever. Timing. What? Did he just say that? Duh, and I never thought it mattered. Thanks Z For oh Ever. Though showing me what you did unleashed a demon I can not control, I will ever be thankful.

Timing is one of the most simple, yet one of the most important things in this game

I never said the opposite

Why can't you 'practice' PK on the main port? I think players try harder when there is something to lose

More seriously this sounds like a job for the challenge command. I don't think its a good idea to allow 100% safety - danger is part of the PK game.

Lytholm.

Ditto.

Set rules, issue challenge, you've got yourself a test port!

Problem will be gone after you've condeathed a WM or two. That takes an eternity as their deaths do not count towards their total for the first two ranks.

The benefit of the test port practice sessions would be OOC chats before, after, and even sometimes during the battle. You can be more candid and talk about mistakes made with someone who might not share that info in game.

In truth, I've found that many, many characters will gladly talk about your mistakes in game in an IC way. For that, I'm very thankful.

I'm still for the test port idea, but I'll take your advice. Rolling a WM wannabe now.

That would basicly give you a hack and slash version of FL....

Another thing we've offered before is log ALL your fights and post them on prayer, not for posting on the pk section but for advise. Staff has some very competent pkers Be sure to tell us if you wish the log posted or not.

And I assure you all, they give the best advice from one of your logged fights. I had no clue how terrible my timing was. I saw a huge increase in just how LONG I lasted in fights.

Thanks to all the IMMs that helped me with that.

Wtf, stop helping him! How am I gonna feed my malforms now...

Trust me, man. I've been around long enough to experience some high highs and some very low lows. I've had the complete experience, save for actually developing a legitimate PK competency that competes with today's elite. I know FL players tend really push a 'self-reliance over spoon-feeding' dichotomy, but let me assure you that I'm not asking to be spoon-fed. I just need a little help because months and months of failure really drains you if you keep failing at something you love to do.

Also, Imms, I didn't know about that service. It's that type of support that keeps players coming back for more. I'll be sure to take y'all up on that offer.

Staff has some nasty characters as well

You can get all the help you need in game as well, you just need to ask nicely.

Simply Awesome. Wish Ihad done this with Jevril, then an Imm could have asked me, have to No idea what timing is? Heh.

The test port thing is tarded. Just play and don't give up, you'll get the hang of it as long as you actually learn from your mistakes. But yeah, pk logging? I always log and review the fights I lose and make mental notes. I've been playing for like... what... going on 8 years now and I still totally noob out sometimes. First step to succeeding in PK is to keep your cool. If you freak out (lord knows I used to when I was younger), then you will probably lose.
