Evangelion
I wanted to share some good news with you guys. Let me start with a little background: Obesity runs in my family - my great aunt recently died of a heart attack, my uncle has diabetes, both of which have been attributed to being overweight. On the whole, my entire family runs on the larger side. I'm a big guy. I'm 6'3", and at my physical before school, weighed in at 310 lbs. I'm just all around big. Hell, I'm fat. Well, ever since coming to JMU, I've been eating less, walking a lot more (around campus), sitting at the computer less, and going to University Recreation (the gym) several times a week. Now for the good news - I weighed in tonight at 297 lbs. This is a huge accomplishment for me, and hopefully the beginning of a trend. It's the first time in about 6-8 months that I've weighed in under 300 lbs. I'm also giving serious thought to joining, or starting if there's not one already, a Weight Watchers group on or around campus, in order to actually WATCH what I eat, instead of just lessening the quantity (which has likely had a big impact). Just thought I'd let you guys know.
Raargant
Great. The key is to keep it up though. Good to hear, and best of luck in keeping it up. Remember: the key is persistence and perseverance!

f0xx
Congrats on the achievement. Here is a small tip of mine, don't eat anything after 6 pm. Evening meals are the most dangerous. A lot of people think that being on a diet = starvation. That is not right, diet means, a right and healthy way of eating.

elfdude
What do you do in the gym? I could link you a good starting workout. I bet you could get a friend to go in and do the same routine with you. Its alot easier to stick with a plan when you have someone getting on your *** about it. Zrothum
Swimming is excellent. Especially for obese people. If they can get over being shy enough to be in a pool with people. Its easy on the joints and if you swim aggressively, you can achieve peak heart rate. I <3 swimming
Grishnak
JMU has great motivation for dropping those pounds. He doesn't need anyone on his butt about it, trust me. Seeing the abnormally high number of gorgeous co-eds on that campus is all the motivation any healthy college boy needs. Keep up the good work. You better be in your prime when I come to town. Evangelion
Hah. The pool at UREC is the first place I've had my shirt off in public in years. And yes, Grishnak, the 70-30 girl to guy ratio is a pretty good motivator for getting into shape.

Zrothum
and think about weight training. Weight doesn't mean crap. If you can turn your body fat around and actually "feel" a difference, your weight won't bother you at all. You'll lose weight still, but at a slower decline, and see an increase in strength. Confidence will boost and numbers will disappear. I wish I weighed 300lbs and everyone who knows me, knows that.

EyeSeeU
Yeah little ole me here I've been trying to gain weight/muscle mass for the past 2 years. For my 6' 4" frame I have only amassed a weight of 223 pounds. Which is closer to where I want to be but not quite there. I must say our bodies are quite tricky and hard to manage but if you keep with it its actually not all that tough. Congrats to you my man, I wish you all the best... oh yeah keep those heads turning!!!
Chayesh
Lose a few inches and you'll be so impressed you'll just want to throw away all your shirts. So that's the excuse for your avatar pic? The idea is that other people are supposed to impressed. But to Bali, great job. Keep it up. Your height will help you also, as you can carry more weight and look and feel more in shape, depending mostly on wear you carry it. In other words, it won't take as long as you might think before you really start to see a BIG difference in how you look and feel (in relation to a shorter person whose frame can't carry the build). Kyzarius
300 pounds = 136.077711 kilograms google ftw. Glad to hear someone else discoverd diet and exercise is really the only way to lose weight. For exercise my wife and I jump on te treadmill 3 times a week for a mile or two, and I couch my sons soccer team...keeping 10 8/9yr olds in line/drills/scrimmages is a workout in itself. Major props to you so many people I see, and know, blame anything to do with health (epecially obesity) on exterior elements. When in truth, self improvement begins and ends with the self. Kinicky
Here is a small tip of mine' date=' don't eat [b']anything after 6 pm. I also find that if you don't feed after midnight, it keeps you from being wrapped in a cocoon and morphing from a cute cuddly guy into an evil green gremlin.
