First time I slapped down over 2k on a system; this will be the proper gaming PC I've always wanted . I've read some absolutely RAVE reviews about the 8800 GTX, and apparently the Q6600 quad core can be overclocked from 2.4 ghz to 3.0 ghz relatively easily, with virtually no performance/stability issues. Anyone buy a computer recently with those two components? What was your experience?
Unknown Criminal
I found that paying that much for a system to play a text based game on was a little much:) UC
Raargant
Fortunately, that's not an issue for me these days. Playing text games, that is. Not slapping down 2500.

Raar - Never seen them in action, but also have heard very nice things! Hope it treats you good. I'm pleased with my new laptop
BigMac
What brand is the machine? It looks like it's homebuilt, but the support/warranty thing is a dead giveaway that it's not. Also, processors are all different. Each dye is going to react to overclocking differently. I wouldn't overclock that processor more than a few hundred megahertz until the machine becomes obsolete. I've seen the Intel Xeon Clovertown's in use and they're absolutely amazing processors. I'm sure the Core 2 Quad's are pretty amazing... and I'm an AMD guy. But all in all, that's a fat *** system. Props.

It's a Digital Storm computer; I've heard and read nothing but positive reviews about these guys, and they offer prices roughly half a grand to a grand cheaper than Alienware (damn Dell's twisted black soul!) these days for equivalent products, so I thought I'd take the plunge. I'll tell you guys how it works out. With regards to overclocking, keep in mind that the quad has a 1066 mhz FSB, whereas chips like the duo operate at 1333 mhz FSB. By all that I've read, the quad really is an excellent chip for OC'ing; I've read more than a few reports of people being able to overclock it to 3.2 ghz+ on air cooling without sacrificing any stability (apparently, 3.4 ghz can be achieved at 50 C, and a few people have even OC'd to 3.6 ghz plus), and even as high as 4.0 ghz+ on liquid cooling. I bought an option where the company (Digital Storm) which is assembling this will ship it overclocked to around 3.0 ghz out of the box, with promise of perfect stability, which is pretty nice, since it means overclocking issues won't void the 3 year parts-included warranty
Raargant
What are you playing now? To be honest, between work, writing, and just general life stuff, not much . That will have to change. Waiting for some heavy hitters like SCII, Hellgate London, and intend to enjoy games like Bioshock.

EyeSeeU
Nice COMP RAAR!!! I need to get a new one myself sooner or later, sooner being the kicker here. Since the 360/ps3 have come out I've stopped playing PC games however within the past month or so I have been trying to get back into them. Especially with Bioshock and a plethora of other games that are up an coming. I will say this, Assassins Creed is keeping my interest into the consoles but barely. That game just looks so sexy I wanna.... oh yeah what was I saying?
Raargant
I thought about getting a 360/PS3, but just couldn't justify slapping that amount of money down when there aren't that many games that I am interested in. If/when the likes of God of War III, FFXIII, etc. come out, THEN I'm going to start eyeing the darn PS3. PS: Assassin's Creed will be out on the PC as well... EyeSeeU
GOD OF WAR!!!! I love the hell outta this series aswell. I couldn't believe the ending for GOW2 then again maybe I just didn't want to believe it. Here you go climbing up thinking hell yeah I am about to go wreck Zeus for good, then its like BLAMO!!! GOD OF WAR III! coming soon.
Raargant
Haha, yes, I absolutely know what you mean. If it weren't for the fact that GoW2 was such a great damn game, I'd hold a grudge against them. As it is, I am eagerly anticipating buying GoW3 for the PS3. That, and FFXIII, are the deal-makers for me; I'll buy the PS3 just to play those two games, if they are well-executed.
Chayesh
I swear by AMD chips and eVGA Nvidia chipset gpu's. Love 'em. Did they stick you with that new resource hog OS Vista or were you able to get XP in it? I love a new OS, that when it comes out, publishes on their website that all your programs will run slower on it. That's quality marketing right there. EDIT: I see the Vista there. Booooooo. They couldn't even give you Home instead of Basic for that price? Lame.

Interesting, because Playstation, if smart, would do EVERYTHING in their power to keep the FF series exclusive. But, Bill Gates has all the money. And if he knows, I'm sure he does, how big the FF series is, he'll be pulling all the stops as well. Anyone else waitng for Saboteur?!

I actually chose Vista; they had the option of XP with SP2, but I decided it was probably time to familiarize myself with that OS, since gradually, it WILL become the new 'standard'. Also, I've read that a lot of the problems which it came with when it first came out have since been solved; the software's matured relatively quickly vis a vis XP. They should be having the first SP soon. I actually did the same thing with my new laptop. Have to dig into the new OS sometime. It is actually not to bad, and has many innovative features that help keep spyware at bay. The graphical intensity of the OS itself can be scaled down to more reasonabe levels. Resource hog, a little, but in truth most people (especially those who would read this thread and understand everything) have resources to spare on their pc's Kyz's Wife; "Honey, I was getting this clipart for my mysapce sight and your new computer is asking me if I gave someone permission to update my registry when I clicked on this .gif"
Chayesh
That's not the issue. It's the bulky code they added. Speaking with at least three different IT people that I know, they all hate it because of it relentless consuming of resources. Their opinions are that MS needs to streamline it to make run more efficiently. But eventually, like with most things, we will be reprogrammed into "upgrading" to something new and different. I love reinventing the wheel, don't you?

It is a resource hog, and that's why the only reason I got it was because I'm on a new machine that had better be able to handle it In all fairness though, Vista was built up from scratch as opposed to from leftover bits of code from as far back as the Windows 3.X/95 series. BigMac
Chayesh is right. It wasn't built from scratch. It's still got all of the garbage from the older versions. In a perfect world, it would've been built from scratch. But it wasn't.
Raargant
Well nothing is built -completely- from scratch. A bit nit-picky there. I've decided to have my order upgraded to premium though. Didn't realize the Aero effect was only on Premium+. Bastard Microsoft.
