Kyzarius
So, I am starting a rogue class, will be making a ninja and a thief evntually. I have never really played one, as when I did try them before I was knew 2% what I know now. I am curious though, how do you people who play sucesful rogues get around bash/bodyslam? I know you can be enlarged (I know where the consumable is for this as well), other than that though...is there any other way? I admit I have had, in the past, a horrid addiction to protective shield
Aulian
Dont attack something that can bash or bodyslam? *Chaching!* I'll be here till thursday.
Zrothum
With rogues, if you play your cards right, you won't have to worry about it. Ninja = assassinate Thief? Blackjack, traps, backstab. 99% of them will flee and you just have to chase with trip/murder/throw Now, getting caught with your pants down and bashed to death....well, that's your fault. Tantangel
Well those classes that can bash/bodyslam can usually be trip locked just as easy as they can bash/bodyslam lock you. If it's a smaller race it's harder, but doable. If you trap them into one little section with one or two exits, it makes it a LOT easier because if you flee, and they give chase, they hit your trap(s) and it hurts them to do so. If they do and you were winning and you're chasing them, it'll slow them down to the point that it'll hinder them far more than anthing else. Often times they wont be flying, they'll just be mounted since most melee's can't use scrolls/staves and potions cost quite a bit and I doubt they'd walk around with 100k all the time to specifically buy them. As long as you can hide from them, they can't catch you unprepared, you can hide and sneak though and then blackjack them to cause them grief. As a Ninja, that's another story since you'd be following to study them or if you wanted to try and melee them, but you'd have to be decently EQ'd to outmelee some of the melee's. H&R
- Always attack with sanc up (and protection if you can) - have a lot of AC - enlarge yourself everytime, if you have the energy for it (I don't ) - don't spam flee once you are locked, once is enough. Unless the basher can dish out a huge amount of damage, you will get away from the lag-lock. You don't want him running in and bash you again just after you have fled because you lagged yourself with superfluous commands, do you? I followed these rules with Nesaren, and I wasn't bashlocked to death THAT often
Celerity
yeah, if you want to fight melees toe-to-toe(why?), time to trade all that saves/+dam gear and get mostly ac and some hitroll other than that, it is mostly matter of avoiding the toe-to-toe fight to begin with
Kyzarius
Awesome, I think I understand a little more about the Rogue mentality. My current is a ninja, so, I will take the study and strike method (and ninjitsu) and test the waters. Thanks
Zrothum
Melee ninjas can be fun as well. Just, pick your targets wisely. Don't try to melee that nexus FG warrior. But, that halfling thief whom you have 2 or 3 ranks on? Toast him. DK or Pally that you can land strangle and blind on? Toast him. Assuming you actually have eq and two decent high avg weapons. Pali
As a rogue, if you get the drop on your foe, you should not need to worry about bash/bodyslam. Those skills are only useful if your opponent is already outdamaging you. If you strangle/blind/poison an unsanced foe and you have sanc, 90% of the time he's not going to be stupid enough to sit there bashing. If he is stupid enough, just laugh while he dies. tassinvegeta
Another tip, never, ever, underestimate a giant bodyslaming/bashing class, even if they are a trader or herald . Its far easier for them to defeat you then you them.
mya
If you are afraid of being bash locked, go Avian. They are the masters of lag resisting.
Kyzarius
*shrug* With Lorfaine I really did find ways to move in combat that could keep me from getting hit almost indefinatly, yet, still be close to my opponent...stringing them on for that next mal, as I hit myself with cure crits, when I was ready to apply it I would (absorbing some damage)...then jockey some more to heal. Assasinate style ninja seems to be just the same, to a degree. Jockey your opponents, avoid direct battle...strangle, wait the tics and do it again, study all the time. I know how the powers work, just in the past when I played a rogue I didnt have near the EQ/consumable/combat knowledge I have now.
Talimee
As Messalantha I tested lag logs a lot. Thieves/ninjas are very hard to lag log for a long time (high dex -> good ac helps in most cases).
Mindflayer
I've had no problem lagging locking halfling thieves recently Just ask Morit
L-A
Its the one weakness of a the rogue classes - bash/bodyslam etc. Against a well eq'd foe they really will only need to land 2 bashes/bodyslams because they will out-melee you something chronic - esp pugillists if you are a theif as they don't know staff Basically, if you get the backstab in it will comes down to if you have enough hit points to absorb the damage before you die. A backstabbed berserker who rages then starts to bodyslam will be a close battle for a thief. A rogue's biggest advantage is that of surprise. Use this to your advantage. Warmongrel
I dunno...My old ogre knight warrior would always win against thiefs, solong as I was wearing a staff. even blind poison and unsanced I would bashlock them to death. Azantar was the only one who would beat me toe to toe but as an undead I couldnt bashlock him. As every rogue I've played, everytime I was enlarged I'd get away, but that's hard to keep up on. Then again though there were only a few times I got lag locked from bash, far less than I lag locked others....>Go figures, guess I couldn't give you any advice I didn't really learn with my rogues, caus it only happend like twice.
