Wireless help?

This is going to sound like a stupid series of questions probably (I am English, after all), but bear with me.

I have a PC currently connected to high-speed internet through a broadband modem straight into my phone line. I bought a Wii the other day, and want to get that connected. Due to the location of the TV, the Wii is two floors below where my PC sits, making wireless the best choice. I've done some searching for the last 40 minutes or so, and haven't found much to help me out with my question.

My questions:

To set up this sort of wireless system, all I need is a wireless router plugged into the phone line (does a router even plug into a phone line), some sort of way for the PC to connect to it (such as a USB wireless network adapter or something) and then I can also connect to it from my Wii too. This is what I've gathered, but not sure if I'm right - sound about right?

Do I still need some sort of modem, or does the router act as a modem? I've seen two products on websites, you see - 'router' and 'modem router' and I'm not sure if they're both just the same thing functioning under different names, or whether for the former, I need a router + modem?

Any help would be much appreciated. :o

Need a modem. Modem connects into your router, router then connects to your computer via wire, or wireless. To use wireless you need to have a reciever installed into each device you plan on connecting. The Wii has one built in that you can connect to once you set up your wireless network. To set up your wireless network, well I'll explain that to you one on one :)

DSL or Cable modem goes into your line. The Wireless Router plugs into the Modem, and broadcasts it's signal.

Now, if you are like me and get a retarded IP that ships you a modem which also works as a router, not allowing you to port forward...well...

EDIT: I have since, with great ease, overcome the problem. EDIT: Most Wireless routers will have a few wired ports, as well, allowing you to hook up a standard Ethernet cable. If, you know, you want to go back to 1990.

I wouldn't buy a modem/router combo. The signal strength on them is generally poor. If you're going up two floors from your wireless access point, you may need to get a wireless signal booster on the floor above the wireless router; it just depends on how well the floors are insulated. Going through two walls with a residential-class wireless router can generally be a pain in the ***.

I'm starting to think a much better option would be to just buy another TV and put it in my room where the PC is... ;)

Two of my friends use that particular modem/router combo I posted above and have said it's really good, however everything they have rigged up to it is all in the same room, so if they generally have a poor signal I'm not sure it will be for me - the PC is based on the top floor of my house in the attic, at the front of the house and the floor directly underneath that is heavily insulated (due to it being the attic) with the Wii being two floors down AND at the back of the house in the outside conservatory. That's two floors and a wall in the way.

Another option (though hardly the best) would be to just trail wires all the way down two floors. :D

Hmm.
