Why do people full loot?

Recommended Posts

I full loot because it weakens an enemy. People I run over I tend to leave most of their stuff. People who give me one hell of a fight, I take it all. I don't want people like that at their peak if I expect to be fighting them again. (EDIT: At least, not for a while.)

I full loot as a way to punish someone my character doesn't like. Annoy me, insult me, you deserve to be treated like scum.

I full loot people who attack me out of the blue sometimes. Usually depends on how well equipped they are... if they're comparable to me, usually I'll take a few of their best things, or (say I'm a shaman) I'll take their best mal saves gear, etc.

I full loot if my RP demands it. For instance, if I'm playing a greedy character, or ANY rogue (rares I don't wear are always good for edge crafting). If I'm a Purity and I kill an evil. Neutrals I'll leave stuff, but evils will lose more or all.

In my case, most of my toons don't full loot unless they attack me. If I am hunting someone down, and kill them, then I normally leave a bit of stuff in their corpse. If the attack ME however, I jack their crap. Because if they did it once, they will do it again, and I don't like being poked. :P (of course if it is obvious that they are completely new, or even show some sort of grace after being killed, I might leave a few shiny things)

If you are in a cabal, expect to be full looted. That's just how it goes. If a non caballed person kills you, expect to be full looted. If a caballed person you are at war with kills you, expect to be full looted. If someone in your own cabal kills you, I'd even expect to be full looted in that case.

Most of the time anymore I wont loot because there's no point in doing so unless the person totally complains about me killing them, in which case they will lose as much as I can carry.

If you log off after I killed you, you'll lose it because there's no point in someone else getting it if they didn't get the kill so why should they pit hump it?

If you're in better EQ than I am, I'll take what is better and sacrifice the lesser stuff that I was wearing to try and hinder you.

If you're supposedly known to be the ultimate killer and I kill you, might as well log off because you aren't getting your things back without killing me first (assuming I kept any of it to begin with since it could be sacrificed).

Otherwise though people will keep most, if not all of their things because there's no real point in looting. The way I think of it is if you were doing this as a career way back when in the dark ages and you killed your opponent, would you really go off and take everything from that persons corpse? It'd be too much of a pain in the *** to do so so I leave a lot of things a majority of the time anymore (and yeah, people can come back to their corpses in the game, but how does your character really know that the person is coming back?).

I see looting sort as a borderline OOC knowledge where you yourself know that the person will come back and try to get their things, but your character shouldn't know they have another life, but you loot anyways. Then the people who usually full loot do so because either A) they're afraid of you, B) they know you put up a good fight and could very well come back and tool them over or C) They do it just because they can, not really caring whether or not the person could tool them over or not. I really don't care how other people full loot or decide to full loot though, because you'll have people who say they never full loot, but based off IG actions of either their characters or other characters you know that it's a lie because most people full loot and the people who actually never full loot are the ones that don't PK normally anyways. In this game you're either a Full Looter, a Partial Looter or a Non-Looter and this is summed up as: Majority of PKers are Full Looters with the mix of some Partial Looters while the RPers are majority of Non-Looters with a small part of Partial Looters. If you don't want to be full looted, go try killing a Herald, chances of you being full looted are practically non-existent.

Depending on my RP, I do not full loot. Here are some basics

You attack me with no rp, its a full loot, if you play this game only for pk, Im gonna make you hate losing, bad.

If my character would take all your loot, sorry, he is gonna take all your loot, thats just how it is.

If you put up a DAMN good fight and are a good sport about it, Ill take one or two things I need, more than likely just gold and a backpack.

If I see you as a serious threat, or you have ruthlessly tuned me up before, Im gonna loot you because I have to hinder you.

Seriously though folks, getting rares is NOT that hard, hell any class can do fine in stuff you can get solo, mithril/lightning spears FTW. Casters are even easier. If you are basing your characters success on the gear you are wearing guess what, you are not gonna be a success man, gear is gear, do not let it determine your outlook. Learn that this game is ALOT more about skill than it is about gear. If you wanna see that find the Rykoth vs Tylith pk log, you will see a monk (granted he is an avatar) in the most basic pieces of gear vs a wicked decked fire giant berserker.

I full loot because I, like many people have experienced the following:

I kill person A.

I show person A mercy and leave their things.

We fight again, person A kills me.

Person A takes everything I have, and then sends me any number of irritating tells.

It's irritating, and frustrating. So I don't let it happen, and prevent it by full looting every time.

I always full loot, but what happens next depends on my character and how ticked he is.

I generally loot everything and put it all in an extra backpack I carry specifically for looting. I leave anything I cannot touch, unless

a) The person was really unclassy and ticked me off, then I sac it.

B) The person is now sending tells consisting of 'You suck." or the like.

c) The person is a continuous enemy, and I want to hinder him so I can focus on other things.

d) The person is massively strong, and desperately needs to be taken down a tier

e) We are pre-pinn, and the person has gear he has no right having.

f) The person makes no attempt to RP with anyone that I have seen, and seems to simply focus on PK

If none of the aforementioned are true, I leave the untouchables on the ground and scurry off to a hole somewhere to wheedle through the loot, keeping what I want, and dropping what I don't. I will generally let the person know that I will let him keep what I don't want when I am done going through it. Then, when I am done going through it, I tell him where it all is.

If the person was obviously very newb, or I got a cheap kill, I'll generally leave everything except gold, and on occasion I may even leave some weapons or pieces of equipment that are better than what he was carrying. When he shows up and takes his loot, I may give him that weapon or eq piece saying something like, "Your god has seen fit to give you another chance. I expect you to do better next time."

EDIT: As a side note, if you can get back to your corpse with your attacker still there, I have found that the best way to get at least SOME of your equipment back is to RP with your killer. 9 times out of 10, I sit there and RP with them and they hand things over. I don't RP with them ABOUT handing things over, but they do it anyway. AND I have a good Rp session.

I know if you have a decent Rp session with me after dying, I will probably give some of your choicest rares back, unless they are so choice I REALLY REALLY want them.

None of you are supposed to know that the person you have killed is going to come back to life, pick their things from their corpse, and try to kill you.

This throws most people's reasons for full-looting into the trash.

As I mentioned in another post, if you can see their corpse to pick through it, you can also see on who that they still exist as a spirit. A spirit that's probably pissed at you.

If your character has ever died or killed then they know that, from time to time, the gods grant a hero another chance at life. They don't know that a new life is guaranteed, but they know the chance is there. If there's a chance that my enemy is still alive somehow/some way, I'm going to do everything I can to make sure his zombie *** isn't coming for me later.

Full looting happens. It happens at 50, it just happened to me at level 27 (I was still in mostly newbie gear) a few days ago. It's a part of FL life and it will help you get better. When death has a real penalty, death is to be avoided. Plain and simple. FL isn't a game for people who want to be able to reach a power peak and run at it forever, it's a game for people who want to grow and learn and work in an environment with virtually unlimited RP potential.

From an RP standpoint, your right. We aren't 'supposed' to know. So, from an RP standpoint, what is more important, a pair of gauntlets, or you being brought BACK to LIFE after being KILLED. If you just got killed, brought BACK to LIFE by your 'god' you should spend the next four weeks groveling at the fact that you are still alive, not spending the next hour sending pissy tells to whoever looted you and posting things on the forum.(these comments are not directed at anyone in general, nor Wayward Knight, just quoting his post).

Now, go RP and quit typing 'who' :)
