Montahg
I guess this belongs in newbie help, but I'm not entirely sure. I was wanting to make a character that is geared towards exploring areas like Winter, Gear, Blood, etc... doesn't need to be even remotely pk-capable, as I have a char(s) that give me my pk fix. Any suggestions? I was thinking a healer would be best ... what do you guys think?
Tantangel
Healer is probably best simply because they've got the HP and cures to back up the heavy damage dealt by most MOBs in the game. Often times you wont need a group to go explore the harder areas because you have the mana to heal yourself and that's about all you need really. Either that or you can make a Good Cleric and do the same, but I prefer Healers more for survivability.
mya
Storm/Halfling mystic religion healer. Halfling: This is exelent due to the AC. IF you get AC Eq you can easely get 500 AC. Mobs start to miss on you. I can tell you from experience this one is excellent, magic resistance is especially useful against that black breath.... Of course mine is trained from 1 prac, a thing you should not due in order keep mental sanity. Storm I have heard that healer with DAM gear can pack a heavy punch. And their weapon resistance means that you can hold on pretty good. This will probably kill faster, but die faster also. Never tested, because i don't like giants. Questioner
The problem with giants is their realitively low mana base. Halfling would be a good route to try. But it is always best to find a group to go with.
Montahg
What about a dwarf? Nice hp, magic resistance...
Tantangel
Dwarf would be decent, but they also have a vuln and Healers can't disarm. So basically running across any Warrior or the likes with a vuln weapon could put a decent amount of hurt into you because you can't disarm them. They'll have 900+hp as a base most likely but their mana may be too low. I personally like Elf, but with the infinite BLMs who go that as at least expertise it may not even be worth it so those other obscure races might make it easier to survive when it comes to BLMs. Dwarf will have most likely the highest base HP of all Healer races so you should be good with that. Their dex is kind of low compared to everything but maybe Storm Giant (I believe Dwarf Dex is like 18). To be honest though I think it depends more on your style of play. Each race has their own ups and downs.
Kinicky
For raw survivability I would think halfling. Hobbits are built as a defensive race anyhow. Magic resist? Uber high AC? 25 dex? Decent con? They won't kill as quickly as far as strikes go, but healers don't rely on melee much anyhow. They have decent mana to heal and whatnot. That is just my thought on it. Halflings have always struck me as being the premiere defensive race, and that's what you want for survivability.
Questioner
By the way, a blademaster should never be able to successfully kill a healer who is not link dead. As long as you keep all your protective spells up you can't die. So elves are still a very viable race for healers.
f0xx
I learned quite a lot with some of my clerics due to the calm spell. I have no idea if healers have calm, but if they do, thats even better. Also a ranger I guess would not be bad as they have sleepy arrows, so whoever attacks you goes to sleep. They also have "tame". Never used that one tho so I have no idea what it does, but I have heard its something like calm. The uber defensive class/race combo is halfling healer tho. *curse Lotho* *shakes fist*
Tantangel
I never had a real problem with BLMs, I actually nearly killed them as a Healer and the guy had mastery and expertise in Elf which made it even more easy to kill an Elf Healer. A BLM can kill a Healer easy, it just takes the right critical strikes to do it (this was way before any kind of toning down on critical strikes as well). So yeah, you can survive if you play it smart, but if you don't know what you're doing, even with all the protective spells up he can make short work of you especially if he doesn't miss his critical strikes all that often. Marc
They'll (dwarves) have 900+hp as a base most likely but their mana may be too low. My dwarf cleric had a base hp about 950 and a base mana about 1050, I assume a healer would be about the same , more than enough. Especially if you choose certain religions.
