The Wayward Knight
Nerds raging on? That's... cute. I think I accurately defined exactly why I don't like this song and others like it. Also, I go to community college, not Harvard, Lailanni, and I sparked your indignant response deliberately because I'm writing a paper on my opinion about rap music versus other's opinions about rap music, and how they conflict with my own. Sorry to use you as an experiment, and if I have 'insulted' you, then I apologize, but I needed exactly how you felt in the heat of a situation (as heat as it can get) and if I had said 'Hey, I'm writing a paper' you would have thought out a response and left out some of what you had to say, I'm sure. If I'm wrong about that assumption, don't worry, I don't care. If you do feel insulted, I apologize. Roykagh - looks like she zoomed in on 'Slut' too. (edit) Do I need someone's permission to quote something they wrote in an english paper I'm writing? ... Now that I think about it, there isn't a lot in that post that I can use to fuel my paper... for or against..
'tarako
'You don't need their permission as long as you cite your source correctly. 'To CS: Well, lets just say my highschool music theory teacher restricted me to only 1/16 notes after a piece I wrote with a flute and a piano playing 3 measures of 1/64 notes in the beginning of the piece. It's fun!

Now that I think about it, there isn't a lot in that post that I can use to fuel my paper... for or against.. Are you kidding me? You didn't get her 'heat of the moment response' on how your opinions of rap music conflict. You got her 'heat of the moment response' based on you making comments that seemed dickish and insulting towards her. This goes without mentioning that using the FL forums as a place to conduct 'social experiments' by intentioning inflaming others is, in and of itself, a rather dickish thing to do that really isn't that too dissimilar from trolling. And, for that matter, speaking from a purely academic viewpoint, it's not really necessarily even successful/meaningful. You consider the possibility that she may have 'left out' some of the things she would have normally said if she hadn't been upset, but did you consider the possibility of that she might have 'put in' things she didn't really mean, but said anyways, in the heat of the moment and anger? I'd say the latter is at least as common as the former. Trying to counter-balance in this way really isn't effective, and I would go so far as to call it counter-productive. <=Raargant, rolling his eyes and shaking his head. The Wayward Knight
Like I said, there wasn't much of her response that I could use. Guess I'm just a dick, then, since I'm so dickish. Dickish, dickish.

corpsestomp
Is dickish even a word? Because my auto-spellcheck says no. Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and say that I enjoyed Lailanni's first response, especially since she's a good-looking lady. And there's nothing I like more than when good-looking ladies want to get up and dance, I don't care if it's techno, country, rap or a freaking mosh pit. As long as I don't have to dance with a bunch of dudes, it's all good.
The Wayward Knight
Dickish is latin for 'I don't like you'. And I like techno.
Raargant
Actually, I have a neutral opinion of you, tending towards positive. I just think your earlier comments and behavior in this thread were tending towards dickish.
Raargant
Alright, so I went ahead and listened to the Crank Dat song. With absolute respect to anyone and everyone who likes it...the song is uninspired and mediocre at best. The beats are average, but the lyrics are pure drivel. Dear god, I remember when rap often actually had a message or meaning to it. True, the kid IS 17, but still. Hell. At least I hear Eminem is making a new album. Maybe that can rescue the genre from this current generation of rap artists with absolutely CRAP lyrics. Wow. I cannot get over the fact that this is the number 1 on the billboard music/rap charts, and the lyrics, which should be the heart and essence of rap, are this crappy. Here's my top two favorite http://youtube.com/watch?v=fNPpjleYx7A http://youtube.com/watch?v=LW-mlkYBcLU this stuff has meaning and isn't your normal party music....this is rap

corpsestomp
From now on, we should call this thread: What I Like is Better Than What You Like, as told by the FL forums.
Valsgarde
So what if he's 17? It's not as if he's piecing together anything even mildly difficult to do. Mid tempo 4/4 electronic beat and some keyboard nonsense. Mozart was composing pieces when he was five. Rappers get no credit from me. It's empty, uninspired, socially destructive sub-art that is just corporately rehashed and doesn't even remotely require the slightest bit of musical integrity. Wow. I cannot get over the fact that this is the number 1 on the billboard music/rap charts' date=' and the lyrics, which should be the heart and essence of rap, are this crappy.[/quote'] Think of how stupid the average human being is. Twinblades713
At least I hear Eminem is making a new album. Maybe that can rescue the genre from this current generation of rap artists with absolutely CRAP lyrics. I wanna point this out. This man saved rap. I seriously believe he's likely the only artist that has produced a rap song that has much meaning. Agreed, I can get down with the beat of other rap songs just to dance with chicks. But you'll never find me listening to rap other then Eminem. Souljaboy:ooooooooooooooooohhhh.....youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu....ooooooooooooooooohhhh....youuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu ^---- Catchy song for like a second. Then it gets old and irritating IMHO. Assuming you haven't had the chance to listen to Eminem, I wanna put this out there. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d6odzCYFOOQ

brsingr
lose yourself is my favorite, and travis barker rocks soulja boy is big here, and i find immensely annoying. people think they're clever, when they want you, they point at you and yell yoooouuuuuu!!! like no one's ever done it before. and btw, a few other people are making some meaningful songs. perhaps one or two of bubba sparxxx old songs, as well as one called "superman", though i forget the artist, but i agree that eminem dominates it. though he is rather full of rage, after the songs about killing kim he got remarried (custom oaths; I'll stop making songs about killing you if you stop being annoying.) J.Twendrist
Pulled a gun on the ICP guys. Also, do go to youtube and check out Saul Williams and Sage Francis. Can't stress that enough. That is the only recently made rap that I have ever heard that has any redeeming qualities.
