Wizinvis allows us to monitor cheaters.
If they seen you online they wouldn't cheat.

The problem with this thread and what it suggests, even the reasons supporting the suggestions, is inherit in a simple belief.
"I see no IMMS so none must be on"
Vs.
"I see no IMMS but some are ALWAYS watching"
If you assume the 2nd mentality (and it is true 90% of the time your online), then you know you ARE always being watched. There is ALWAYS someone monitoring your actions in game. Watching you as you play, I know the current staff likes to watch pk's and dialogue. Anume, for example, follows many many fights. Malch too, I believe likes to stalk folks as they PK..even uncabaled folks. All of the IMMS I know watch and listen to your dialogue and if your a q-hopeful there is a good chance they follow you for extended periods of time bored to death as you pick berries and farm gyvels. When they arent handling admin tasks the IMMs on this mud spend most of their time watching...be it via varying levels of wiznet or by actually snooping or following a character.
Want to get q-app approved? Want to spice up the RP? Get into a Cabal quicker? Then become the interesting thing on to watch.
Do this even when you "see" no imms, do it 100% of the time. You will find very quickly that you pvp someone and get an odd snicker, or have your diety speaking to you from some hidden place as you ride across the lands.
Honestly I have never had trouble getting a qrace, or having RP interactions. This is more just to bolster new people into staying by seeing a highly active IMM staff. How many times (before you found FL) did you try a mud, only to never see an imm, or anyone willing to walk you through the early pwnings? It happened to me a few times, and is why I left my first mud.
Now in the olden days I can recall Viri-bot, bryntryst, mhaladork, Rotarx (acorns of death), and several other imms constantly visible for all to see, and it gave the environment a real ambient feel. I am not saying monitering for cheaters is wrong, just saying that I feel that supporting more in char actions supercedes the need to moniter mildly/heavily ooc actions, and cheating.
I have yet to see someone who cheated go very far here, because bottom line is skill plays a large part here in FL, so those few that cheat might get a week or two of nice in, but soon enough they are deleting, and rolling something else.
I agree with what Emp said. When you weight out the pros and cons of being visible and invisible, I believe that most will agree that being visible is the better option.
PS. I am not whining about anything, I like the way FL it is at the moment. This is just my own opinion.
Catching cheaters was only one reason as to why it will not be removed. There are several logistical reasons as to why it is not going anywhere -- including the training period for new staff members in which they are not allowed to be visible until their Roleplay, Duties, Description, and other things are being approved. Getting rid of this tool as a method to promote the appearance of a more active staff is the wrong approach to the perceived problem. It would be akin to removing guns from cops to promote the appearance of a more benign force. It is an improper way to tackle such a situation.
As a matter of fact, I often prefer to interact with mortals while invisible; this is due to some of the restrictions that the roleplay of a demon god places upon me. I submit that most of you have interacted with me while not even knowing that I was the culprit. Furthermore, if I am visible, there are immediate assumptions that are made upon the interaction that prevents authentic reactions -- exempli gratia, if Malchaeius is visible while a situation is going down within Val Miran, the assumption is that "the Demon is up to something again". While this is not illogical of an assumption to make, considering that Malchaeius has been the cause of a number of these events, often times I attempt to have a villain other than Malchaeius -- yet unless I am invisible throughout the whole event, the assumption will be to blame the demon.
This is not to mention the times when I must be on the main port to handle a situation and cannot be distracted. Additionally, as Zhokril mentioned, watching quest races/classes or cabal hopefuls. Thus, when the pros and cons are measured, I assure you that the pros in fact outweigh the cons.
I believe it's cause all the imms are voyeurs and enjoy "watching":p
Come on Malch, admit it, ![]()
Exactly right. Its pretty easy to act the model citizen when an IMM is around or RP if you know you are being watched. And then as soon as they think they are "alone", its a semi-OOC comment here, lack of RP there, etc. If I'm watching someone for something like a promotion/application, chances are I'll be judging them heavily on the time they don't know they're being watched just as much as the time when they do. This is the case pretty much across the board, as it goes.
Seeing as most of a character's time is spent not being watched, we need to know they are up to snuff during those times as much as the few times they are watched.
Who is Zhokril?
Actually, I must say that I have seen the Imms visible more often than in the past. I would stop worrying about whether you can see them or not, and instead talk to a passing devout worshiper or squirrel.

I would say yes, except there are things that you players do that cannot be unseen.
2 elves, 1 barrel..
i still have nightmares.
Wizi is very useful and helps keep the game flowing and allows for regulation. While it would be nice if we all played by the rules and did not attempt to exploit bugs and the like to our advantage. But, since such a world cannot exist, it is very necessary. However, I think that in a given week, if an imm is online for say 20 hours total, they should be visible for at least 5-7 of those hours.
