Thinking about quitting...

Not sure if i can keep up with the mentality of people in this game, spent the past 3 1/2 hours trying to get a basic set, got killed once by a warmaster halfway through, then by a tribunal when i had just started killing bigger mobs, then again once again naked by the same tribunal. I cant even manage to get a basic set before dying over and over again. Not a single person has tried to roleplay with me other than the immortals, and i had a stone giant murder me for no good reason...

Just seems like one big pk map, full of angry players. I'm not trying to flame anyone here, just some thoughts.

First off... right now, you're very frustrated. You've had a tough day, it happens to all of us sometimes, and it's entirely understandable. Now, for one, you're playing a class that is easy to take down by someone who knows what they're doing, especially when you aren't terribly experienced and also lacking great eq. Seriously, roll up something more survivable, try that out. Try a mage class if you still want to be offensively minded... you've got scrolls/staves, so you can always keep yourself flying, and prot shield stops bash/bodyslam.

Second, I KNOW that I've RPed with you, so don't say nobody's RPing with you. ;)

this mud is very pk oriented, roleplay dictates (in most cases) how and who you pk. Just because someone is not throwing their life story at your waiting ears is not necessarily an indicator that they are not roleplaying. If a trib is waxing you, try to incite a larger scale resistance, place a bounty, try new tactics. I have been here for years, and by no means do I rape and pillage the pbase, no means at all. But with each death I take, I learn just a little bit more.

Some basics are as follows:

Find reliable sanc, vials ARE NOT reliable.

Find curatives, I can think of at least one item that cures you when you EAT it, not to mention a very powerful quest item consumable.

Find out of the way hiding places, a good hiding spot will save you more than a 31 avg damage weapon.

and the number one thing I can say to you, if you do not think your ready for a fight, or are in an area you do not have 100% down, do not fight, get to a place YOU are comfortable.

Don’t quit now. You’re just frustrated like Pali said, it happens to everyone. When things like that happen just sign off and take a breather, go do something else and get your mind off of it. I’m pretty much new to the game myself. I’ve Been playing over 2 years and I’m pretty much the worse player here. :). The game is too addicting to just leave for good. Trust me I’ve tried. I’ve learned to keep a basic set of eq in lockers when I get killed (it’s a little pricey, but for me it helps) , it sometimes helps out a bit when needing to reequip.

Try up rolling up a survivable class. Paladins and cleric are good starters. For me I figured out that it’s harder for me to play an evil, since I needed to watch out for anyone in my pk. Goods, just need to watch out for evil and occasionally neutrals that want to kill you. Try rolling up an adventure, if you just want to learn the lands and find low level eq. Don’t need to worry about getting killed by other players, just mobs.

Try an Evil cleric. It is the perfect class for you to start learning the equipment.

You are getting frustated by your lack of Knowledge, which is causing your deaths.

That way you can learn all about equipment and how to get it.

Also i advise you to make friends. If you start to try to PK or make everyone angry at your character things can get very lonely at the 50 range.

So advice is:

Evil Drow cleric, follower of Discord (I cannot believe i am saying this....)

Good Elven/Dwarf Cleric.

Good Elven Paladin.

Now that you got the base mechanics of the game, you need to start to learn EQ with a clerical class.

Good aligned characters allow you to join Hope clan, one of the most friendly places on the mud. The Academy is also nice.

Communers are boring for many players because they don't have such a strong finishing move....so you might not die as often...but you also don't kill. I think killing in PK is more motivating than not dying, especially at the beginning stages. :D

Try a ranger, maybe a feral, ogre, or halfling. Feral is the most offensive, whereas halfling is more defensive. You have camo, which is probably better than hide, a LOT of melee power backed by random helpful skills.

You will still die quite a bit, but you'll also experience completely dominating people. You will still need to learn the equipment but aren't as reliant as a full melee. You can take down big mobs, provide food, and can reequip when lots of people are on due to camo. Also easy to rank!

I personally feel that rangers are the easiest class to play.

I just wanna throw this out there for you mino. There's no such thing as courtesy in pk, you don't have to stay if you're getting destroyed and you don't have to spare your opponent if you're pwning them.

And if you're getting pummeled you can try out my method of running. Basically if you're in a place that's like 5 easts and 5 wests you go something like e, e, e, e, w, w, w, e, e, e, w, w, e, e, e, e, e. Until your dirt kick wears off then you quaff a recall (one which you should always have ready to quaff in your inventory). Or if you're certain you can run blinded halfway across the map, then you can do that too. But I feel the first way I suggested is usually quite effective and annoying to the people chasing, in general easier to use.

If anyone disagrees with that way then suggest more advice for minotaur!

Recalling is risky, however, especially for a class that can't easily make itself fly... it cuts your remaining moves in half, as well as (if you've recently been in combat) lagging you for several rounds. If you're fighting within a short distance from your temple, recalling's just a good way of getting yourself killed. I never do it except as a last resort... but then, that's also because I know how to run very well.

whatever formulas for running do suck, but hope you get the general idea. Hard to create new running tactics without them being really stupid or a failure. Anyways to perhaps prevent some deaths, try to "ally" yourself with more powerful characters. Like currently Nexus and Warmaster seem to be doing pretty well, try one of their members. Even one friend can do you lots of good.

I'm lucky to have had the experience w/ my first ninja Erisar....he died like you wouldn't believe it. But back then I was like....I died then two minutes later, I died again and so on.

But thanks to one hellauva illithid necromancer, yea that's right everyone I befriended an illithid necromancer who didn't pick on me for souls! that started w/ the letter Z (I keep on remembering it as zorvakhal, but that was a recent guy, anyways) he after killing people would offer extra, un-needed armor to me that he picked up w/ his zombies. I'm telling you it helps tons having that friend you need, some people will even be your protector in a way like that Crusader around the time Durimar(not sure about name but was a Evil Duergar Cleric outlawed and wanted probably Syndi but not sure) was around.
