Minotaur
After looking at it on paper, bards seem like they would be the strongst class in the game with a smart race/equipment choice. I know it sounds crazy but thats what it looks like.
Guest emp_newb
They are more defensive than dks while dual wielding, have nice buffs, can steal, can hide, they can hit most vulns easily, their throw is still uber. Four seasons is useful. A nice set of skills really. But it is still a damn bard. Noone will ever be scared of bards, not even your bards HB
Deykari
I was scared of Helmsley with Wymsicant. He hurt me more than Kronit did at times.. Dey

Guest emp_newb
there is nothing that scares me less than an elf or avian bard. you can by a mercenary and bashlock them pre 30. They do not get enhanced damage til 35. And their skill set is more meant to compliment a group of adventurers, not to buff themselves up to monstrous levels. Guest emp_newb
yea, thats another big one, is how do you find a feasable rp reason to be a happy, long lived elven bard, who drinks, paints, and plays the lyre, and also runs around killing people

My money is on the bard over any warrior. On top of that, how many classes bash? not to mention they can use scrolls and staves, which im a total noob and i can think of a few reasons that matters at 30. (white aura)Bard flies in (white aura)certain golem flies in (white aura)certain knight flies in bash bard? ... yea right, you'd have to be crazy

I had a halfling ranger, run over my minotaur the other day for no damned good reason. I told the immortals and they said, "Well, everyone exept maybe healers can get away with it." Deykari
You played in the time in one of my first pinned chars, Velyhn. Doubt you'll remember him as we had little interaction but I remember visiting Avalon for the first time with you, and you told some Herald to get back to his bookshop or something. Grumpy
While sounding good on paper, all the bards I've fought up until now has been push-overs. Yeah steal is annoying, but they are only annoying at best. They lack blind fighting, which puts them at a disadvantage over other melees, also they lack a way to lag like bash so that makes them lose the initiative against other melees. They are supposed to do alright against spell casters, but uppercut seriously has a low chance of landing and has long lag, so you'd be dead more often than not if you rely on it. I miss the old bards.

I miss the old bards. they dont have bash, but they have trip. Also they have hide and invis i dont see any rogues or ninjas with bash. None of the races that can be bards should really be bashing anyway. melee vs. bard advantages most melees advantages: better weapon selection more defenses blind fighting bash type lag ability higher strength for bigger weapons counter bard advantages: one of the better dual wielding defenses hide/invis (able to pick their fights easier) throw and fired weapons ( no other class has this kind of lag free vuln power) can buff their pets (great for cabaled) have access to both staffs and scrolls ( thats a big deal for a melee intensive class.) can steal have access to spells such as word of recall and four seasons (song) brawling flight area of effect abilities to take people out of camo cure serious ( something almost all melees lack is a reliable healing spell.) It's give and take. Bard sounds alot more survivable to me. Clerics dont have bash or trip and they do just fine, seeing as they are the most played class in the game. TheNewGuy
About flight... I wouldn't call "flight of the condor" flight. Won't stop tripping, and only works for one room.

Won't stop tripping' date=' and only works for one room.[/quote'] they have access to many staffs/scrolls and potions for flight, and now that i think about it, they also have access to one of the best scrolls in the game against arrows, as well as MUCH more reliable forms of sanctuary. Grumpy
Minotaur, if you think they are so good then by all means roll one up. I still stand by my opinion that they suck. survivable melee = ranger ranger >> bard

Mattamue
Blind fighting is a serious weakness for a bard. Lack of the skill is only part of it. Every offensive song requires you to hold an instrument at some point - which isn't going to be possible against any class that can perform an incurable blind like dirt, flamestrike, firestorm, or just having a burning weapon. No one could convince me that a bard of equal skill, equipment, situation, and whatever else would ever destroy a warrior, ranger, thief, ninja, dark knight, paladin, berserker, monk, or blademaster. Don't for a second think that means I think killing the bard would be easy either. The casters.. I'm torn on. What I've seen of uppercut isn't reliable but it isn't unreliable either. The problem is that everyone is ready for it and there's no way to keep someone in the fight.
Minotaur
i think im going to write the best app i can come up with and turn a human bard into an undead evil chaotic bard. MUAHAHA. Put my writing skills to the test. There are plenty of evil people out there that have limited skills like hackers for example. Cant go around bullying people for money but use thier computer skills for evil... i could see an evil bard being very reasonable if roleplayed well enough.
