What makes them powerful? Are you serious? Melee + Lagging, Aff spells, Mals... neat forms to make people want to weep even more than they already are from the previously listed skills.
Human/Half-elf special traits
Have you even played one?
Meelee + Lagging, so like a warrior, zerk, dk, etc. Aff spells. Mmk. One that I consider of minor use. Mals? A few, some of which more of a curse then a blessing (ie, I'd personally prefer more reliable skills). Neat forms, have their uses. Only really one combat orientated one, which is unreliable. I always hear people talking about how powerful/overpowered vamps are. Many of these people haven't even given it a go themself. I will commend them if they do and excel. How often do you see a wicked vamp? About 10% as much as you see a wicked . I have played three or more, and it certainly isn't the cakewalk people make it out to be. Any vampire that has really torn it up, I assure you, probably had powers and abilities above an uncabaled regular vamp.
So Krins, yes, I am serious. There is only one spell of theirs I consider extra special, and even it seems buggy at times. With the minor benefits they gain, they have the most huge and glaring weaknesses in the game, period.
As an aside, its a rather taboo subject, if you wish to discuss further, feel free to PM me.

Really? Seems to me like most people tend to be pretty wicked. People always use the argument that it is strong players that go for vamps, but that theory doesn't hold up if you look at the other qclasses/races, which do not always do well.
And "one combat form which is unreliable"?. It has perhaps the best lagging skill in the game (read: best, not most reliable), very good offense, while at the same time being able to cause mals, not to mention the very helpful resistances and boons they gain which we can't go into here.
You don't have to take my word for it. History alone has shown that vampires are strong. If the class feels weak to you, I suggest on your next vamp you try out different tactics and re-evaluate how your different forms and skills can work together. If you would like some advice feel free to send me a PM.
Most problems undead + vamps have is due to wrong choice of eq.
If you play an ogre, you will cover your vuln (as best as you can), if you play a feral, you should do the same, there's no reason undead/vamps should not.
Vamps can be extremely powerful, but they are very hard to play correctly.
Undead can be extremely powerful, but most classes are not that easy to play as undead as they are as human or another race without huge vulns.
But enough of the undead/vamp discussion, this thread should be about humans and halfelves...
Undead Cleric ftw.
But yeah humans/h-elves are fine imho. They just arn't "special" enough for some people.
I love picking half elves. I just rarely play classes that I would be a half elf. Honestly if i could be a half elf mage. I would totally be all over that.
Agreed. Half elves should be all classes that their aligns allow them to be. Also, we should have half drow, and they evil, and have the exact some bonuses as half elves, and then half elves could just be able to be all classes. And mayyybe give half elves one more point of int.
Half-elves were banned from the arcane by the elves, who believed their natural curiosity would allow them to become better than the elves them selves. The humans envious of the graceful half-elves quickly followed suit, now a half-elf has to prove himself far beyond either of these two races to join any of the guilds of magic, and then only the psions will speak to them.
I think its time for a revolution.

My vamps tend to do just fine. I can tell you however that it isn't a cakewalk. Some of your vulns Esh cat be covered with EQ
I've seen many sucky vamps, they usually end up deleted before they get far. I don't usually have many issues against any of the vamps I fight. Once you know what you are doing they aren't very scary at all. The only vamp that has absolutely walked me was Seium.
Yes, they can be powerful, but try fighting someone who is equally equipped, equally prepared and with equal skill. You'll soon find yourself in deep ****.
Yeah, mals, its the only way you can 'cast' those mals so to speak. There are also HUGE glaring weaknesses with being in a form. It wasn't lag I was talking about being unreliable (even though lag in general is, which is how it should be, and it shouldn't be all that is required to win a fight) I am talking about the other abilities. I can tell you, as a vamp, if you are blind and your victim isn't (and they are a meelee type) you are going to have an uphill battle.
You got a couple of vamps under your belt Calron? I will tell you now, that if it was a good vamp, it was a very knowledgeable player. It is a prerequisite to not getting absolutely raped.
Opps. Back on topic, sorry Eshaine :|
I agree with Toten to an extent.
Vamps aren't the "beasts" people make them out to be. They have some insane vulns. However, they also don't take much getting used to.
The two most recent vamps(at 50) were god awful when they first began. It was funny watching them make these newbie mistakes. It wasn't long before they got the hang of it and are doing pretty decent. They will continue to improve and begin to kick that much more butt.
The only issue is their powerspike is limited in that at their peak they will still get absolutely destroyed by warriors/rangers/clerics(thanks Behrens) that know what they are doing. I always found that to be very annoying.
Vamps also have the easiest time re-equipping over any other class.
Alright, back on topic. ![]()

That's a cool take as to why they aren't able to be...just not a very logical one... Unless you keep a half-elf caged her/his whole life...they are going to be whatever they want to be...it is impossible to keep an entire race from being able to learn something...all the goods in Aabahran don't want those Illithid's becoming masters of Necromancy...I don't see them being stopped anytime soon.
Actually...if you let the half-elf have another point of int and open them up to thief, bard, blademaster, paladin, ranger, ninja, and cleric(or Invokers and Battlemages) having to be good/neutral align then, offer half-drow with a point in dex instead of int and let them be thief, bard, blademaster, dark-knight, ranger, ninja, and cleric(or Invokers and Battlemages) having to be evil/neutral align...that would be nice...
I left out monk...cause that could go either way for me...but throw that in there too...if ya want. "shrug"
I still do not see why half elves cannot be clerics. I mean they can be paladins can't they?
