Assassinate 1.0
I could be mistaken, as in Viri wrote the study code (or cut it in) before the mud was opened, but I believe it was after the start.
Please understand a number of us moved here from our origins where study did not exist. I could be remembering those times.
I rolled a ninja to test them out early 1.0, they definitely had to study, although I believe there were some changes from that time, basically moving it to a level 42-43? skill. I like the idea of changing some of the mechanics involving lag, mainly the idea of being able to use perhaps a limited array of skills, maybe even a spell) if lagged. Mainly the lag from charge would be what I would consider this for, bash/bodyslam I think could remain the same as it is prevented by prot shield. However, if you changed it that prot shield either reduced or removed the lag from charge, that would be a different story.
The change to assassinate was the dependance upon hitroll.
V-goth said a while ago this change was going in, but then it never happened. As he described it, if I remember correctly, is that it would just get progressively harder to hit a bash with each consecutive one landed. That would work for me. Taking someone down from full health lag-locked, especially when you can barely hit them, is bs.
I'd very much like to see something done for level 50's that aren't part of a clan/cabal.
I always feel like I have to be in a cabal to even begin to be competitive PK wise and have thus began making characters with RP geared to a cabal, not making characters with anything truly interesting RP wise.
Maybe the answer doesn't lie towards giving un-caballed 50's an extra skill set, but not allowing caballed characters to use their cabal skills on un-caballed players? I know that sounds ridiculous....
I don't see why we can't offer an extra skill or two to char's that are un-cabaled... For instance, the Guildmaster has noted their unwavering focus toward mastering all they can within their guild and thus, has decided to share a secret or two that he has learned along the way, something only for those truly devoted to their guild.
Why not have some non-caballed only equipment? Skills would be fine, but alone they still wouldn't match the PK ability given by a cabal so we'd still have the same problem now but to a lesser degree. If I were to do it, I'd add in the equipment to make up for cabal life insurance (not sure if this is staying), and cabal equipment. To make up for cabal PK skills I'd make another guild master hidden somewhere who for finishing hard quests (and a wait time between them) would teach certain skills to those not in a cabal. While these skills wouldn't be as good as the cabal ones, that and the equipment would make it closer.
How about we give non-caballed people their own cabal that comes with no creed, no loyalty to each other, and no enemies to fight but still skills and eq just because?
Come on people. It is not that hard to be uncaballed. All my chars lately that have sucked have sucked because I tried to fit them into a cabal... I much prefer being uncaballed.
...that's what we're working towards kind of. It's to help people who want to play a rogue character, or just don't want to be in a cabal. Yes an uncaballed person isn't going to automatically die to a caballed but it is a more uphill battle especially at higher ranks in the cabal. How many times have you fought someone and won until they got that next rank and then had they tore you a new one? We want to make it so that people who aren't in a cabal don't have such different in power.
Yes, a cabaled person should have benefits. But cabals aren't all about power, they're meant to be an extension of your RP, not just another weapon in PK. So I don't see any harm in beefing up an uncabaled somewhat.
Another possibility for dealing with lag would just be to up the chance of evading a bash or bodyslam. I think it should be very unlikely to hit more than 4 bashes in a row if your AC is less than -400.
When you are being bashed at least (usually?) once a round (for up to four? five? rounds a bash--as a non-paladin), thoses chances are strongly in favor of the necro.
As Maerothir I have over 500 ac most of the time. Fighing Kurvikhel is a nightmare lol. Just those damned enlarged giant mob bashes that do it.
I can completley deal with that damage output, just not the fact I can
do nothing for 4-8 rounds at a time
I'm too lazy to read every post, but I do not think that there should be any no-pk rooms at all. What I do think is a good idea would be Extended Loot Wait Rooms. Sure, someone can come kill you, or assassinate you, but the wait on looting would be longer in this room, maybe not available at all. And I'm not talking make them in the commons so people can run in, I'm talking rooms like guildhalls and clanhalls that you can't enter with blood on you. That would open wide the opportunities for rp.
