Minotaur
do storm giants take extra damage from wooden staffs, or can they just not touch them?
Twinblades713
Both. Ouch, splinters! What babies....
Aeva
i BELIEVE they simply cannot use stuff, just how drow cannot touch mithril stuffs. i dont think its an actual vuln. anyone? im not entirely sure.
songofsixpence
they take extra damage in the same way that drows do. so physical damage from a wood item doesn't affect them more. only if it's thrown at them.

corpsestomp
I would assume both. And storm do take extra damage from wooden weapons, but the fact that they are mundane is offset by their resistance.

Aeva
damage type is generally mundane for wood, ie slash (mundane) instead of life drain (magic)
Minotaur
oh, ok so the fact that they are resistant to physical because they are a giant offsets the fact that wood damage is physical, which is their vuln. Makes sense.
KRins
I heard vulns supercede resistances.
TheNewGuy
A wooden staff does NOT make wooden damage. Throwing wooden cards/daggers/shurikens do. I think throwing a wooden staff will, too, but I am not 100% sure.
Mister E
The storm giant resistance to physical means even if the enemy is using a wood weapon, it will do less damage than a magical one of the same type/avdam. Nothing is offset since the vuln cant be hit with melee strikes. As for a ranger throwing a wooden staff, I would wager that would hit the vuln, but I am not exactly certain. English lad
Storm giants don't take extra damage off wooden weapons no. The thing to remember is that Vulns are linked to the Damage noun, not the anything else to do with the weapon - at least as far as normal combat goes. For example a firey dagger does damage noun Flaming_bite - so you get XXX's flaming_bite XXXs you. This is fire damage - so a feral would take extra damage from it. Example of a storm giant's Vuln A Wooden Staff does damage noun Beating - so you get XXX's beats XXXs you. The Weapon name is wooden - and the weapon material is wood, but the damage noun is beating - so if you were going to take extra damage from this you would need to be Vuln to Beating. For a weapon to hit a Storm giants vuln in normal combat it would need to have a Vuln Noun of something link Wood, or Oak etc... To my knowledge theres nothing with a Wood Noun, although it would be funny XXX's Wood does UNSPEAKABLE things to you!! Thrown damage is however totally different. Thrown damage works on the material type of whats being thrown, not the damage noun - so a wooden object being thrown would hit the vuln. Hope that all makes sense. Malchaeius
To simplify: - The objects material is not what determines whether it hits a vulnerability in combat. However, it does determine whether or not that race can pick up said weapon/object. - Flaming bite does fire damage because the code sticks that noun with the fire damage flag, else it could very well do slash damage. - Throw takes into account the material when assessing the damage. So a wooden thrown object would do vulnerability strength damage to a storm giant. - Vulnerabilities will always supercede resistance - for example: Dwarves are resistant to magic, but vulnerable to drowning (which is a type of magical attack). The vulnerability to water supercedes the resistance to magic, and vulnerable damage is assessed. Hope that helps.
mya
Just to remenber that Storm giants are still vulnerable to Mental. So a mental weapon will still do more damage. Also dont think that Vulnerability weapons are the ends all. For example a Avian and the Air Lance. Cool, my DK just got this Powerfull Air Lance, and i will be totaly eating this Avian Invocker with it. Wrong you just decided to use one two handed vulnerability weapon, over two high average non vulnerability weapons. So instead of dealing double damage per round from using two weapons, you are now using a single weapon x the vulnerability multiplier. Sometimes you have to think if going vulnerability is actual worth it. And not charge a Zerk dualing two whips just because he know not how to defend them. English lad
I guess Avian Invoker's do have that advantage when it comes to hitting their Vuln through Melee damage.
