'So. The choir I'm in was all set to go to India but we couldn't get solid answers from our contacts in India and as a result our trip there was canceled. Then after winter break we decided to still have a tour somewhere and the vote was between california and london. London won by a landslide. It will cost a little under $1k plus spending money and getting a passport, ect. We walked into rehearsal today and had by the end of class to commit or not, lol, because there was a ticket fair or something and we got roundtrip no stop tickets to london for $620, I am told this is a good deal. So yeah. From May 12-19 I'll be in london. Any suggestions as to what to do there? I think we get 3 free days besides concerts. It's going to be awesome. I have to start selling candy bars now to earn the cash to go. :P

'Nice! thats awesome. Thanks guys. What all is there to do in london besides seeing the tourist sites? advice? This was sprung on us last minute and even though we have a few months' date=' it isnt that long.[/quote']

Honestly? Apart from the obvious touristy things, I wouldn’t know. English Lad might be able to help you out with that. Every time I’ve been in London I’ve just been in pubs and the like. I don’t even know what/where the tourist places are, aside from the REALLY obvious like the palace. Evangelion would be able to help you out more than I, and he was in England for just a few days. :D

Would be great if we could get a few people together, though I believe English Lad and I are the only people in England who play here. ;)

1) The Eye - Great experience, great view of the city, beautiful vantage point.

2) SoHo - London's red light district. You will see things there you will never see again in your lifetime, and half of them you'll wish you hadn't seen. Go.

3) Tiger Tiger - An awesome night club on what constitutes pretty much the main walk of London.

4) Piccadilly Circus - Again, lots of stuff to see. Hopefully you'll have a tour guide that can point it all out.

5) Wembley Stadium - This actually opened a few days after I left England for France, with a concert in honor of (I believe) the ten year anniversary of Diana's death. Don't know if there will be anything actually going on, but the Stadium is pretty cool looking even from the outside, and that part of town is nice in general. Lots of good pubs, including one at which I knocked over an old man's beer.

6) Herod's - The biggest and bestest department store in the world. Go expecting to spend plenty of money, on really cool stuff.

My only other suggestion is do some very serious research on the exchange rate. Find out, in whatever manner suits you, what average dollar-to-pound exchange is, and then watch the market. If the rate falls below (or above, depending on how you look at it) average, exchange some money then, if you can afford to. I lost a LOT of money on the exchange rate, and wish I had thought to do this before I went.

If you've got two free days in a row, I strongly advise you to get a group of your friends together, book a ticket on the Eurostar, and go to Paris for a day. It's about a two hour train ride, and will be a completely different experience than London.

I wish I could have spent more time in both places (England and France), but I would definitely sacrifice ten days in England, for five days in England and five days in France. Especially as a college student, because it gave me a glimpse of either locale that I could consider studying abroad in.

That could only have been said by someone who has little experience with the red light district in any asian country ;)

I've been to London twice and absolutely loved it. If you've never been, do the touristy stuff. Go see Big Ben, go see the Tower of London, the Eye of London, the London Bridge... all that jazz. They're all awesome and well worth seeing.

Do you know what hotel in London you'll be staying at, or atleast the closest tube station to it?

There are a couple of really cool pubs on Fleet Street -- there's a place Deykari and I found that has pool tables and a beer elevator (you can basically write down what you want and send the beer elevator down to the bar on the floor below, and in two or three minutes later, beer magically appears in the beer elevator).

Go to Ye Olde Cock Tavern, just to say you've been there. It's also on Fleet Street. They have Staropramen. Drink that. It's the greatest beer (atleast greatest Pilsner) ever.

If you're into War History, go check out the RAF's Church on Fleet Street (just uphill from the Fleet Street tube station). It's got unrepaired bomb damage from the Germans in WW2. It's pretty amazing. I know I seem like I'm in love with Fleet Street, so I'll get off of that binge.

There's another museum well worth going to -- the Imperial War Museum mear Elephant & Castle and Lambeth North. If you're into War History at all, go there. It's fantastic. It's the best military history museum I've ever been to. Here's their website: http://london.iwm.org.uk/

The Natural History Museum rules too, although it looks like they don't have much of a budget.. as a lot of their displays are a bit shabby.

I'm not sure which night it is, but there's a pub called The Swan a couple blocks of the Lancaster gate tube station in Bayswater that has a guy (the owner of the pub, actually) who sings Rat Pack songs and he's awesome. Well worth seeing if you're into that kind of music.

There's also a place south of Picadilly Circus called the Texas Embassy. I know what you're thinking. It's not really an Embassy... lol. It's a restaurant. They've got awesome Texas/Mexican food, and this is coming from a guy who has lived in Texas all of his life. It's not on the menu, but order a Lone Star. The Texas Embassy is one of the only places you can get Lone Star beer outside Texas. If you order a Lone Star, they'll know you're a real G.
