One Way Up
I recently downloaded some music file thing from what I thought was my friend at the time, and all of a sudden I got a ton of "Your ststem is infected with " messages. Problem is, this computer is old(like, around 10 years), and I really don't want to sink 50 bucks into a spyware killer when I plan on getting a new computer fairly soon. But until then......Is there any kind of FREE spyware killer(not just a scanner) out there, or should I even be worried? Not really savvy when it comes to this stuff. Deykari
The perfect combo of three applications: AVG Free Edition - Free Virus Scanner & Killer Ad-aware - Free Spyware scanner/killer Spyboy Search & Destroy - Similar to the above. If you've already got a good virus scanner then stick with the bottom two. Make sure you get both, because sometimes one misses what the other doesn't - they make a great combo. One Way Up
I downloaded them, but they keep telling me that there are too many infected files, and that to fix it, I will need to register with them. So...it looks like I'm going to have to buy something after all. Any suggestions? I was thinking AVG...

You shouldn't have to do anything.
spiegel06
Here is one that I like a bit more than the ones already listed and I know it is free. http://www.superantispyware.com/ I use this one more than I use the others.

I got the free versions; they are just telling me that it won't do. I downloaded Superantispyware and it's scanning now. Hopefully, this will do the trick. I'm getting sick of the little security alert baloons that are popping up on my toolbar, as well as the random "You need protection now!" messages that cover the whole screen. One Way Up
Thanks, speigel. That Superantispy thing seems to have cleared it up.
spiegel06
well you are welcome. It seems like you had what I had before and searched on google and they said that was the one to use and keep that program ever since and that as about a year ago.
