Cephirus
it may simply be your BIOS. Have you switched your boot sequence to eliminate one or the other drives?
brsingr
actually, when i'm in the bios, it sees both drives as one, if you unplug one of them, It says there is no drive connected. I should find a technical forum, man...

BigMac
Explain exactly what you mean by "hot swap." If you're planning on unplugging and re-plugging an ATA (IDE) or SATA device while the machine is powered up, don't do it. ATA isn't hot-swappable at all. SATA is supposed to be, but the implementation of it isn't really that great and you'd probably end up doing damage to the systemboard. Set your CD drive to master and the XBOX HDD to slave with the jumpers on it. That should work.
Mattamue
The hdd that you're imaging is sata? Did they even make xbox1s non-eide?
brsingr
It's ATA, and it is swappable, to put the xbox HDD in a computer, you MUST swap it, unless you know the password, as an xbox in retail mode locks the HDD upon shutting off, so you must boot it, ensure it's unlocked, hotswap, and install I resolved the problem, though
