guild wars community is much more mature than WoW is. also, i wouldnt classify it as a single player game, but more of a co-op/multiplayer adventure/rpg with the ability to pvp. although i guess some people view it as a pvp game with an adventure side thrown on. depends on your cup of tea. the worlds are much more fun to explore than WoW is, and the story much more interesting, imo.

pvp in WoW doesnt even compare to guild wars. i'd compare the pvp in guild wars to being closer to that of the mud. much more fast paced and skill oriented. most skills have effects that last in the seconds, which gears the combat to a faster pace where split second timing is paramount. good position and being able to chase are key, and speed boost skills have an actual important use in pvp, instead of just used as a travel form. everyone has the same max hp and armor and stats (unlike WoW, where you have to spend weeks farming for high end eq), so it comes down to strategy and skill and knowing your class. no pigeon holing of classes either!

Guild wars public chat in the RA areas is so foul that even I found myself turning it off.

The behavior of people overall in the game was so rude my wife quit playing. She didnt take well to being insulted all the time.

Not to mention it is also a game where you can buy all the skills in an online store rather than earn.

Just imho from playing the game.

The WoW community, from my experience has been quite nice, most people have been friendly with the ocasional *** (just like any game imho)

but to each thier own.

I have Guild Wars. It's okay. But, it is a very good alternative to WoW. It's free, and it's not totally dependent on grinding. Instead, it's very dependent on doing quests. What I didn't like about it was the non-Diablo scheme of getting armor/weapons, and how it got exponentially harder while you only got marginally better. It's challenging for sure though.

RA is the equivalent of barrens chat from WoW, so that might of jaded your view. also, as the name implies, to get the most out of the game, you really need to be in a guild. the kids spamming RA chat aren't the majority, they just happen to be the most vocal. getting into a guild and interacting with both your guild and other guilds is where you find your quality players. i've had many great experiences.

as far as unlocking skills in a store, its not that big of a deal. as i said in my other post, many people play solely for the pvp side of the game, which requires access to many of the several hundred skills in the game. the most efficient system for unlocking skills is through the pve side of things. this puts the pvp players at a bit of a disadvantage, and allowing them to spend 10 dollars to unlock 300 skills is a good compromise, particularly when you consider there are no monthly fees. as another note, i play both sides of the game, and had every skill for every class unlocked, just by enjoying the pve side (prior to GW:EN, anyways).

the pvp in guild wars is really far superior to any other mmo with pvp, and i'd rate it close to mud pvp as far as quick paced, adrenaline inducing combat goes. unlike WoW, where every class is pigeon-holed into a specific role, guild wars has hundreds of skills, with infinite combos of classes/skills/equipment/stats. the best part is, anything can be a viable build, if you have your strategy down. want to be a warrior using a combination of axe skills and defensive earth magic? go for it. a ranger who gives up bows in favor of melee necromatic magic? a solid choice. i've even seen a couple elementalists who can charge into melee with a sword while throwing down their signature fire magic, a capable build if you know how to play it. i made a character once who could vanish around like a ninja, fight with daggers, and had a raven who'd fly into combat with him. if you can think it up, you can play it.

theres also quite a few guilds devoted solely to roleplaying, if thats your cup of tea. they'll usually meet in one of the international districts, and move into an outer instance. i've never really gotten into that, though i've watch some of them interact briefly. the ones i've seen arent half bad.

you mentioned your wife playing. with the hero system, you can each build a party of four (your personal character and 3 hero characters which you can completely customize and control yourself), leaving you with a party of 8. this is more than capable of finishing the pve side of the game, and you dont even have to interact with anyone if you don't want to. would give you a better introduction to the game, let you play at your own pace without worrying about some kid getting into your business, and you'd be bound to find a guild or a group of players you'd be comfortable playing pvp or further pve with.

As inscribe stated, when I played over christmas it was a good game. I like the environment side where I can go off and explore on my own. I also like doing quest. I loved the interaction from the co-op missions with other people that was really cool. Most people have been kind to me, the only jerks I have met were on the pvp side of the game. People were so into winning that they would all have the same builds and say certain key word phrases. Me being a "newb" didnt know what they were talking about and decided to pk in my own way in which I would get yelled at *shrug*. But for the most part people were really nice and helped me out. If I do buy the game and play I'll be sure to make something other than a ranger/warrior man was that a bad combo...:P

The leveling time per lvl stays pretty consistant.

It seems to slow down in the late 30's as the terrain gets larger and you dont have a mount yet.

I always would look at the atlas on the game website, and move into areas I havent done yet, grab every quest I could that is a gather or kill count quest in that zone grind them out turn them all in and lvl.

Man you guys, you should all tranfer to duskwood (or I could transfer to another server if your all on it) and form a horde clan

LOL whipped?

My wife; plays mmorpg games (which means she doesnt get envious of time I spend playing them), enjoys kung-fu and action movies, LOVES anime, likes tatoos (has several), dreams of owning a Viper (the car heh), works on cars, likes to go out on the town, is hot, and is the most loyal woman I have ever known.

I resent being called whipped.

Call me....happily whipped, gladly whipped, whipped by choice? ;)

Whipped is Whipped, find me a man who has a good thing going and tell me he isn't whipped in some facet or another.

Find me a man who is unhappy in his relationship and then you will find the NON Whipped Mo Fo..
