mya
I always vote. Its the prime way to raise the Player base numbers. And ours are a bit low. And a dedicated player should vote or he will soon find himself playing alone. As life brings change, and with change people move on to other things. The problem i see is that just getting the TOP10 is not enough. In my view getting new players by the TMS involves certain steps. -Player is aware of the mud on the TOP10 (or TOP20). -Player find the mud description interesting and presses the link to the FL website. -Player finds the website interesting and the mud description relevant to his interests. -Player connects to the mud to check it out. - Player is hooked and play. In my view we are a bad in 3 steps: - Giving visibility to the Mud by achieving TOP10 status. (This is Players department and we are not doing enuff. But the more players we have the easier it becomes.) - Convincing the player to connect to the MUD via WEbsite. In my opinion our website cannot compete with other muds websites. - Creating enough buzz for the NEW player that connects to the Mud. This can be achived by having more newbies around asking newbie stuff in newbie channel and a bigger who list. The summer vacations are a few months away, if we could get to the TOP10 and revamp the Website perhaps we could generate enough momento to expand the playerbase. For example i player Wotmud before FL, and almost no one voted, and their website was nice for a mud. But they noticed that they where losing players and decided to do a revamp. They convinced the players to vote and revamped the website to a professional look (one of their imms works on this field), and now they managed to increase they player base to 100 a night. 'tarako
'So. question. Im on a college campus. There are multiple libraries and buildings with computer labs. I have little homework tonight, so i do not have a problem with spending an hour or so walking around, logging on, and voting from as many computers as possible. My question is. Will that work? I do not know what they judge the voting off of.
Mattamue
Re: 'tarako Depending on how their network is setup you might have a unique ip to vote with on each pc. Even then they're going to be similar enough that the host of TMS is going to see a lot of votes from the same place. So, be careful about over-doing the voting from campus, Tarako. It might bring more trouble than good if FL gets 50 votes from a common source. I bring it up because we might already have a bit of a reputation because of the voting prompt that use to run on the forums. It was okay by the rules then, but they changed them just to disallow it. Guest emp_newb
just go to different buildings, and use your wireless to connect to different wireless servers, each building should have it's own IP. I am pretty sure votes are counted by regulating IP. So if you just check your ipconfig and see a different IP, then by all means vote to your hearts content Mr. DeSalvo. EDIT: Alot of the top muds require you to vote before you can log in, or give you rewards based on your votes.
Malchaeius
As to the website, we -are- working on a new version. However, no one on our staff is exactly a guru with web design. When we unveil the newer website, if you feel that you can make a better design, feel free to email me your template.

Deykari
I can’t check now because it's blocked at work, but I noticed that very shortly after the reset, StockMUD had a VERY high vote count that was way way way above the MUDs that usually sit at top (Aardwolf, Acheaa, etc. – all of which had about 50 votes each). Still like that? It was very strange. Dey

Lytholm
EDIT: Alot of the top muds require you to vote before you can log in' date=' or give you rewards based on your votes.[/quote'] Virigoth did do something like this once - it took less than a week IIRC for members of the pbase to get uppity about it and start sending emails and causing trouble with TMS etc. During the time he did it - we were very high on the list though. Well done to everyone though - glad to see I was right and we can get ourselves up there if we put in a concerted effort. Lytholm.
Calron
I'm going to write a program that people can choose individually to download that will vote for you automatically. I know that in my case I simply forget to vote a lot of the time, so I think it should help our standing a fair amount. We also don't have to worry about breaking any rules, because it would be voluntary, obviously, to download and run.
'tarako
'Sounds good. I found out a lot of library computers share ip addresses, but individual computer rooms, like for my programming class, each have a separate one.
