The Professor
just thought I would ask this......so, if you could narrow it down to 10, hard I know, of your favorite films of all time; what would they be? We are talking about films that moved you, had some profound affect, caused some great epiphany..........or..........you just enjoyed watching every minute of it. in no paticular order Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind = it proposes an idea that given no recollection of past events, if there was a strong bond between you and someone/thing/where else, you would ultimately come to the same conclusions and make the same mistakes to put yourself back in the same situation Whatever happened to baby Jane = was very influencing on the mind of a child, really made me think about sibiling rivalry for the first time Momento = such a strange concept, made me think about the true nature of a person. Would a person be good if you take away the fear of consequence? Do people do what is right, for the sake of it being right, or so they do not get punished? Quills = darkly poetic, a tale reminiscent of one of Shakespeares tragedies The Hours = drepressing and moving, really makes you evaluate how precious the people in your life are....even if things seem to be trivial.....life is a precious gift as well as the loved ones in it Clockwork Orange = a dark comedy for those with a strange since of humor......very profound, not only does it propose questions about psychiatric procedures, what is and is not ethical but makes you realize that there are people in the world like them Rocky Horror Picture Show = one of a kind.....it actually helped me better accept people no matter how different they are from me Fight Club = made me question my own sanity....ever do something you do not remember doing, find something where you did not place it? "So what did you see at the movies last night?" "I did not go to the movies....." "What did you do?" "I do not remember......" sometime later...."Why is my tank on empty......I just filled it up yesterday......boggles....... I Heart Huckabees = gained my interest in existential and metaphysical poetry Who's afraid of Virgina Wolf = another influencing movie that made me question reality.....what is real.....we only percieve the world around us based on our senses and what we are told....what would my reality be like if I was never able to see? hear? What if everything I knew was the product of mis-information....what is real.....what is truth.....when it changes for everyone......? aside from FL, watching movies is a past time affair that I get to indulge in with my friends, from time to time. a-guitarist
Close to the order I'd put them in. Requires too much thought, really. Zulu - Okay, gonna make myself sound like a total loser... which won't be a change... but this movie is special to me for a number of reasons. First, it freaking rocks. Second, it was the first movie were I saw a boob. Seriously, when you're six it's amazing what seeing a bouncing, nubian breast will do to your sexuality. Third, it's a true story. Fourth, that last stand is just ... wow. Conan the Barbarian - "to crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women." Gataca - Man, when you're told you've got problems that will only get worse with time, or at best stay where they are now for the rest of your life, this movie makes you feel like you can make it. It is also one of the most boring movies you'll ever watch. I just can't not finish it if I start it or come into the middle of it. Ever After - Taught me that no matter how much you may think you love someone, or that they may tell you that they love you in return... something things just will never be worth doing twice in a row. This is one of those said things. I actually hated this movie. And still do. I'd rather watch anime than this. I don't care how much I may love any other girl, or she me, I will not watch this movie. It is dead to me. Anime, guys. Anime. Event Horizon - I soil myself every time Professor Grant comes out of the burning oil fire thing, but man, I can't stop watching. Some amazingly graphic stuff that you don't expect pops out on screen and just makes you go, "...yikes..." Ravenous - This movie was just plain awesome. I bought it for five bucks at best buy when they had the cheap movie section. I saw part of it on HBO years before, and was totally blown away. Scary. The Hudsucker Proxy - You know, for kids! *turns it 180 degrees* The Shawshank Redemption - This movie taught me a lot. Sure, you might get sodomized, beaten, imprisoned, all against your will, but you can always pull one out at the end. (pun intended.) The Empire Strikes Back - Was just plain awesome. Also taught me that sometimes you've just gotta get your butt kicked. Hoth is the best planet in the whole Star Wars trilogy. a-g
The Professor
thanks for the insight as to why you picked these movies, I will have to go back and edit my post and do the same. Conan - classic, opened up my imagination and instilled a love for that type of genre......to be where magic was real and live and die by the sword...good stuff Shawshank - great.....though, it will really make you think twice about doing something that could send you to prison...and makes you aware that no one is untouchable...he was innocent and had so much taken from him....male or female, this movie will affect you.....also think Morgan Freeman is awesome... the bond of friendship portrayed in this film will make you cherish your own a bit more any Star Wars, Ever After, and Gataca are good Was not a big fan of Ravenous, Event Horizon, nor Hudsucker Proxy Never saw Zulu...... The Professor
all good movies, Hairspray is good in it's own right, but never thought I would see Enchanted picked....that is cool....to each their own....if that is the one I am thinking of.... have not seen Enemy at the Gates, I might have to look that one up
Evangelion
Enemy at the Gates is an excellent movie with a lot of historical basis about Russian snipers in World War II. Very realistic, very suspenseful. It's not a horror movie, but it will definitely keep you on the edge of your seat.

Twinblades713
10. American Beauty- Such a profound view of the world, it really changes some perceptions and opens your mind to realizations you might not make otherwise. 9. Triple X- Pretty damn fine action sequences and a surprisingly adequate plot development. Not godly, but a great view. 8. Boondock Saints- Kind of hard to place but this movie was great. Everyone knows we want someone to cap all the baddies. ^.^ 7. Resident Evil- Probably the best zombie death film/series to date. 28 days/weeks later is close second. 6. Saw I, III, IV, II in that order- Who'd a thunk someone could mix bloody slasher death type movies with intense plot detail, and intelligent trap design? Great. 5. Equilibrium- Another greatly intriguing storyline mixed with stellar action sequences and Christian Bale does not disappoint. 4. Lord of the Rings Trilogy- I really... don't need to explain this. 3. Fight Club- One of the best ideas for a movie I've ever experienced. I don't want to relinquish why for those that haven't seen it, and if you haven't, SEE THIS MOVIE QUICKLY! 2. 300- Possibly the best action sequences I've ever seen. Some don't like the constant slow motion, but mixed with several great one-liners this makes an excellent watch. 1. The Matrix-0mG 1 G3T s0 frick1n n00b. I LOVE THE MATRIX more than any other film I've ever seen ever. SEriously though, probably one of the best movies created. The Wachowski bros are definitely geniuses. This story is one of the only that could be possible. You can't deny it! Along with a great storyh and godly action sequences, I've seen this movie over 100 times quite literally. I'm a freak about the Matrix. Tell me it's not the best movie in the world and I might stab you... just sayin'
