Iconz
So... after writing all that in that villains thread... i got to thinking about the people in FL who either showed me the ropes, taught me important things, or just plum gave me a chance to learn... i thought it would be a good idea for a thread. Virigoth - Its amazing just how much the guy would answer newbie questions... whether it was through email... on the forum... or in game. There would be times i would hit a brick wall and wouldnt understand why i was getting my butt kicked and he would give me a hint... or a good piece of advice... or ask me the right question and i would understand. Belgrin - He gave me the shot at my first caballed character. Around that time CHAOS was in some trouble ... since you had people like Euperican around just wiping the floor with people. Belgrin gave me a shot after i talked with him a couple of times... and sent in my app... i wasnt even 50... and i condeathed before gettin to 50... Even though he was the leader of CHAOS...he took some beatings around the time since he was fighting against some major odds. I learned so much... and i always wanted to thank him for the opportunity. Technically Zaen let me in... but i think Belgrin reccomended me... so thanks to Zaen too. Tetsunai 1.0 - He let my healer ID so much of his equipment. Since I had no idea what eq was good... by letting me ID his stuff i was able to learn a lot about what certain rares did. killalou and my crew of high school friends - We started as the 3 of us (four including my friends brother who picked it up) and unlike so many other "ooc cliques" we spent most of our time trying to PK each other... we never really saw the point in trying to group up to kill other players. We learned so much by trying different tactics on each other. It was never really organized either... we would see one of our characters and we would attack... and log the fight. Then we might brag about it during lunch the next day... and we would talk about potential tactics. I learned so much by whippin their azz and having them kick mine... __________________ Iconz - Now you know... and knowing is half the battle! Gooooo Joe! Imoutgoodbye
Virigoth- For sure, Iconz, for sure. Was here six months and decided I deserved a vampire...shame I never bothered to learn what it meant to format an application. Viri gave me some pointers on writing an app and taught me to format. Also gave the "vampires are like race cars" speech. A month later I was approved for the undead quest for the first time....but I didn't know enough about the lands to do it, so I shelved that for five years. Myrek, Lay-About, Despiser, and Fem-nec: What can I say? I like to vent my frustrations on the forum. Thankfully there's always someone around to counter my venting because it's usually just whining. NOT ALWAYS. Just most of the time. It's really helped me turn my attention back on myself where it should be and allowed me to improve myself. Iconz and Gryph: Where the hell would I be without my brothers from another mother? Gryph showed me the ropes for sure when I started my FL career as a dark-knight....talk about having a bullseye on your back...and Iconz, I just felt like I grew up with him....guess it's more like I think like you two than we all think alike. By the way, it's influences, not influnces. The Church of FL: What can I say? I'd have NO confidence whatsoever without my church. Well...that's all I can think of for now. corpsestomp
Mine would have to be Glory in Battle and Lyghtbane, even though neither of them play hardly any more. We talked about FL so much that lots of it is ingrained in my skull. Later on, I found out Valek played the same thing, and he'd been playing quite a bit longer too. The stuff we'd talk about, equipment we found, etc made me want to keep playing.
Iusedtobesomebody
Personally, Myrek and Teralis, initially, who introduced me to FL. Then Viri, Crypt, Sirant and Chueh once I became an IMM. (Even you Razzie!) As for characters, Grishnak for killing me over and over and over and over on my first cabal and first 50 and forcing me to become a better player and thinker. Lots of people would get mad and frustrated. It made me think outside the box and adapt. It's tough love, but it's the only way you'll ever truly make that leap to a better player. Valek, it truly was my pleasure.

Oog
Marina and Murat Orim. They got me to play and its been like crack ever since.
Rairen
*poofs into the forum* Everything I know about emoting, I learned from Iconz. I was a roleplaying newb when I got here, and I'd probably still be hopeless if not for his example to follow. Shaw was pretty classy, too, but I think Airen and Athelea knew how to tell a damn good tale when they needed. They were pure grace, even when Airen was glaring the snot out of someone. *disappears again*
Mudder
Virigoth. Myrek. Sirant. Festy. Despiser. Old Man. Drenaar. Crypticant. WC. L-A, even you too...Actually, all the original crew. Anyone with an Elite flag by their name. It took me a very long time for me to get "the hang" of this game and even be able to stand near the "giants" I once played with. I looked up to them in awe of their giant stature. The good ole days. EDIT: Need to add Mhalador.
Evangelion
I second all of Mudder's choices. All of those people who schooled me in PK in 1.0 and 2.0. Then in 3.0 when I got my hands on the reins, and started to turn the tables a little, they did something amazing. They cheered me on, kept giving me tips when they beat me, and gave me props when I beat them. Instead of trying to tear me down and keep me on the bottom rung, so they could maintain their place on the pedestal, they showed me new items, taught me the lands, and helped me learn everything about this game. So yeah, my list consists of the following: Despiser (number one, the rest are in no real order), Bryntryst, Virigoth, Sirant, Mhalador, Festorvian, Samag, Lay-About, Auzzie, Warrior-Cleric, SMWoody, and BigMac. Deykari
All of the old-school 'elite' players, and anyone else that effortlessly beat me into the ground or had an excellent roleplayed character. Not because of their reputed PK skill and roleplaying ability inspired me (they did, but that wasn't a primary reason), but because I've never been a fan of the very subtle elitism that sometimes shows itself (I don't mean that in the insulting way to old-school players, I mean its just generally accepted that the old-school players are the FL big dogs) - I wanted to try and prove that 3.0 newbies can roll with the best of them in the RP and PK arena. Of course, I aren't there at all in that task but at least I don't get stomped by plasm beasts anymore. The last few of Despiser's characters (the only ones I got to interact with) showed me what I felt the 'model' FLer is. Fantastic PK prowess and RP ability, fleshed out characters that wouldn't let PK compromise RP, and would find IC ways of helping obvious newbies instead of giving them a good kicking. Iyorvin, for much the same as above. Slightly less forgiving in his approach to PK (I have had the scars to prove) but that ain't a bad thing - definitely a player I look up to. The guys who put so much effort almost exclusively into roleplay. Most recent example I can think of that I got to interact with over many characters was Khranin. The characters that constantly keep Aabahran feeling like a real, living place. I never really had any influences in the beginning that I can remember. It would be more like specific characters that influenced me and not players, as I wasn't really too involved with the forums until the latest one (this one) was set up so I didn't know who played who. I want to play again. Dey
Razkar
Virigoth - Taught me a lot about the Mud and was always patient. Never tore my head off the times I crashed the Mud putting in mobs/objects/rooms on the live port Crypticant - Made me an imm and is an overall awesome guy. Also gave me a userid/pwd on his "modeling" website. Mircea - Hands down the worst PKer in the history of FL. Also a very funny guy. Bryntryst/Rathe - Great guys. Still feel bad about leaving unannounced. Twice Dolgan/Aenarion - Showed me quite a few things. Both are fountains of knowledge and good guys, even though they are Swedish. Despiser - We had some fun on our shaman/warrior duo back when. Still remember you declaring war on my Cabal after I slayed you <3 you too Avariel, good to see you're still around
Aulian
Bryntryst's momma! <--- Razkar's post fully reminded me of this. Also of when Rathe gave the tree to Rhydien, the giant oak that stood in the CC.. Awesome.
Malchaeius
My influences: Virigoth. He was such a down to earth guy. His philosophy and vision influences my decisions. Bryntryst. Class act all the way. I still use his prompt. Kalug. Pretty much a mentor to me. I respect his opinion more then he knows - even though we disagree on a lot of mundane issues. Honorable Mentions: Mircea. I learned how to have a sense of humor from him. It makes things easier.
Pieman
As much as he will hold this above my head FOREVER I have to give my props to UB for showing me most of what I know and being my pal through my whole playing experience.
Ex-D&Der
Virigoth--this guy was cool. He gave me PK tips when I was getting nowhere. Myrek--gave me a sit-down IG, took me around, showed me some equipment, gave me general PK advice. Epurican--took me under his wing IG as kind of a younger brother. Showed me the ropes. Gave some specific ranger tips.
The End
*Cries terribly* Avariel, my first and only tatt. AWESOME HOURS of interaction on Marvicio. Festy, we started together the SAME DAY. Been cool ever since. Despy for deleting after I killed him with my watcher thief. That was rofl. Viri for giving me my first dragon and unique eq. Eshaine for making the last year of my game play worth it. Seiluna, Lethereal and Athelea. All three made Dobson my first ace character.
Pali
Tetsunai. Having my character's best friend be someone of opposite alignment showed me that you really can have incredible (on a personal level) things happen through RP, and interactions like he and Galadran had are what keep me here instead of somewhere else. They just don't happen in other games.
Elfrosto
Crypticant - Him and that wife of his taught me how to truly RP, and that was a hard lesson for me. MR - helped me...pretty much all the time in just random things. Ideas, suggestions, compliments, criticisms. WC - the bastard made me want to play better and smarter just to beat him Pali (of course, he taught me how to play) There were alot of characters in game that influenced me, some in more significant ways than the above. But that's a long list.

Unknown Brother
As much as he will hold this above my head FOREVER I have to give my props to UB for showing me most of what I know and being my pal through my whole playing experience. Awww <3. And yeah, forever. Unknown Criminal: My brother an I would talk about FL, 24/7 out on a walk, playing other video games. Mostly PK tactics with other classes and situations to take advantage of. Haha, my first pk after watching UC for half a year, I felt so sick during from the fear of losing, I told him to take over and I ran to the bathroom. Good times. a-guitarist
Malignant - This guy gave me more chances to prove myself, of which I did to minor degrees. Not to mention he is also one of nicest, most interesting, and smartest people you'll ever know... when he's not just home from work... then he's useless Wanted(Ninja) - Calandra was a good friend growing up, good friend in AR where WC, Wanted, and I started, and taught me a lot when he learned something new. And he NEVER held back an a** whooping on me when my char was in his sights. WC - Heh, this guy... yeah. Shandronas - I hope I spelled that right. Him and Welby. Heh. Great team. Learned about how much fun it is to take something odd and throw it into the mix. Crypticant/Shadowspawn - He gave me my friend "best of the month" drop, as his own category, "Best up-and-comer: Cadavant" He was also a great influence on teaching me some things. Back in 1.0 when you had to pick a religion to pass level 10, I asked Shadowspawn with a level 10 Duergar Cleric "Which god will grant me more power, you, or Virigoth?" he cast bless on me and told me, "I give you power while you live, Virigoth requires your death." or something like that. It was fun. Gael, Lysphenni, Kalug, and all the usual crowd, as well. a-g

killalou
My influences were my group of lackeys Iconz and Amored_Monk. Basically Armored_monk told me about the world of mudding, and how he was playing a mud called Aardwolf. I became interested and did a quick yahoo search and found fl. I told Armored_Monk and Iconz about it and they tested it since they had internet access. They said it was "very cool" and thus began my 4 year addiction of going to the public library just to mud which coincidently im doing right now because I dont have a stable internet connection at home, LOL. Virigoth also was a great influence. Helped me with Ashe Skien. Gave me tips, my own dragon which I never got again, and implenmented some of my ideas. Erick the master of the hunt also put me in the Hunter Cabal when I was rank 27 on my very first character. Wanted to join conclave but the imm said I had to be evil, pooie. myrek
I think viri was my biggest influence by taking the time to talk to a level 1 drow cleric. Every fight, literal, political, and ethical, shaped me more than specific individuals. Conflict is drama.
