brsingr
after 5 or 6 years of playing on and off and having never reached pinn, i think it's time to start getting good. so... what do you think? goodie cleric, start as adventurer?
Pali
Don't waste your time starting as an adventurer. Just go cleric from the get-go.

L-A
Human dark-knight is a better option. L-A
mya
If DK go Avian, you will die less. Good cleric is good, take a Dwarf. With the state of rares, it great to do more with less. Dont start with adventurer, but chose the Adventurer perk.
Iusedtobesomebody
I tried an adventurer with the adventurer perk my first char back. what a waste of time, I didn't even make it past 17 before I remorted. but those 25 minutes went by fast... go evil anything. fight everything that moves. you'll get back into the swing quickly. Dont start with adventurer, but chose the Adventurer perk. No you won't - and human is easier with more str and less xp pen to rank to lvl 50. Avain and drow DKs are very, very cooll but a major PITA to rank and then limited targets for a high lvl DK. Play a human - faster to rank, more people to attack. Ex-D&Der
If it's your first pinn I would go human cleric. No experience penalty, you can identify, cast sanctuary, recall, etc. etc. etc. Either that or just choose something you think is really cool and stick it out to pinn. But having done it this way, and then later ranked a cleric, I would suggest doing the latter first.
Mudder
I said Paladin because we need more goods. Lol.
L-A
I disagree with cleric because its not an easy thing to kill off mobs with. DKs are - enoguh melee and high damage afflictive spells early on (lightning bolt, fire and iceball). You can tank and hit mobs back - hard. You have a lot of PK grunt in the 20s and 30s where a nice set of red dragon/tainted etc will see you wiping out most mobs with ease. At lvl 50 you still have melee grunt and nice spells (just use afflictive, forget about your mal unless you get in a lucky cleave). Malform is really the icing on the cake. Its an easy class to rank and a human one doesn't have too much of a penalty. If your entire goal is to see lvl 50 then take the adventuerer perk - you'll be amazed at how fast you can rank yourself through. L-A PS - paladins aren't as offensive but are probably still a good choice - though I believe a DK is a more solid option.
Pali
My paladins I found ridiculously easy to solo rank. Most evil mobs get hit VERY hard by wrath, flamestrike blind isn't that hard to land on them and lasts a while, and being able to sanc/cure yourself is a great bonus for exploring places or solo ranking. Though... I've got to agree with L-A. DKs are also great for learning... getting into a lot of fights is a great way to pick up PK skills.
Quigt
Oh! I didn't notice that you hadn't pinned before. Good Human Warrior.
Anoneemus
Warrior is IMO the single worst class for a beginner, although it's also the most common choice. No survivability, dependency on EQ that you don't know where to find, you're just an easy target.

This is the order I would reccomend for a newer player (from easiest to pinn, to hardest). As for race? Human for all of them, with adventurer perk. Anoneemus
Druid easy and invoker hard? I don't know about that. Invokers are pretty survivable and easy to PK with, whereas druids require a lot more finesse. But it's true that they are way more survivable. Yearning will turn off a lot of new players who aren't familiar with where to find forest rooms.
Psycho Child
This isn't just PK. Its also easibility (is that a word?) to rank, which is mostly solo these days. Solo ranking a voker past 30 is not fun. Druids otoh, are cake. I made that list as a combo of PvE, PvP, and equiping ability. Thus why casters are so far down the list. Solo ranking a caster as a new player (who won't know where to get the best mercs, and that one nifty scroll) is a nightmare, and could make someone quit the game. Hence also why Healers are farther down than clerics/shamans.
HouselessRogue
Pshh... non-cabaled healer. Easy to slay mobs and you'll live forever without cabal warfare.

Imoutgoodbye
Easiest, cheapest way to just get to pinn is a non-cabaled healer. 1. If you don't run amok PKing, most people will leave you alone. 2. Playing a good keeps other players (good aligned) from killing you. 3. Neutrals usually won't come after you. 4. Don't cabal and most cabals will leave you alone. 5. Gate is awesome...as long as you remember to stay flying with protective shield up. 6. Take the religion compassion and espouse it! 7. Take care that there's someone around to feed you when resurrection fails too many times. Generally, just try to keep yourself low profile until you get to 50. You'll get decent to great experience from resurrecting people. I'm sure you have a decent enough knowledge of the lands you'll know where to gate to to get to a fallen lightwalker/neutral. Good luck!
mya
Healers dont hog Polearms. But still its kind creepy when you see a healer with Hit/Dam eq... Good clerics are very nice vs big Mobs, once they hit 50. With Holy hands, Steel wall, and Ray Blind. But Evil ones get the PK easy, with Plague,Poison,Sermons and 30 mana path.
