Lights out [Rant]

Ok, since when was it that if you died or were executed it was extremely hard to re-equip?

Even in the city you can't see a bloody thing! It's as if with the heartwrenching death, you get a pisser of a kick to the crotch because you can't even find a friggin light unless you know your way around. And even then, you can't buy or kill anything because you can't see the friggin bugger.

Even if it is nighttime, in cities atleast, you should be able to see anywhere around town. I think this just makes it harder for noobies.

If this isn't happening to any other non-pk-elite, please tell me. I feel like such a fool trying to 'feel' my way around the lands.

I think there should be easier to get lights in town. I have no problem making my way blind to get something off a nearby mob. However, a new player will find this insanely difficult. I've helped a few in this situation.

And, in the past week I've had the pleasure (no sarcasm here) of helping three different new people learn the ropes of the game little better. Always makes me smile to do that.

Actually' date=' in cities there should be lights. It's feasable that there would be lanterns installed in cities for night times, as it was in real life.[/quote']

Actually many medieval cities and almost all towns did not have any lights at night. That was a extravagant and frivolous expense. Became much more popular during the victorian age.

Still, my point stands and with magic, FL's technology can be compared to the 21st century. If cities can afford the upkeep to maintain magical city gates, animate golems, magically lock down cities to prevent escape from outlaws, then they can afford to hire a few priests to commune 'create light'(or whatever the name of the spell is) in order to create a few permanent lights in the city.

yehh its strange.

You can get a permanent light from the Shire, but the moment you kill the mage, the room goes dark and you cannot loot the Corpse.

Now when i die with a human, the first thing i do is buy one of those 400 gc lantern.

I agree with Questioner, the new people can get frustrated with this. I like t posting the directios to the shops on the forums, but a lot of the new people are not on the forums yet. Many times I have menchioned to them that the forums are here on newbie chat, and that they can get additional help from here. But before I get away from my point, they do not know of the forums until they are given some info about it. I did not notice how bad it was for a while until I rolled up a new character, died, and then could not see in town. This came to a shock to me that town was pitch black and I almost cried. Now think about what that would do to someone new?

Sounds like a job for a goodie cleric to me. Just sprinkle those light balls liberally throughout the cities...or maybe just in your favored temple. That's up to you. I freaked a little when I couldn't see anything after a death. Fortunately I knew roughly where the lamp store was. Also, it isn't so dark you can't tell WHERE you are.
