ladyoki
Any cat experts out there? Montahg and I just moved, and we're with my mom and brother now. Our cat (Ara) has never had a problem with strangers before, but she has been hissing at my mother frequently and occassionally my brother, as well. She was introduced to a lot of new people last night, some of which she was very friendly with and let them pet her no problem. My brother can pet her, but my mother can't get her hand close without Ara starting to hiss. I'm not sure if it's how my mother acts towards Ara, as she seems to be scared of the cat as well. Recently, Montahg was petting Ara, hoping to keep her calm so my mother could pet her. When my mother went to pet her, Ara ran her paw across my mom's arm, but her claws were not out so she didn't scratch. My mom did react by pulling her arm back quickly - just as she's done several times. Is it the cat, my mom, or both? And what suggestions or ideas do any of you have? Twinblades713
I'm not singling out your cat, and some cats are exceptions, but I've found in most cases, cats are just terrible creatures. The nice ones I love, but the I hate most of them, the ones that sh*t on the ground and expect you to take orders from it. Give it what it wants and it might be nicer. Hehe. KRins
Cats are very perceptive. If you put off negative vibes towards them, they will respond in a very similar manner. See if your mother can approach with confidence and in my experience that will often change the reaction of cat or any other animal really. Iusedtobesomebody
I have 2, and most likely it is upset about the move. The change of familiararity has made it unsure, and thus very tense. Give it time. Or it can just be possessed. Tough to call.

The Professor
most cats get along best with owners of the opposite sex than those of the same, it is all about the scent. If your mom is stressed, afraid, sick, or releases alot of pheromones due to a strong sex drive the cat will feel threatened. If your mom wants to try to co-exist with this cat I suggest she goes about trying different types of soap and/or perfume. It is within the animals nature to try and be head of the pact, the Alpha even in females, she could easily see your mom as a threat to her role among your family. That is a main reason why most pets, cats in paticular, dislike babbies. Okay....I am going to pass out now.....
Malchaeius
I have said this many times: Cats are evil creatures. I hate them with a passion, and I am not particularly fond of cat people either.
Pali
She occassionally does act like the spawn of hillary clin... err' date=' satan.[/quote'] Hillary Clinton is not an atheist, at least, not by any statement she's ever made that I've seen (and trust me, if she had, I'd have seen it). I fully leave open the possibility that she claims a level of religious belief simply because admitting to be an atheist would ruin her chances of being elected and she knows this, however. And I fail to see how Satan could possibly be an atheist... he may not accept God as the rightful ruler of Heaven or somesuch, but I'm fairly sure he believes God exists. And how does being an atheist equate to being like either of these two?! At least relate to Stalin instead of Hillary... I mean... Hillary... *shudder*

I should have just said "She's not an atheist, but she does act like the...." whatever I love you?
Vee
Hmm It might not sound like the nicest thing to do for the cat, but we have done this with sucess for some cats in situations similar to this, you could roll the cat up in a blanket or towel and have its head sticking out and hand it to your mom to pet until the cat simply gives up on trying to hiss claw and all the other bad behaviors, this sometimes works. Imoutgoodbye
Quite frankly, this is not the cats fault. Mainly because cats are awesome. So are people who like cats. Just tell the mom that the cat owns whatever room it happens to be in. Obviously the cat is more dominant of the two anyway. Cats also sense the presence of evil quite easily. They are the guardians of the underworld.
mya
"They are the guardians of the underworld." Yeeh right, flash back to ancient Egipt. Have you tried having the mother being the only person to feed the cat ? If all fails, just tell her to ignore the cat. If she whishes to sit on sofa and it hisses, just tell her to throw a pillow to the cat. The cat will eventually learn how to behave.

Bl3h
Man, I dunno why you guys all think that cats are evil. My cat is awesome. He's so friendly and loving, and fluffy and cute! Haha. I've never seen him hiss at anyone, or claw anyone unless he was playing. And he owns because he's only got 1 eye.
