Twinblades713
Quick question. So knowing a weapons will help you defend against it better, even if you're not using that weapon. So does knowing pugil help defend against someone who is using a staff better than just if you knew the staff?
Psycho Child
I wouldn't think so.
mya
No, Pugil just aids you offence by increasing the number of attacks. If you are a Ninja wielding a staff it might buy you time to drop your -STR buffs on him. Nerve,Poison ....etc.
Pieman
Not that this really needs to be pointed out but technically those would be -STR debuffs
KRins
The Liege of Baked Goods is right...even though most people around here call them mals.
Twinblades713
Having not received a definitive answer, I'll just assume it doesn't. @ Mya Ninjas... with the ... what now? Where did that come from?
Anoneemus
The answer is 99% no, it doesn't help.

KRins
She is talking about the defensive nature of staffs giving a ninja a chance to chill in combat longer with a superior melee class I think...but who knows what she is really thinking? Psycho Child
Why is a ninja in melee anyway? Strangle, blind, assassinate, loot, move to next victim. What is this ninja in melee crap? He already lost he should be running, not tossing out nerve strikes.
KRins
You never fought a melee ninja? I can't recall names, but there have been a few that have been pretty nasty. It is like strangle, blind, poison, nerve, grapple, grapple, grapple, chase some, shoot an arrow into them, grapple, loot.
L-A
Ninja's can melee though you use the surprise of hide to get the jump, usually. Vs true melee classes they generally lose if all things are equal (though a smart ninja isn't going to fight you with all things being equal...). I wouldn't take the pugil option myself - though I can think of exactly what it would so, so, so useful against as a ninja. Depends on how good you think you are at getting the most out of the skillset with no assassinate or throw bonuses. L-A
Psycho Child
The last melee ninja I fought was Clovis?(one of those C people) who was ?????? in 1.0... Am I showing my age now?
English lad
Pugil destroys thieves - which is a ninja's biggest advantage against them in the battle of the shadows. Mindflayer player a SICK melee ninja feral in watcher whose name escapes me now. Take Double sheath or Shadow Arts and you can make a very nice melee ninja. Fired weapons + dual wielding + autothrow from double sheath can make for a very nice opening round if you get that suprise drop on people. For what it's worth, I think the doublesheath option is really overrated for ninjas. Psych: If my memory serves, I think you're talking about Clavrus. Evangelion
That was Rhazhakhar. The Forsaken played Hankith, who was also a sick feral ninja.

Pali
Auto throw? Thats not overrated at all. I'd have to agree. Bouncing in and out of fights to use it is a VERY viable tactic... takes quick keyboard work, but it's very effective.

But they're all good. Except one.
Kyzarius
In a good fight its down to 100 hp on either side, those freebies hurt. When your both at pretty hurt, and sanc drops....
Anoneemus
In a better fight, you can kill them before they have a chance to hit back, or get the upper hand through mals. But I know what you're saying. I just think it shouldn't be an automatic choice, all the other selects give big bonuses to different playstyles. Pali
Oh, I also agree that the others are perfectly viable. I took it on my last ninja honestly because it fit the RP best... I would've rather taken Lotus Scourge as a player, just because I haven't really seen it in action since 1.0 and I'm curious how it is now.
