Shinth
I cannot access the newbie channel anymore, and the Gods haven't answered my PRAY to allow me to use it again, so I have a few questions which I cannot ask in-game: 1. Area effect skills, like blindness dust and poison smoke affect everyone in the same room as me. If there are other adventurers there beside me and my target, will they start to attack me? 2. What do they do more precisely? A blindness effect like when you don't have a light and damage over time for poison smoke? 3. What does caltrops do? I notice them limping, does that add a delay to when they move rooms? 4. Is throw and edge craft worth practicing without doublesheath? 5. Nerve makes them do less damage, hit more often, or both? 6. Acupuncture heals you, while you have more chances to miss or you do less damage? 7. Do you loose a point of maximum constitution or current constitution when you die 5 times? 8. What do mounts actually do? Less movement points cost when moving? Increased chance for other to miss hitting you? These are all my questions for now, thank you for reading this post. Hey, 1. - Area affect attacks affect all in the room, and provided they are in the right 'state' to attack you (awake, and not a group member/invincible NPC) then they will attack you automatically. 2. Pretty much, though being blind is more than just having no light - there is a hitroll/AC penalty too. 3. Caltraps gives a dexterity and hitroll penalty, and makes them use a lot more MV when moving. 4. Yes. You can still throw normally in combat, and envenom daggers/use elemental daggers to hit vulns/etc. 5. Nerve just reduces their strength - any penalties that come with lower strength (not being able to hold certain weapons, low hit/dam roll, lower weight carrying limit etc.) apply provided it lowers their strength enough. 6. I cannot quite remember, but if you fail you lose hit/dam roll, dexterity and can't use it again for sometime. If you suceed, you don't get any penalties, or maybe just the dexterity penalty? Don't remember. Someone else should be able to clear that up for you. 7. Current. You can top it back up with items/trains. 8. Less MV used when moving. There is a rumour that any class other than a Paladin also shouldn't fight mounted (Paladins have the mounted combat skill) for some obscure code-related reason, but this has never been confirmed. Don't worry about it. Hope that helps. Dey
Twinblades713
Past a certain level, 15 I think, you cannot use newbie chat anymore. Sorry. You might make another char that you keep under that level just for the purpose of asking newbie questions. 1. If you mean the adventurer class, then they wno't attack you because "adventurers" are non pk classes. If by adventurer you mean other "players" they will attack you if you use an area skill that hurts them, and it will if they are in your pk range, signified by a 2. Blindness disallows you to see anyone or anything in your room, you can't see anything on your "where" and you have a penalty to your hitroll. Poison is damage over time, but this is also useful for keeping hide/camo classes out in the open, when you take damage, even poison damage, you come out of hiding. 3. Caltraps make your opponent use more moves to get around, so they tire quicker, and it also reduces their hitroll. 4. As for throw and edge craft, that's up to you to decide. They're powerful skills if used right, so take advantage where you can. 5. Nerve reduces their strength I think. This may or may not do anything depending on their eq and spells, but less strength generally stands for less hitroll and damroll. 6. I'm not exactly positive on the effects of this, but failing is bad. Succeeding heals you and knocks down your dex a bit for a few hours. 7. Current constitution, you can use a train to pop that back up if you haven't peaked yet. It won't extend your lifespan though. 8. Mounts decrease the energy it takes to travel, and increase your regeneration of moves. There are also other secret factors involving mounts. Alot of this I would suggest is a , test out yourself and see, but seeing as how this is your first char here, I thought I'd cut you a break. It's good to get into the habit of figuring things out yourself, not so you won't look silly asking questions, I still do all the time, but so that you might discover some little nifty tricks to help you along the way. Good luck man. EDIT: Dey, you turkey! I knew someone would beat me to it.
Shinth
Testing things that involves killing Shinth isn't exactly what I am looking for. As for acupuncture, failed means that you loose 2 dex. It takes about 3 minutes to recover it. Thank you for your help, the Immortals were kind enough to let me use the newbie channel again. mya
You can ask this kind of Questions on the Newbie section Shinth. Nothing special about it, but helps us keep the forums tidy and neat. So have you seen the Essays section ? There is some good advice to you in there. For example the Ninja class Essay. (It's like a FAQ.) http://www.forsakenlands.org/forum/showthread.php?t=11 Also dont forget to always carry a Recall potion for when you get lost, or are about to die and wish to escape fast. Vanish skill is also usefull in escaping other players.this.
Quigt
Pretty much, though being blind is more than just having no light - there is a hitroll/AC penalty too. But a Blindness spell can't be cured just by wearing a light. You gotta get certain potions or use a Cure Blindness spell to remedy it.
KRins
If you blow an acupuncture, You get a hit/dam penalty on top of a dex penalty on top of no healing. Success still results in the dex penalty. On a different note...very ballsy to choose a ninja for your first character.

Anoneemus
Shinth is like our newborn child, it's so cute! Definitely train edge craft. A lot of people think there's no difference, but they're very wrong. You'll see, if you take the time to master it.

BUT I forgot to use Chii on both fights... let me think, maybe I could of tried poison smoke if your hits didn't hurt so bad that I had to flee. Maybe I should have started with dirt, because I never managed once to hit with strangle. What I woulda done, is fled if the strangle didn't work. It's like baseball - you gotta wait for the good pitch before you swing. At least with ninjas anyway. Keep in mind that I'm no authority for giving out advice on ninjas. English lad
I wouldn't recommend poison smoke in battle, you'll find at higher levels that you have an easier, and more effective way of poisoning. Make sure you keep your oponent dirted at all times, only exception would be a berserker. If you can get the jump with strangle its great, but don't over try it, as a prepared person can make it near impossible for you get a get a succesful strangle - if its a planned duael this will probably be the case also. READ LA'S PK ESSAY!! I can't emphasize this enough, especially the sections about preparation - don't fight without sanctuary, don't fight without protection, get shield, armor, stoneskin, bless. If you don't know where to get these ask IC. Just remember as you picked an evil char as your first you won't always get answers, as from a RP pov not many people have a reason to help an evil. A huge amount of PK is the element of suprise, and the preparation you do, get those two things down right and your halfway there.
a-guitarist
Also, the guy who coded a lot of the base for FL, Virigoth, once said of the forums that your hand to hand skill is taken into account to your strangle skill. So if you've got a 100% h2h, then you'll strangle better. a-g
Calron
Yes, definitely master hand-to-hand if you want to do well with strangle. I made this mistake with MY first ninja eons ago.
