My first fight

KRins

Recommended Posts

So I found out about half an hour ago that I finally get a chance to fight in my first MMA event. Saturday Night, Lakeland Florida... results and victory/forget defeat party details to follow. Say a little prayer that boxing and takedown defense is enough...other dude is 1-1 split decision over a kid I train with. I school the kid I train with standing, on the ground...I struggle against him.

Don't forget to keep your arms up.

I had a friend that Did BJJ and Kick, and when i went to see his first "MAA" match he fought with his hands bellow the waist. Dodging punches.

Only when he took a dive did he notice that. Managed to recover and win, but his face went dark purple.

I can imagine pressure being so big that people do strange stuff.

And GOOD LUCK!!!

There's more to it than punching and grappling. Don't get too nervous or worried that you'll get your *** kicked. The ref. won't let you die, and the other guy isn't going to kill you. Relax and try to have a good time during the fight. Good luck.

P.S.

Pics or it didn't happen.

  • 4 weeks later...

Lost...arm barred. I was doing well, I caught him square in the first..only like 10 seconds left though. I got a really really easy takedown in the 2nd, was pushing ankles to the sides to GnP from standing, came down hard one time, missed, cracked my knuckle, left my arm there too long because surprisingly...broken knuckles hurt and got caught. I won the first round on all 3 cards to my credit...

...I have no idea what any of that means.

Lost...arm barred.

He lost the match by being submitted with a move called an 'arm bar'

I was doing well' date=' I caught him square in the first..only like 10 seconds left though.[/quote']

He landed a good punch on his opponent's face right at the end of the first round.

I got a really really easy takedown in the 2nd' date=' was pushing ankles to the sides to GnP from standing,[/quote']

I believe he's saying that his opponent was laying on the ground, while KRins was on top of him, throwing punches downward.

came down hard one time' date=' missed, cracked my knuckle, left my arm there too long because surprisingly...broken knuckles hurt and got caught. [/quote']

After having missed his opponents head, his hand must have hit the mat and broken a knuckle. While being in extreme pain, his opponent must have grabbed his arm, and put him in an arm bar submission

I won the first round on all 3 cards to my credit...

There are 3 judges, and each keep a score for every round. So according to the judges, he won the first round.

You're right there. I wrestled 4 years in high school 4x state qualifier, was on the UCF team for a while. I assumed that superior standup + wrestling = GnP dominance. Seems like I'm terribly inaccurate punching down though.

Umm...standing over him, pushing his ankles to the side, then cross face? You control the ankles, pass to a side and pound. Just don't miss...downward momentum + gravity = greater force on your hand which might = a broken knuckle.

My bad...for some reason read it as mounted. Guess I just have Dey and Mont on the brain...

As far as MMA goes, I have yet to compete. I have fought in three Jiu-Jitsu tournaments here in Texas and have earned second place twice and first place once. My instructor is working on getting the videos on youtube, but one of my opponents (Tyson Finley, who won first place in my division at the TXBJJ Travis Lutter Invitational) has posted a video of our match, in which he outpoints me 7-0 in four minutes.

His points were at 2:21 for side mount and 3:17 for rear mount. This was my fourth match of the day, the first two in the absolute division (no weight classes) with both my opponents over 200lbs (I cut to 145) and I was utterly exhausted by the time I got to Tyson. Hopefully my other matches will be up soon and I can display my jits.

P.S. - I'm the red-haired guy with the black & white shorts.

At the 17 second mark he was basically begging you to shoot a head inside single on his right leg. When he shoots his double at :27, you pulled him into you instead of keeping your hands open and ready to push him out and sprawl (Although I thought you were going to catch the guillotine). Outside of that, your jiu jitsu is a lot better than mine. I noticed a couple tiny things like when you stood up in his guard, your feet were square and you almost got swept. I always stand staggered but that is more habit from wrestling and boxing. He was posting on his right elbow alot while you were in his guard, and I generally try to collapse the posted elbow and go for a kimura which may or may not be sound pure jiu jitsu...as far as MMA goes if I miss the kimura it seems like they either stop controlling my posture and I can get my GnP on or they unconsciously pop their guard open hand fighting with me and gives me a decent chance to pass on the opposite side.

Montagh...My knuckle is still on the mend, I can't work a heavy bag without it hurting (not debilitating pain, but I can feel myself hold back some) yet but a speed bag is no problem. I'm a strictly orthodox boxer and no right hand eliminates all but 2 power punches (if you even consider a lead uppercut a power punch...technically it is but I've probably thrown all of 1 in sparring the month leading up to my fight). On the bright side, my jab is even snappier than it used to be (I pride myself on my jab...I'm convinced I'll score a KO one day with a jab.) and I get a lot of BJJ time. I hope to fight in Orlando September 20th or Tampa in mid-November. I would probably be able to fight earlier, but my school likes to send 3 or 4 of us to a show...maybe they get a group rate or something.
