Twinblades713
Hey, I've never even applied for a qrace/class because I've been trying to get better at pk first, but I've been writing some apps in case and I have to ask, mostly aimed at the imms, can I get a few examples of what is trite and overused for these kinds of apps? Because I may have a good one written up but if it's been used a million times.. I would feel stupid. I've only seen a few apps that people posted after their character was deleted/condeathed. Throw me a bone? I wanna write up something new.
Anoneemus
Killed your parents. Killed your pets. Killed your parents' pets. Killed your pets' parents. Cut yourself often. Enjoy writing about how much you cut yourself. Got multiple personalities and a bad temper. Harvesting souls. Want to feel the embrace of unlife. Believe that everything living should in fact, not be living. I'm sure I left some out. That said, there's nothing wrong with being a little cliche, this is a fantasy world after all. If everyone had strange RP, the norm wouldn't exist. Edit: Don't hesitate to send in an app just because you think you're bad at PK. Vamp is the only one that might count that against you, but I even know of vamps and avatars who sucked at PK when they got approved.
Deykari
IMO it's not the concept, but the execution. Coming up with some wild and wonderful idea just for the sake of being different is all well and good, but sometimes a basic idea (with your own spin on it, add a little spice) done well is much better. Having a wild and wonderful idea done well, is also just as good... just don't feel you have to be different just for the sake of it, provided you add your own little spice if it's following a cliché. Just my opinion. Dey
Anoneemus
Yeah I totally agree Dey. I think a well-roleplayed character doesn't have to be original, as long as they carry themselves well they can be a very typical do-gooder or annoying halfling or undead menace, they will still add a lot more life to the world than a crazy outcast neutral vampie avatar watcher bard. Deykari
Outcast Neutral Vampire Avatar Watcher Bard? Hypothetically speaking, assuming one wanted to apply for that... what would you choose as your base race, class and align? Not that I want to apply for it or anything... *walks away whistling* Dey

Mudder
I agree with what has already been said... Some of the best RPs out there are cliches that have just been done very very well. You get into trouble by doing the same overused RP and doing it half a$$ed
Quigt
If I was an IMM, the most important part to me would be how well you portray the perspective of the application. Whether you do it from your character's PoV, their parent's, their pets, their parent's pets- how well you get into character would determine how good it was to read. a-guitarist
And if it gets rejected, don't delete. If you really want that quest race/class, roleplay with the imms. I know of a few characters who got second chances, and most of the succeeded in their original goal. If you don't get what you want? You've put the hours into the guy, make the IMMs regret not demoning/avataring/undeadifying you. And I don't mean a crusade on the forums about contrived injustices, but make your character stand the hell out. Be the best RPer they've seen in ages. I've had two demons. I apped for the second one. It's all about RP. I made Crypticant interested right off the bat with a single tell when I tried to gather some info on Demons in general. 20 minutes later I was being a complete newb casting fireball in the Meat Butchery in Val Miran, then wondering why I couldn't talk in the Jail house after I was caught.... Oh, I've also been cabaled twice, once an Elder (Warmaster). I was never able, and still can't, PK. Player Killing is only part of the story. As long as the other stuff is stellar, then man, you're golden. a-g
'tarako
'Hmmm. After reading the link WC gave, I do believe I know why I never got a response on one of my apps. It was 5 parts... Time to edit I suppose.
Pieman
I dunno about length being too bad of thing, I seem to remember a lich's app, Venacyr I belive was posted and it was pretty huge.
Imoutgoodbye
Nah...try to hold it to three parts or less....my last undead app was the longest app I ever wrote....it was almost three parts.
Anoneemus
I've never written a multi-part app. It just seems pointless. If the imm likes your RP, they will RP with you, like WC said. For the same reason I hated using Livejournal, I would write about everything that happened to me and then all of a sudden I have no reason to talk to my friends; they already know everything. You only have to write enough to get them hooked, anything more is selling yourself short.

That made me lol myself.

Provide enough info to pique interest, but leave the real meat of your character to be found out through roleplay - unless it's something critical you need to put in your app. If someone told you everything about a movie, you would be a lot less interested in watching it. Long apps aren't bad apps, just that I think it's harder to write a good long app than it is to write a good short app. Well, it is for me anyway. Raargant
I think Sirant put it best: "If I can fit my resume for a job application on one page, you can do it for a qrace application."
Pali
I'd have to agree that cliches are bad only because they're so often done badly. My last qrace was a guy going for undead simply because he wanted power. That really was all there was to it, and I made no attempts to play it up as something more. He wanted power, he wanted immortality, and he was willing to trade his soul for them. And I got undead because I stuck to it and played the power-hungry type pretty well (at least, IMO).
