Rethrick
As some of you know, I have been in Taqqadum, Iraq for over 2 months now. Just the other day, we were on patrol on MSR Michigan (the main road used in supply route) when my truck was hit by an IED. After the blast when made sure everyone was ok and then went to go look for a trigger man (the man who detontates the IED). Upon climbing out of the truck, I took the step wrong and messed up my knee. I go in for a surgical eval on Tues. and most likely will be returning home, so expect some more of me coming soon. Valsgarde
That sucks bad. Good thing no one was effed up though. One of my best buds is in the 1st Cav and just got back from Iraq in February. I've heard horror stories about IEDs.

Calron
Improvised Explosive Device. Basically they are booby traps, roadside bombs, etc. They are the main cause of US military casualties in Iraq. The enemy cannot really directly "fight" the US military, so IEDs are the substitute. Ex-D&Der
"Improvised" I thought.

Rethrick
Yeah, and I was the gunner so I am very luck to have survived the blast. It peppered the right side of the vehicle with shrapnel and nearly penetrated the armor around my turret.

Rethrick
That is funny cause the trucks we are driving kinda look like a warthog... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MRAP_(armored_vehicle) got a good pic of an MRAP taking a blast on here. Imoutgoodbye
Sorry to hear about the knee. Knee injuries are the worst ones I've sustained. As for IED's, I have a friend who was a marine and spent three tours of duty in Iraq while he was in. He asked me to turn down the music while we were playing one day while we were playing D&D and I was pissy with the group already. I had to ask him if he couldn't tell the difference between me talking and the music playing, he said no. I told him to clean his ears, to which he replied, "I can't. They've been slightly altered by all the IED's that went off near the trucks." The table got dead silent. Then someone else asked if they could use that excuse to kill my music. "No, you're a ****in' civvy." Good time, good time. Enjoy coming home. We're glad to have you back.

People are saying sorry... Though when I read this, all I can think is, "Awesome. Your getting out of that sh*t hole and only took a small knee injury." To me this is a good thing. So, congrats man. Hopefully your knee heals up real nicely.

Rethrick
We think it may be the meniscus, but the deterioration of the cartilage is to the point that I, and I quote the Corpsman, "Every test that I just put you through you FAILED... miserably." He even went as far as saying that I had the knee's of a retired running back, is that bad?

He even went as far as saying that I had the knee's of a retired running back, is that bad?[/quote'] Don't feel too bad. I have the same problem with cartilage. You might want to wear a wrap around the knee before it starts slipping or putting too much pressure on the joints. I'm talking about one of those ACE bandage wraps, none of those sleeves. If you have the money there's a certain kind of brace with metal running up and down it, but that seems too bulky to me. And, sadly, you'll want to lay off anything too physical, including dancing. Don't do too much running (I've cut it out all together), stick with anything low impact. You, like I, will eventually need knee replacements. But we're both too young. We'd have to be in EXCRUCIATING PAIN before they'd even consider it because the replacements wear out in like 10-20 years I think. They usually don't do replacements for the knees until you're like 60 or something like that.....I'm not real sure...it's been a while since that discussion. Rethrick
Yeah, but I most likely will be getting some sort of surgery, or else they wouldn't be sending me home, ya know.

The meniscus in my mind is probably one of the better ones to have repaired.
Mudder
There are many supplements that support healthy cartiledge. I would look into that. Go to vitamin world, ask the sales reps. They're usually pretty knowledgeable there. Or do the research yourself.
Imoutgoodbye
I don't want to rain on your parade, but you can't regrow cartilage. Unless you're Harry Potter.
