Aulian
Thoughts and Feelings? Took some time to get around to watching this althought I've wanted to for a long time.. Wow. Shock. Serious and absolute shock. I'm actually lost for words, I actually choked up at some of that... Having lost a parent to a serious illness very recently...Sh*t. Ex-D&Der
I choked up when the hospital dumped the patient in the street.
Anoneemus
Yeah, I thought it was pretty messed up too. I mean seriously, the French get 3 months paid vacation every year? Those bastards. Even though I'm liberal, I tend to dislike most of Michael Moore's work because it's just so biased and conveniently lacking in anything resembling a counterpoint. But, this one seemed a lot more accurate than anything else he's done, and I definitely sympathized with a lot of the people in it.
Aulian
They said they get 5 weeks paid vacation. Same with us in New Zealand.
a-guitarist
Speaking as a person on state mandated health care, it's a botched system. And if anyone thinks that as soon as everyone gets put on it that the system will be redone to work obviously doesn't understand that there is NOTHING efficient about that bureaucratic horse****. Privatized health care is better. I don't even like the government having control of my snail mail. I really can't think of anything that wouldn't be done better if privatized. Oh, I'm in the States, by the by. The french system may be great, and all, but they are how far in debt with their health care system? In 2004 they were 11 billion Euros in debt because of their system. So in four years (since the start of their CMU) France's 64 million people ran up a bill of at least 11 billion (probably more because that is the amount they couldn't pay). Sure, it may help the people now, but in the end guess who is going to get the bill? Who do you want telling you how much your health and quality of life is worth? Someone who specializes in Health Care, and has to compete with other companies by offering better service, or the people who couldn't figure out how to fix, or deal with, the hanging chads? a-g

Anoneemus
All I know is, someday I plan on being the kind of dad who has a bunch of tools and doesn't know how to properly use them. When (not if) I lose a finger, I expect it to be fixed for a small deductible.
a-guitarist
Nope. But nothing anyone tells me will make me change my mind on socialized health care, which is what I've been told this movie is about. Maybe I'm mistaken. Edit: Also, please don't think I that believe the current health care system in the US is without flaw. It's broken, I realize this. But my health was much better when I had private health care through Blue Cross/Blue Shield or whatever the hell I was under. a-g
Ex-D&Der
It's pretty good--you should check it out. Even if it doesn't convince you it's a good movie.
Quigt
Edit: Also, please don't think I that believe the current health care system in the US is without flaw. It's broken, I realize this. But my health was much better when I had private health care through Blue Cross/Blue Shield or whatever the hell I was under. What I got from it is this: the system is broken because insurance companies essentially determine whether or not you get the attention you need when you need it. Which is true. And it's wrong. It's completely wrong. If somebody needs stitches, then that person deserves his mother****ing stitches. People want to make a business out of human welfare, and that's what needs to change.
