How did you get into FL?

Trash PK was unheard of - Aturions (qclasses) were a race of aliens that had come to enslave the world so basically it was the 'races' vs the Aturions. PK did exist between the races but was rare - there was no point in killing someone you could need to help when the Aturions showed up. Anyone who has cried foul of unfair PK here has never experienced a 'true' PK MUD.

...

Imagine getting one shotted (and I literally mean one hit, not one round of attacks) at level 50 by a demigod (level 100) who spent 2000$ on his artifact weapons.

Or two shotted (at best) at level 86 by the same person.

Enjoy restricted PK! :)

Was introduced to true RPG by my father at about age 7-9 (don't remember exactly where) in the form of GURPS. Unable to play as much as I would've liked due to an unfortunately busy portion of my parents life I turned to the internet.

At the time I had a kids account on AOL so I was somewhat restricted in what I could do, found some open RP themed chatrooms that didn't have any sort of parental control restrictions and got hooked on playing with other people in text based chat.

Drifted to Gemstone (which was free at the time) and got hooked on the whole MUDding experience. When Gemstone III finally became pay-to-play, drifted about for awhile searching for other MUDs to play. Played one called Age of War (I think that was what it was) for awhile, at some point it dropped out for awhile when I think they had some troubles with their coders/builders/website and drifted aimlessly until I came across FL. FL had a better overall system and I quickly got hooked on it of my own accord.

Since then, drifted about here and there, playing for a few months/years and dropping out for about the same amount of time. Currently not playing...but strongly considering rolling something.

I was disgusted by the last mud I had played for almost a year, took a quick look at TMS, and decided I should try Aabahran.

Tried it before, if my memory serves me right, and didn't like it, but this time I was lucky enough to play at peak and some very nice Imms were bored and decided to play with my char, I loved that, so I decided to stick around.

+1 for Zhokril! And ditto to what Malch said, interacting with morts is usually equally entertaining for both parties.

Back in highschool I spent more time staying with friends, than going home. Well, I was over at Murat's house and I was introduced to a mud text game called Border Keep. It had all the same elements that I enjoy in fantasy, so we both rolled char's and tried playing for a bit. Within 2 days of trying that, the mud got hacked and evertime they fixed it, it would happen again. So, they decided to close it, in that time we both searched for another mud text game as good or better. A few weeks went by and I had not spoke to Murat for a few days and we ran into each other at school. For the past week Murat had been playing a game called Forsaken Lands. When I got home I looked it up and started playing, even with telenet I enjoyed playing.

Next thing you know, we got Justen, who plays here still but does not have a forum account, Stephen, who plays here still but does not have a forum account, Johnny Lee, who is no longer with us, Jeff, who is no longer with us since the mud closed when Viri left, Rebecca, who is no longer with us because her and Justen broke up, Jamie, who quit playing when she moved away, Russle, who quit due to family and lack of pk skill, Oog, and last but certainly not least Viledeception.

At one point in time there was 10 of us on, only Murat, Justen, and I pinned a char in 1.0, but we did have fun on our lowbies and would talk about it all the time at school. Come 2.0 only Murat, Justen, Oog, and Stephen played. When, 3.0 rolled around Viledeception suddenly became a pk powerhouse, Oog and I started hanging out all the time and got each other playing FL again, then we got Murat, Justen, and Stephen to come back. We all hardly have much time to play anymore, but when we do it is just like old times.

I tottally had my first pinn two days before the great 1.0 purge! I don't care if you do not think that matters, or that you never saw them!

some dude showed it to me at this lady named teea's house, in texas (2.0). I don't think i ever saw him again, but i owe him for showing me this great game.

what i was uncomfortable with? I only ever felt powerful once IG, as i usually get pk'd. i never got good at pk, either,i usually play FPS and RPGs, so..

but that one time when i stole everything in that guys inventory, and pried all his armor, i was walking on sunshine.

Ive told this story before... but basically...it was in high school... me, Killalou, and one of our boys were in the same french class... we been pretty good friends w/ each other since the 5th grade. So they were the ones who found it first and they were telling me about it... and in my immaturity and unsophisticated appreciation for goodness... i pretty much refused to give the whole thing a chance at all. I was too much into graphics to play a text based game... but then they kept talking more and more about it... and so i decided to give it a shot... i googled MUDs then went to TMC and went on a random one. Didn't like it so i decided to go through the list and saw at the top Aabahran which was the MUD that my friends were talking about... so i gave it a shot and been here since....

I know what your thinking... riveting story right... right? Well.. i decided to sell the rights to the story ... ive even put it into webcomic form. Just a sidenote...All my text was supposed to be orange... but the program just decided to color it whatever the flip it felt like... ah well. Like any good adaptation that is based on a true story... i've taken some... artistic liberties *grin*

A friend introduced me to a commercial MuD called MajorMud when I was about 14. I looked around at the countess other MuDs available to me and found ArcticMuD, Abandoned Realms, then Forsaken Lands. After I found Forsaken Lands I knew there was no need to find another.
