f0xx
Since it will appear on the character creation screen, I am partial to: Novice/Apprentice and Standard Exactly what I was thinking, since the new tier is "soft" form and no idea why what we have at the moment should be "hardcore"? It's not hardcore, it is "normal" ie the standard and new players should struggle to get into that normal mode. But yeah, I agree with malch, Standard/Normal and Novice/Soft or hell, even "easy" if you want.

Mudder
The one thing that I think Raarg pointed out to me, which I now agree, is that not everyone should or will ever become the ruthless(HC) player. This idea is not only to cater to the newer PKer but also that player that doesn't much like the harsh environment that is FL. This idea is supposed to expand our B-base and give our MUD something that every Mudder can enjoy, whether he is a hardcore PKer or RPer only. Naming the softcore mode something like, "Newbie mode" "Sissy Mode" "You must suck if you pick this!" is a deterrent all on it's own. Why bother coding this if we will be scaring away the people who might potentially use it? As an example. When we pick up a new game that seems cool for a game console. How many of you ever choose easy mode? How many choose hard? We all choose normal for the most part. Raarg's vision is that this becomes an alternative, not the norm. Make the ruthless mode(HC) sound hardcore! Make it sound like you could be so much better if you did this(because you could) but don't play down the softcore mode, just make it seem mundane by comparison. Malchaeius
I think I was taken the wrong way. This is an alternate tier and not a way of downplaying those who pick the other tier. Ruthless is fine, but in my suggestion of apprentice/novice it was to be a way to appeal to the newer player that this choice might be more palatable to them. I even like the idea of naming them Standard and Alternate. Just to have someway to make the point clear.

a-guitarist
Dead Voodoo Doll, it freaked me out for some reason too. I have firefox with Addblock plus, I just blocked the image. I really don't know why bothered me... but many people don't know you can block single images with ABP. a-g

Cephirus
Not to siderail this thread, but I think it is quite fitting for malch. Just sit back with a cup of tea, whilst his droogs (sp?) (read as demons) entertain him all the while he is entertaining the company of a couple of ladies.

Questioner
As I said before, the hardcore pk really pushes away a lot of opportunities for good rp. If someone asked what class they should make so they can rp a lot and not have to worry too much about being killed while trying to talk to someone, I would tell them to roll a healer. Pali
Any class can avoid combat and death without serious trouble. It's the player who keeps himself safe from surprise attacks, not the combo.
Raargant
FYI, the coding for this is already underway.

Evangelion
Yes, but if someone is new and asking that question, they're not going to know how or why they need to train their BMG to survive. And a BMG that isn't fully trained is a dead BMG.
Guest emp_newb
I do not care what anyone says, or what I have seen in pk, bmgs suck. I HATE that class. I have tried it several times to absolutely no success. I had a perfectly trained, wicked decked avian bmg T pandy, and I could not do ANYTHING with him. At all. f0xx
Yep, and that means that BMGs suck
Guest emp_newb
Only if it is you, or mudder that suck with a class is it then considered a suck class. I fully admit that bmgs are an awesome class, and have nasty amounts of potential power, I just cannot play them. Im more for either drawn out fights, or quick fights. Zerks, and Invokers for me! Ali_gmud
I know the class doesn't suck, there has been godly bmgs, IE. Ellikain/Poplin but there is just too many spells to keep a eye on and without using triggers and just using gmud, It's to difficult to keep all your spells up, make sure the mana situation doesn't get too low, but that's just me, I'm all for straight melee classes. They can swing as wildly as you get raped fighting someone and then return for a round two and rape them. And yes, a BMG realy needs to master ALL those awful spells and keep them casted. Even then you need to know what to use, when to use, and why you use it. BMG can play attriction. BMG can play Dispel, AFF-spell. BMG can play the malediction game ninja style. (Slow,Shrink,Rust,Thunderclap,Frost thing) All stats ailments. Their tactics can become quite complex. Slow a target, Shrink/Chill it. Then Blind once, and then again. The -dex and -STR can make it impossible for him to retrieve more Gyvels from his backpack. Try a Good Avian. You can heal fine and just worry about evils/neutrals.
