Whats wrong with falcon form? It's actually the best out of the 3...
Nothings wrong with it statistically. However I, and many others I believe, tend to outline a character BEFORE rolling it. Desc, backstory, things like that are all ready to go then its into the roller for some stats. Well to make say a Lycanthrop you have to keep rolling and lvling to 15 then delete then rerolling to get the wolf form.
Of course, as far as stats go, falcon is nice but for a zerker tiger is sick and bear compliments it VERY well imho.
Do you guys want to remove the were-abilities specifics or should I get out the red-marker? If people want to know this they can play and learn them.
You mightn't have known - and that's fine - now we are all on the page.
Lytholm.
My heart bleeds for the people who can't choose what form they want - boo hoo hoo hoo!!! Someone want to organise a healer pity party and you can all attend? Make sure you send me a note so I can come and PK you while you're at it...
Seriously - half the fun of playing a werebeast is not knowing what you are going to get and working out how to use it. Virigoth elminated the bug that allowed choice long ago.
Just look at people here:
'I'd choose THIS wereform for this race class, its sick!!'
'No, this one is better...'
'Man, I like THIS for so I can do THIS!!!'
Power players one and and all and this is exactly why it shouldn't be changed to accomdate you!!! You want to powerplay it - either go back to your non-random cookie cutter drow cleric builds or rank 437143854872390 werebeasts until you get what you want. Its call a price you have to pay for a reason - that is, you have to pay it.
No one seems to be able to show werebeats being underpowered(and I don't think they are) so I don't see a real argument for giving them a powerup. I've had a lvl 50 werebeast - and I have to say there are some real advantages to the forms no matter which you are using.

I agree for playing a werebeast just for its form. But I dont think you read my post. I said for the ability at 50 for a werebeast to be able to transform into other forms besides its primary form. This will give a bit more rp flavor as well perhaps make people want to play them. I also ask for the ability to control auto-transformation because transform against non-mage classes is oh sooo very dangerous. I want to control if and when I am able to transform. Going back to the first idea, I dont think it hurts balance of werebeast if they are able to choose what they want to transform into at 50.
I could say a lot on this - but I'll try to keep it brief:
-
I had no trouble using my lvl 50 were-falcon zerk. Certainly no more than my giant zerks. If you're comfortable with the fact you will fight some battles in forms and some not then its not that hard.
-
Bear in mind my melee defense situation is different as a were-zerk.
-
For this to be toned up there really should be something lacking - not 'its not cool enough' or 'its not as easy as I would hope.' As it stands I find it hard to find anything lacking at all with a werebeast on any class. Stats are good, no vuln, form for advantage in certain situation, play as 'human' in other situations and you give litte up to a human of the same class.
I don't think the dicussion of what should/shouldn't be done has any merit until someone can show that there is a reason werebeasts are lacking. Simply put - they aren't.
Why don't we see more? They can be what - warriors, zerks, rangers and druids? 90% of the pbase thinks giants are the way to go melee and wouldn't pick anything else - espeically not anything that might require some real finesse like managing transform. Druids aren't played a lot anyway - they aren't exactly a beginner thing with quest and yearning.
If anything, I'd be more inclined to make the argument that werebeasts are not previlant because of the class selection - though I don't believe they should be opened up into other classes either.
They are a nice race with some cool perks and bonuses that has a LOT of RP potential. They fit well within FL and I really don't think they need to be touched.

Since we are on the topic of werebeasts, I'd like to bring up the old suggestion of custom, staff approved, transformation descriptions. An idea which everyone liked as I recalled.
They can be ranger, berserker and druid.
On the topic of werebeast classes I actually think that perhaps one more class should be open to them.
Bard: Look at it this way, really all the were-animals have 'songs'. The wolf howls at the moon, for the tiger just think of midnight when the neighborhood cats start crooning (and if that doesn't work watch a cartoon where they do), the falcon could be rp'd as a 'songbird'. Well I guess with the exception of bear until I mention this...Marvin Gaye-werebeast bear bard.

I still dont know what are are talking about in 3. No one is asking for them to be 'toned up'. All I am suggestion is that instead of 'transform' at 50 you can 'transform ' to give them some flavor. I dont see how this will 'tone up' the race, care to explain? I also dont see a problem with this giving that transform at 50 with 100% as a pitiful 1/2 success rate that waste 50 mana success or fail. As fo vuln werebeast DO have a vuln that vuln is silver. Ever examined what material HOLY weapons are made of? I'll give you a wild guess. Werebeast are the only neutral race not able to exploit undead weakness. This was done until I brought that attention to the imms and the holy rod material was change. I kind of find it funny that the so called 'chosen of gaia' which just embodies life cant really fight the anthesis of life. Maybe thats just me.
As for playing as a human, you are correct that is what I basically do. But then again what is the point of choosing the race and getting the extra exp when im just a human unless in the 'right conditions'.
Humans get 21 str 20 int 20 wis 20 dex 20 con
werebeast get 21 str 19 int 19 wis 21 dex 20 con
so basically the only difference is that werebeast get +1 dex while losing -1 int/wis.
Hardly the bargin, just food for thought.
Uhhh... just gotta put it out there... werebeasts don't need anything. being able to pick different forms for different fights would be a huge advantage unless you put a redik timer on it something like a couple years IG
Just thinking and I realize FL is loosely based on D&D not using it as the basis of everything but hasn't it always been in all types of RP, whatever were-form you are whether it be tiger, bird, cow, dog, lamp, etc....that's the only form you ever had and not just a crazy metamorphical creature that can turn itself into whatever? It'd kinda be like looking at old myths of werewolves and saying they can turn into salmon when they chose...just seems...iffy

LA is hitting on the amount of versatility that would give a beast. You could pick and choose your benefits based on foe, size for some, dex for others etc etc.
In FL Versatiliy of that nature is of itself quite a boost in strength.
As fo vuln werebeast DO have a vuln that vuln is silver.
they arent vuln, just eq restricted from my experience.
Actually, I was under the impression that their vuln was the same as Elf, Drow, and stormie in that a thief, ninja, or bard has a way of hitting that vuln for damage.
Though it would add some spice to the werebeast by letting them pick what form to take....I do think it would be a little overpowered, so I do not agree with making that change. Yes, it would be nice to at least decide what form we will get so that you do not have to delete over and over till you get what you want.....but, people will do that, so I do not see a problem in making transform a selectable skill that can be RP'd as a ritual one undergoes. shrug You can RP just about anything..... On the topic of allowing control over auto-transform....I agree with a whole heart! I do not see the connection with rage or survival in this case....yes, one could argue that the animal comes out when your life is in danger....but, in most cases that only puts you in harms way....not help...... Just my 2 cents worth on these topics....
