Talcian
Something possible for the website that might help grab new players: I remember awhile back there was a "who's online" link. Clicking it would show a snap shot of the who list. I understand that this could be abused- players not logging on because certain people are on and whatnot, BUT at the same time if I were a new player and I saw Talcian- Archdevil of the Rift, King of Aabahran or something similar it might make me a little more inclined to check it out. Also, bumperstickers with a cool quote and the web address and google ads maybe. Possibly work in partnership with some other mud? Maybe somehow send out advertisements to local comic book/ card game stores? Also, to go along with the bumperstickers- window stickers as an alt. This is exactly the function that made me start playing. Who did I see? Zaen. I know some people remember that name.
Talcian
Also regarding t-shirts and merchandise, if we raised a little money and had some of these ordered, we could give them to local comics stores etc and have them give out a free shirt when someone buys here. If they would be willing that is.
Guest emp_newb
dude, **** giving it away. Ill def buy a bumper sticker and shirt. I would love to party in a shirt that says my adeptus suit is being dry cleaned.
Talcian
lol, agreed. But giving shirts and bumperstickers away may reach out to potential players that otherwise wouldn't start playing because your adeptus suit is being dry cleaned... screw yours, they want their very own suit in the dry cleaner- and so will all their buddies! MadCowDisease
I say that retention depends on our willingness to reroll characters to help noobies. As a noobie myself, I have to say, this learning curve is steep. If I didn't have a friend from work in this game to help me with info, i'd have given up. so i guess what i am saying is, bring people you know in. reroll something to help them. case solved on many levels. low-level PK will decline. I know that at least I never PK in a group (as a lower-mid level). Why? Because it is the gear you want. Do you really want to have to split it? Or risk that the other person will turn on you? As the classes broaden in the mid and upper levels, PK will happen steadily more and more, gradually involving them, rather than throwing them to the lions right away. End result? Lower learning curve, same content, more players. All in one. What good is advertising if the environment doesn't change?
