Dedric's HoF Biography

Born to a minor clan in the Dragon Teeth mountains, Dedric was an exceedingly unlikely man to rise to any amount of influence. Among fire giants, he was neither smart nor strong. Lacking such natural endowments, Dedric wasn't even able to hold his own within the clan. Abandoning his home, he was forced to take up new clan name, Toshnak. He was the only member.

The young giant eventually found his way to Val Miran, which at that time was a disorderly haven for outcasts. Lacking any alternatives, Dedric voluntered himself to the local guild of warriors. He was an unmotivated fighter of subpar skill. He was routinely beat in training and was a shining example of how not to be. It was during those dark days that Dedric had his first experience in real combat. The rising Yekosavik, who would later become an infamous vampire of the Savant tower, brought the fledging Dedric to his knees with almost no contest. Further disillusioned, Dedric nevertheless trudged on with his life.

A notably perceptive Warmaster, Sslanthi, was the first to see any real potential in Dedric Toshnak. It was he who first tried to recruit the mediocre warrior into the halls of the Warmaster. However, Dedric was well aware of his utter lack of ability and had no desire to meet his doom at the hands of the Savants anytime soon. Dedric's fear of magi was greater than his fear of Sslanthi and thus the fire giant refused the offer. It was soon after that meeting that fate would turn its eye upon the warrior.

Raaght, the deity lord of Order, had been missing for ages. Finally, his most famous deputy, Streantian, took it upon himself to correct the world as he saw fit. Unable to act directly, Streantian instead searched among the mortals to strengthen the Iron Fist of Raaght, also known as the cabal Justice. Unfortunately, there were none within the lands willing to join such a group. In desperation, Streantian turned to the pathetic Dedric. Dedric knew that to join was a certain death sentence. The dreaded assassin cult Conclave, the most powerful and dangerous group in the world, had made it their primary duty to supress its moral opposite, Justice.

It was fitting then that as Justice and Conclave were moral opposites, Dedric and the powerful Conclave leaders of the time, Gorath, Rhovhard, and Calandra, were opposites in skill and power. For reasons unbeknownst to the world, Dedric decided to accept Streantian's offer. Streantian knew that Dedric was completely unfit for duty and ordered him to train his skills. Eager to please his new master, Dedric did attempt to do so. After a short time of watching Dedric's pitiful efforts at improvement and sensing the dire state of the world, Streantian simply inducted the fire giant warrior, without completing any meaningful training.

His first task was to revive the old headquarters based in Falen Dara and establish a base of operations. Dedric had little time for administrative duty as the Conclave soon got wind of the newly recruited officer. It was Rhovhard who would be the first to test the fiery Dedric in a trial by ice. It was a massacre. There was no way Dedric could face the infamous monk in combat and was met with defeat at every corner, even under the direct supervision and advisement of Streantian. Everyone knew the officer of Justice was no match for the elite cult of assassins. This is, perhaps, why Dedric succeeded.

The cult served no other than Virigoth. Virigoth, the servant of the Nameless, was disgusted by Dedric's weakness. Every easy victory dulled the killing edge of Conclave. Virigoth quickly moved to amend the problem. He manifested in front of Dedric, not to kill him, but to imbue him with a gift. A gift of a single word, "Fire." This was the turning point. The flicker of giant's life erupted into a flame overnight. When Rhovhard caught onto Dedric's trail once again, he expected another easy victory. Dedric, empowered with an unparalled tenacity nurtered by a life of defeat and failure, turned the tide of the battle and scored a major success, the first in his life and the first in the history of Justice. He had captured the right hand man of Gorath, an elder of Conclave.

Taken to the newly erected prison in Val Miran, the utterly shocked Rhovhard could neither believe nor accept his live capture by such a man. The dreaded assassin met his end in a Val Miran jail cell. The flexible monk had contorted his body far enough to choke himself with his own shackles. The end of Rhovhard catapulted Dedric to fame. Shortly thereafter, Gorath too mysteriously disappeared. Justice finally firmly established, Streantian named Dedric the Martyr of Law, Leader of Justice. Thus began the golden age of Justice.

With the aid of his new deputies, the elves Alome and Gorindar, Dedric was able to declare and enforce martial law in the three cities of Falen Dara, Val Miran, and Miruvhor. His administrive skill grew daily. He set the guidelines for legalized dueling, which are still observed by the Warmasters today. He also devised new strategies for the ensarement of criminals. After foiling a particularly devious Conclave plot, he appointed Fayette to maintain a safe supply of meat to Val Miran. Dedric later reformed the guard's training program, to help better combat assassins. The Martyr's martial strength developed in turn. From a mediocre warrior he had truly become the Iron Fist of law. Yekosavik, who had terrorized Dedric before, by now had become no match for the fire giant. Likewise, even the most reputable warrior of the age, the Warmaster leader Trakanon, also a fire giant, could not resist the law by Dedric's hand. Clavrus, Drendyn, Xavius, and hundreds of others were all on Dedric's execution list.

For a crowning achievement, Dedric discovered the whereabouts and subsquently rescured his lord Raaght, who had been held captive in another dimension while simutanously banishing the demonically corrupted Knight maji Delvyn. Endowed with the Lord of Order's blessing and a plentiful corps of officers, Dedric had reached the peak of his career. It was said that during this height, a man could sleep soundly anywhere witin Justice's jurisdiction with absolutely no fear. However, eventually a shadow would make its way into Aabahran once more.

That shadow went by the name of Maleki. This dark shaman, the most famous in all history, would quickly become Dedric's archrival. Maleki was quick to rout the forces of Justice and the battles between Dedric and his counterpart were epic in magnitude. However, the scars and injuries of his younger life began to take their toll and it was Maleki who proved to be the greater. Faced with utter defeat and the destruction of Justice, Dedric signed a deal. He formed a secret dark pact, witnessed by Virigoth, in which Dedric allowed Maleki to roam free. Without Dedric to oppose him, Maleki had become above the law. Ironically, the Martyr would survive while every other member of his force was picked off, one by one.

Dedric spent the second half of his three quarter-century career as leader of Justice in traitorous service to Virigoth. Upon his voluntary retirement and on the verge of death due to his extreme age, Dedric betrayed the world one final time. He struck yet another deal with Virigoth in exchange for more time. Virigoth had crafted a new artifact, the first soul cube, and granted it to the retired Iron Fist. Dedric thereby become Dedric the Chained. Dedric didn't understand the significance of this cube. He didn't care; it was a small price to pay for prolonged life. It would be the later Hersnaie who would make the soul cubes well known. Dedric brought the Shades upon Aabahran, which would drive the world into darkness for nearly a century. Justice was eradicated and would not recover until the psionicist Gorthae revived it.

In disgust, Dedric hid with the Toshnak clan deep below the fortress of S'handor, to the north of Miruvhor. He spent many years there and his family grew. Yet, time had come to claim him once again and he surfaced to behold a new world. Streantian was dead. Dedric knew that his own death had come. When he was young, Dedric had feared the Savants. In the end, that fear was not unfounded. One such maji, Clariana, noted the return of the world famous warrior. She arranged a private meeting with him in Miruvhor. Dedric, satisfied with the knowledge that there were other strong Toshnaks to carry on his name, finally met his fate. Days later, the decaying body of Dedric was found near the west gate by a beggar. It was unceremoniously dragged, stripped, and abandoned in the tainted sands. Years later, in honor his achievements and glory, a street was named after him during the founding of Rheydin. His body and soul may very well still be hidden somewhere in the Forsaken Lands.
