'well. there arent many rooms where you can camo AND hide. so the different classes could see them randomly.
quite a few actually.

why not just upgrade the archer rangers so that they are more like, i dont know...Archers?
If the point was to have an entirely new ranged-combat-based class, why can't they throw?

throw for the purposes of FL isnt really ranged. its kinda of like a vuln hitting kick, doesnt really go past the immediate room.

Because instead of having one gimped ranger path there would then be two
I think with the proper skill add ons, a straight up archer could be viable (see my concussive shot post a page back). They would obviously need a lot more specialty skills. If you can hide and camo, you are god...overpowered in my opinion. I don't actually think either one fits an archer class...I mean, where you gonna stash that 7-8 foot longbow?
I dont think they would work all that well in game. FL is too big. A good chaser/runner would be able to stay out of combat for a LONG time and just wail on his enemy however they desired. Their only real weakness would be anything that could hide/camo and get the jump on them. The archer would have to be really bad at melee to compensate.
Some say fired weapons is unrealistic while fighting, dual wielding, two handed weapon using, shield using etc but think about it... A tick is a game hour and you have around 6-8 rounds of combat a tick. The slight lag we see between rounds is actual minutes in FL time, which would give someone armed and fighting a chance to pop off a shot, throw a dagger, cast a spell, etc. Also rooms are not all the same size so you could imagine your character running around in a forest preparing to cast a spell or recite a scroll between rounds in one room.
