A Fond Farewell

I've done this once or twice before, but I think this is for real this time.

It's been a long run here at the Forsaken Lands, but unfortunately, a

number of factors are forcing me to take what will be an indefinite leave

of absence from the MUD.

I love this game with all of my heart. Anyone who questions my dedication

to this MUD clearly doesn't know me at all. I've been here for eight years.

I've built an area for this MUD. I've donated well over two hundred dollars

to the continued upkeep of the server/forums/Implementor's sanity. And

I have never regretted a single moment of it.

However, we come to the present. I am a sophomore in college - I have

39 credits currently. In the next six semesters, I intend to graduate with

an undergraduate degree in both English and Political Science, as well as

a Master's degree in Secondary Education. So basically I'm going to

attempt to complete two years of undergraduate work and one year

of graduate work in the span of two years.

I have no time to play. I have no will to play. And I don't have a

connection stable enough to play on. So it only makes sense that I will

choose to focus on my schoolwork.

Now, in regards to my characters.

Alanna. Well, I guess it's long past time I threw in the towel on this one.

Made her for the purpose of applying for Psion, and got sidetracked by

the plot and Dilorry browbeating me into applying for Herald. The one

and only work I've ever gotten into a tomb is the Ode to Gradrel - had

fun improvising that one on the spot.

Grump. This character was a pretty big success, for his brief time. When

I came to school, the connection became shoddy and unstable - I lagged

to the point where I lost a battle simply because I would spend five rounds

watching myself die before command went through. It is incredibly

frustrating trying to play a competitive PK character on a crappy

connection.

Props go out to a couple of people, though the props I should make are

too numerous for any one thread.

Wikley - You were an incredible asset to Alanna's early development. It is

a true shame that we never got to expand on our early RP, but suffice

to say, it made Alanna the character she was.

Dilorry - You were the motivation that led me to my first Herald ever. I

can't thank you enough for pushing me in the right direction.

Isadora - Thanks for the shot at Herald.

Quoap - You have an incredible drive for RP, and I applaud your efforts.

They don't go unnoticed, I assure you.

Anyone who hit on me as Alanna - You're all creepers. But it's impossible

to play a female elf without half of the male population of the MUD getting

aroused, so I simply leave you with the fond hope that you all get laid

eventually.

I love you guys to death, and rest assured, I will stalk the forums now

and again. But I have long overstayed my welcome as an active player.

My era has ended - I leave this place in the capable hands of its

Implementors, and with that, would like to offer a few non-character

props.

Zhokril - You are one of the most plainly visible immortals. I see you on

all the time, and I applaud your efforts to remain available for players to

get in touch with and interact with.

Raargant - You pay a hefty bill for the enjoyment of so many. Words

cannot express the gratitude I feel to you personally, and I hope others

will come to feel the same.

The New-Crew - Don't let the old balls get you down. Keep coming up

with ideas for improvement. Someday you'll be running this place, so

stick with it.

Malchaeius - You, sir, are a god. Your patience, passion, and desire to

see this game succeed have led to an incredibly successful endeavor

over the last few years. I wish you continued good luck and health,

and hope that your reign of terror is long and fruitful.

It's hard to say goodbye to a game that you've spent countless

thousands of hours playing. However, such a time comes for all of

us. I wish you the best of luck, and as my travel plans continue to

develop, I hope I can get to see some of the faces behind the handles.

How will we survive without all the Bali jokes?

Guess we'll have to switch to Pali jokes. Damn.

Stay hidden, study hard & ++++++ASSASSINATE++++++ your graduation.

Good luck. Be well.

Just because Bali and Pali rhyme does not mean we should be equated on the worthy-of-ridicule scale. ;)
