Current plot....

Malchaeius or anyone have another event planned? Last sunday I think was the last date that was mentioned as a possibility, and I haven't seen any post from the big-cheese in about a week now.

Don't know about anyone else, but I've enjoyed the plot thus far immensely (yes, the torments are a biznitch....but hey, that's what they are supposed to be lol) and am looking forward to seeing how the story progresses and what will become of the Orb...

It's like crack and damnit I need my fix.

The heralds did a news papre quite a while ago (mid 2.0) I think the only reason I remember is me and HBwillie had thieves going that made the paper hehe.

We have got to do something to attract (and keep) new players. It's disgusting to log in at 8pm EST on the weekend see 5 people online. I think the highest I've seen is 17. I'd put our average somewhere around 9-12.

Current events and immortal presence = 2 biggest pbase growth tools...people want to feel part of something. They can get mob killing and quests in any MUD, what is going to want to make them come and stay at FL? The game is ALOT of fun @ 50....but no one wants to just grind levels and get there in a MUD they looks stagnant.

It takes work. And no I'm not just talking about the Immortals. We, the pbase, need to invest the time in voting. We have to get the MUD into the top 20. Yes, top10 is nice...but the point is making sure it's on the first page. No one is going to go try a mud in the 21-40 link. It's already saying "Oh, let's try a MUD that wasnt good enough to make it into the 1-20 page"

Once the traffic is here, we need to be able to keep them here. Mya brought up a good point. Even though there are tons of notes flying around in game, they are pretty boring and long; a chore to read. We should have a rolling Current Events sticky thread where new player can come and see what the current events and plots are, so they can get involved.

IMM driven plots are great....but again, we the pbase cannot rely on them to the game for us. Likewise, the IMMs should give more creative control to the players with a little bit less of "meet my standards" viewpoint. If the players can actually once again look at this game as a world with people (and their lives) in it and create day to day real RP....we would see a rise in the pbase.

When was the last time there was a big wedding in game? A leg showing-off contest? So many player inspired things that have happened there that people just seem to have not taken an interest in, or maybe the IMMs have not support and driven.

Meh, it's late and I've been drinking and I am rambling......this MUD is amazing and has all of the potential that it had in it's glory days. I don't think there isn't a single person here who doesn't want to see 30-50 players online like it was back in the day. It is very possible to get back to that point. This codebase is solid, the quest races are intriguing, and we still have some very high caliber RPers and PKers to give anyone a challenge that would come.

What we do not have is excitement. There isn't always something going on. People come here and say "Oh, look....another newbie school. 5 players online. Yeah...it's a dud." I personally won't go anywhere else because I am dedicated and loyal to this MUD....but I can't just bite my tongue either. The pbase has dwindled in the past few years and when this was brought up in the past the resounding retort was just "Shut up, everythings okay, it will get better just wait and see".....well it's been a couple years and things don't seem to be going anywhere. It's not up the IMMs alone to make anything happen. It takes work to build something....so unless I'm the only person here who wants to see the pbase grow, I really think we all need to put an effort in to making sure we remain in the top20 and advertise in other ways as well. Plus start to really RP the world and our characters, and not just wait for the next Gear/Desolation trip.

edit: Just say in a 30 day month, if just TEN people voted twice every day, that would be 600 votes. 20th place only has ~460 votes.....I know we have way more than 10 active forum users. Obviously not everyone uses the forum everyday...but I am sure there are 10 people who read the forum each day, same people or not. Absolutely no excuse, except just not caring enough to think about voting, that we are not always in the top20

You one of the few who stopped playing entirely because of this?

Yep. I didn't specifically make a highly survivable, food creating, hard to actually secure a Pkill with character to get ganged by torments and the bazillion evils, starve three quarters of the time, and watch people get away while the torments hold me up because I'm not willing to give up my RP to get a mark.

KRins

Get lots of Beer Barrels inside a elven backpack. That takes care of hunger.

Get AFF saves, i "think" those help bypassing the Torments initial attack that corrupts you.

For living longer walk around with a Cursed-Blessed Polearm is Paladin, Bleesed Staff if Cleric.

Hoo, Z i do sometimes read the RP logs. For example the ones about the Zaar betrayal.

Also, I THINK, TMS resets every 15 days. And it's hard to vote every 12 hours.
