All the qclass/race information you know. Go ahead and just post it here. But don't tell the imms. :D I don't want pms or anything... to much work. Just post it right in here. Be as specific and thorough as you can. Quests too. Throw those in.

:D

Hehe, I'm stupid, I'm stupid.

I just couldn't stand seeing that year old 'fired weapons' thread.

To be serious, IMHO, most of that info should be available. This is neither nazi germany nor china. Censorship doesn't cut it, and would be surprised it has lasted if I didn't know most people use aim and notepad-trading for most of it.

Frankly, I pity new people.

Being new and not knowing how to fight a vampire because the skills are hush hush doesn't add intrigue anymore. It just adds frustration since players with friends or code knowledge can get a skillset list easy enough but new players don't have access to that. Liches... yes, it is interesting... but not any info that is in the released code. (yes, things have been tweaked but very few things are brand new)

I am not saying cram the info down peoples throats, either. (SPOILER) is a good way to avoid divulging something to people who do not want to know it. I am just saying that Stalin would be proud of the current attitude towards the information.

You know, I probably should just stay quiet, and I apologize if I've overstepped some boundaries here. I just experience censorship every day where I am, and seeing it as the status-quo here... well.. I do consider people here old friends, or good acquaintances at least... sort of sigh-inducing.

It just makes me feel similar to this.

Shrug

If people want answers I will always give it to them on nearly anything, they just have to ask. (obviously some info is beyond "taboo" on the forums and I'd never discuss it.)

BUT

If the owners of this game wish the information to remain unsaid on THIS FORUM. That is THEIR RIGHT. And it would be terribly bad manners to ignore the rules of the people who generously provide this to us for free?

Yes?

Absolutely.

However, it has pretty well been proven that any rule made by administration of this game will be changed if proper reasoning is applied in favor of the change.

Thus far, this hasn't been an ongoing rule IMO, but an ongoing problem that has given breed to some very problematic players and attitudes in a similar manner that prohibition in the usa gave rise some very problematic individuals. In the end, if people don't like or believe in a rule, they will break it with no regard at all.

Now there exists three kinds of people. The very loud advocate of censored information (usually the one who will tell you to harden up or go learn it yourself in the driest abrasive way possible) that makes new people leave. There is also the rogue who will go around and badmouth the game and the admin because they feel the rule is unfair but then in turn are silenced... also causing new people to not only leave but not begin here. Finally the passive veteran who will just ask friends the info they need at the time and not consider it bad because THEY are veterans... also unfair to new people.

I hate to say it, but there is not one veteran in this game right now that has not in one way or another used OOC methods to gain in game knowledge. Not a single one.

- Halloween madness rolling up different classes to learn things. OOC and WRONG! How dare you tell a newbie to go rank a cleric to learn the divine intervention, if you yourself just waited til halloween madness to learn. You learned freely, so should they. They shouldn't have to be lucky enough to be around at a specific time of the year. That is just daft.

- Test ports. My cousin ran one, you've probably run one, too. What did you learn when you were made a vampire on a test port? A psi? A druid? Probably not something you should have.

- Imming ... uh huh. I've imm'ed on a mud before. I know that information is passed around like candy, and that is not a bad thing. You need to know certain secrets to properly handle the pbase. The thing is, do you forget it when you are no longer an Imm? Probably not.

- Those damned text documents floating around. You know the ones. The way through gear, or all the rare items in the game, or the others. There are nearly 50 of them that I have seen over my time here. You would be surprised at the authors of one or two of them. Same people who will tell you that they disagree with giving out the same info on the forum. I guess it just makes them look good.

In the end, people will always break rules they deem are not good rules... just like in prohibition. The above has proven both legal and illegal ways to do so. Unfortunately, the ONLY people who do not have access to them are the new players, usually. Unless of course you drafted your friend and you just want to give them a head start. Of course it won't hurt to tell them, just don't tell anyone else... right?

Sigh.

So...I might actually one day find out what all those crazy skills do since my PK is too poor, my quest knowledge too holey, and my general writing skills too shoddy to learn these things on my own? Bright ray of sunshine on a cloudy day...

SATAN IN '08! Why pick the lesser evil?!?!

Im all for information sharing, but somethings I STILL believe shouldnt be given away.

Divine interventions? Grey area, they really could affect the effectiveness of a character... BUT I remember the first cleric I rolled up, had no idea what the DI was and how AWESOME it was finding out.

When you buy a new game for the xbox, do you go out and get a walk through straight away and play it as you read? I doubt it. And I wouldnt propose the same for FL either.

I will admit, there are some things I know about this game I will probably NEVER share with another person, but thats because it gives me the edge. It took me 100% chance and a crap load of time to figure it out. By rights I've earned it, but that doesnt mean I dont take the time to teach people deso when I take them through, or show them how to get other eq or where stuff is in other areas.

Grey area... Hmmmm

That's exactly why I usually stay out of the info hoarding threads. I don't see why anyone would want to be given the info. I found all of the shrines, every one of them, pretty much by myself. I LOVE that feeling and am very proud of myself for it. I wouldn't want that taken away by knowing some guy just walked me around and told me the location of each.

Well, you know, I guess it just comes down to personal preference. Since I've been where I've been and live where I live, and also am an avid history buff... I am firmly against censorship in any and all forms.

I actively protest for mp3 and video piracy. I attend demonstrations for a free Tibet when I can, and I donate a lot of my time and money to peaceful resolutions in China.

When it comes down to it, this is just a very small thing since this is only a game... but a cog in the wheel of a much larger ideal. It is political, and at this juncture I am going to leave my point be and let it fade to obscurity as this is not a political site.

This, I agree with.

The secrecy in FL has made it so that after years of playing theres still more for me to discover.
