KRins
I have no clue how this happened, but sometime between when I took a nap this afternoon and when I woke up just now, my computer caught something. My IE homepage has been changed, my IE sometimes just randomly stops working (stops loading the current page, won't start loading another page, won't close regularly, have to close it out from the task manager.), and I can't go directly to any webpage from a search engine, it takes me through like 4 random pages then goes to another obscure search engine. On top of that my computer won't let AVG anti-spyware, Spybot S&D, HiJackThis, or any other anti-spyware program run. Anyone have any suggestions? To make this a lot more difficult, I can't find whatever CD I need to reformat my hard drive.

Jairoth
Assuming you have tried safe mode to run your scans. Assuming you have looked at msconfig for suspicious things. Assuming you have checked Add/Remove Programs for suspicious things. You are screwed. System restore.

Kyzarius
if the problem is just with IE, you can reset IE to run with no addons or plugins.

Icor
Once you fix IE, get Firefox. And then make Firefox your default browser. Then burn IE in a fire.

yxlist
I had a similar problem from a horrible virus like 2 weeks ago. I had to use a system restore point from earlier in the month and I downloaded and ran a free virus thing called SUPERantivirus. Thing is the best anti virus i've found, better than avast, better than avg, better than spybot.
KRins
Foxfire really cleared it up. I know it is still lurking in my system, but it doesn't do anything noticeably lame. My firm belief in IE has gone the way of my netscape love as a child.

Murat
Usually AVG protects very well. Firefox 3 ftw. Perhaps its time to lay off the porn?
KRins
I think I actually got it when I was rewatching Lost episodes on surfthechannel.com. Never ever go to that website. It has great tv series for free online..but I'm pretty sure it is as virus-ridden as my roommate's last girlfriend.
Grumpy
Nice site for dl episodes, I've looking for something like this. I'll make sure to access it from a safe system.
Icor
Avast! Anti-Virus is a very good piece of software... and its free. Does a great pre-boot scan that murders viruses on your hard drive before they can get running.

I-Brake-4-Minotaurs
MalwareBytes (dumb name I know) is probably one of the better spy/malware removal tools. Also CCleaner is a very good program to run after you've cleaned everything up. It'll scan through your registry and remove most of the defunct entries and what not left over from all the crap.
