WarriorCleric
The reason why I don't believe that chkdsk will work, or that fixing windows will work is because he has reformated this system before and the problem presists. Chayesh
Sorry...I must have missed that he reformatted in his original post.
Ex-D&Der
I saw where he said that, but it sounded a little vague, so I wanted to be sure. You might also make sure that the drive is seated properly. That business about taking 30 to 45 seconds before anything happens in Word and in other situations sounds like a hardware problem, especially if you hear anything unusual going on with the drive. At any rate you should make sure you have a backup ASAP because the drive could be on its last legs.

Goomf
Trash it and get a mac.
krounoi
Yeah, I am not sure on notebooks, but if the cable connection isn't good, you will start to get very intermitent, and often conflicting errors. I would open her up and make sure the harddrive is still connected properly.
Warpnow
Trash it and get a mac. Yea, then spend the next 10 years of your life paying it off, only to not be able to do things you may want to do, or have the ability to update it without selling your organs off. Warpnow
Very true. I am a bit active in local video producation projects, where everyone uses a mac and no one knows how to use them outside the two programs they use: Final Cut Pro, Photoshop. I listen to them rant on about how macs are the only machines you can edit on. However, I was recently privellidges enough to enter a multi million dollar video editing machine...get this, you edit a dial on the pc by clicking and moving it...the level on the other side of the room moves to adjust *drool* and they used athlon 64 dual core 4000s. Which makes me rest my case that PCs can compete with macs...but unlike with Macs, they don't only sell the expensive ones.
