I also really hate people who pick on healers.
And healers who come up with outrageous excuses to PK.

Healers should be able to gate to undead, vampires, and liches... IMO...
Iconz - Will now refer to himself as Ero-sennin...
It would be too easy to hunt them then. WAY too easy.
Heh... it wasnt that easy to hunt undead back in the day... wasnt gate depended on the person's saves? In which case the ones that were well dressed had a bit of a buffer.... anyway... it would promote healers fighting their undead enemies anyway...
Ero-Sennin - Misses the days when he would drop in to say hello to vampires...
Do they need it?
Heh, promote healers fighting their undead enemies.
The large majority of Healers already find plenty of excuses to fight everyone else possible.
Aside from being overpowered, its completely unnecessary. Finding an undead is the only hard part of hunting them as a healer. Almost impossible to die otherwise.
I think Viri approached the issue wrong... the problem w/ gate wasnt that people were gating to PCs... its that people were gating to non-undeads and attacking them... or gating to non-undeads to report their location to others... they were using it offensively against the wrong targets. So the solution shouldnt be to make it only work against mobs... the solution is to make it only be an offensive tool against those that it was meant to be an offensive tool against... undead. So do they need it? They had it before... and it was only a major problem due to abuse... so yes... i think they need it. I did like the fact that he made it so that you couldnt gate in combat anymore... that was a bit strong...
I do like the idea of a nogate type thing where people can choose if they can be gated to.. cuz another way that gate should be used is for healers to gate to friends...
Iconz - gruff voice Just cuz I... LOVE MY HEALERS... I shed blood.. FOR MY HEALERS... whenever i shout... WHERE MY HEALERS... All i wanna hear is.... RIGHT HERE MY HEALER!
Overpowered? What is going on here. Healers are benevolent against all living beings, technically speaking (aside from RP stuff, but even then they cannot be aggressive). Undeads, Liches, Vampires and Demons are unliving beings that should be hunted by them since they have the tools to do so. I think that gate could be set to allow gating to non-engaged PCs and could not be used in combat. If the Healer is abusing it, OUTCAST him. That is a harsh lesson and it should stem any problems. There is no reason to gimp Healers against their enemies just because a few broke a general rule.
Perhaps we should give people who've died the (Ghost) flag? Then healers could gate to good or neutrals (or just goods) who have the flag on them?
Why is it needed? Healers don't need more edge on undeads. They can easily get to the corpses of dead people. Need = zero.
On a side note, demons are NOT unliving. ![]()
Yeah, for a good long while now they've been banned from killing Demons. Back in 1.0 I'm almost positive they were allowed to kill them aggressively, but it's been changed. As for them being able to gate to Undeads and such I think it would be a bit too strong for even a Healer since a Healer can virtually tool over an Undead and the likes harder than any other race. A nogate command would be nifty to have, but it's really not necessary.

Exactly. Most healers who 'don't want' to PK don't. They can be found hiding in towns or anywhere else when undeads are on.
Then we have the healers who do wnat to fight - and like Calron said - players are all too good at finding any and all excuses to fight anyone who isn't undead. Gate was taken away for a godo reason - MASS abuse. It wasn't one player or character. It was many, many, many.
If this change is made in less than a day a paladin/good cleric/some other goodie will be bearing down on a NEXUS, remove their 'nogate' status and have hte healer gate to them and then they will both attack. Players wlil abuse this - I'm sure we can all name the current 'healer abuser' player in the pbase. I don't think we need to promote more of this.
If healers and to fight undeads, its not that hard to find them. Someone said Despiser could find you within 15min no matter where you hid in the realms. Its not different for any of the vets - once you know how to conduct a fast area by area search across Aabrahan you can find anyone.

This is a hilarious argument. Gating overpowered. I must have missed the era of aggressive healers, because I can't recall any point where I saw it often misused without punishment. I stand by my argument that Outcasting as a punishment works better than gimping a spell that serves a simple purpose. Considering it factors saves and location and the cost of the spell and to a lesser degree, its lag, I cannot see it as overpowered. As I said, just spring a trap on the Healer in question and they will learn the hard way for scouting. If they are aggressive, note an IMM for breach of RP. The spell is meant to get a Healer to someone in need of healing. I can't see how that is such a big deal, as it wasn't back in 1.0 and 2.0, that I remember. In fact, the Savants of 1.0 put Gate to shame.

I've stood with a gang and had a healer gate to me - three of us unloaded on the dirt bag and guess what, they still got away. The class is too survivable to have a spell that just takes them to you so they can beat on you, gate to the crab and cure in safety and gate back to you.
No thanks.
I have been a.... the word victim comes to mind but its not quite fitting (I've butcherd many healers in my times, so I'm not really the victim of them
), of gate being abused. It sucks. Why did the healer constantly gate to my duergar? I attacked him. Guess what, I was evil, he was good and I beat on him and then took off when it wasn't going anywhere. Gate to me. I get two areas away, gate to me, I get 5 areas away, gate to me. Magic resist with saves and he still managed it through spamming. Did I die - no, I hiked off ot a 'nogate' room and quit.
The spell has been badly abused and I, for one, do not want to go back to those days just so in 1 years the IMMs can change it back to how it is now.
No gating to players. Healers have survived long enough without this and seem to be doing fine. They don't need it.

They can't really kill you, just annoy you. That isn't broken or overpowered, nor do I think it warrants the change that has been enacted in my absence from the game. Gating was to get to a person who needs to be healed. They might not know a landmark or be lost or blind. In the spirit of Healer RP, they should be able to gate to people. So far, the best idea I have seen is a no_gate command, because evils would most likely always have it on, while others can still benefit from Healers curatives, etc.

Just make it so everyone can toggle no_gate except undeads. That way you could only gate to undeads without their permission. If you can find a vampire in 15 minutes, it's a big difference from teleporting to the same room as one instantaneously.
you could add a no_gate flag to all players (including undead, imo) similar to the toggleable no_summon flag.
Or, imo, the best idea is to make it possible to gate to good or neutral corpses, but not players. Makes it way easier for the healer to quickly resurrect, but negligeable abuse.
Well, that defeats the purpose, doesn't it? They are Healers, not Resurrectors. They should not be unable to reach someone who is unable to help themselves. That is the whole RP of a Healer -- to heal. Yes, I understand there was abuse, but that can easily be stopped. A no_gate flag for all players and a close eye on those who seem overly aggressive. That isn't going to allow them to scout for players or gate to you and attack. It is there to allow them to gate to someone with the intent on healing them.

Healers are the most lazy assed class there is. They already can gate to anywhere. Again, why is it needed? Only reason would be to give them more edge on undeads, and they already have enough. No, to the trashbin with this idea.

yeah really, they can gasp learn how to walk to the body, which they can find with locate. Heck the guy who killed them had to.
