Malchaeius
Virigoth posted this a while back in the prayer forums. With all of the nostalgia floating around, I thought I would make his private hello to us available to the community. So yesterday I decided to check how the place I spent a few years of my life in, is doing. There were questions: Was it still around? Did it disappear forever with my abrupt leave? Did it become so different I would not recognize it? I cannot tell you how it warms my heart to see that Forsaken Land has survived through last four years even though I did all but toss it in a garbage can when I left (very abruptly I might say). To see the labor of love that this community was to all of us (I've noticed many an old name in the forum actively posting) still beating fiercely with determination and enjoyment is a great testament to what makes MUDs as great as they are: The community spirit of the whole enterprise. In retrospect there were far better ways of handing off the MUD to ensure smooth continuity, however the fact that it has found another home and lives on is a sort of a gift to me from the Staff that has made it so. I have to thank you for that So Thank You I do not intend to encroach on what is now Your MUD, though I might if my bandwith allows make an odd character and share the unique mix of RP and adrenaline that FL has always offered. This is very special and unique to Forsaken Lands, the mix of extreme of what is usually opposite ends of MUD spectra: RP and PK, this is both a gift and a curse of FL since very few people have the dedication to excel and survive in both. FL will never be a MUD with a big population, because a large population detracts from what makes it attractive to those that cherish it and the segment of population that can really enjoy it is very small. I guess what I'm trying to say (partly sparked by a forum post I read on doubling the MUD population) is that beyond an excellent website, helpful ICly attitude and a good forum to cushion the first landing in the 30s there is little you can do to make someone stay in FL because of it's extreme nature To wrap this up in an elegant way: Thank you for your work for the community of FL, I know very well it's a thankless and difficult job. However the payoff is seeing something you poured your heart into, being cared for like a gem by people you worked your *** for. Witnessing that in itself is all the thanks you need. I don't have very much time to spare these days (my wedding is coming up in 4 weeks so it's time of suits, and planning and paying lots of money) but if you guys ever need help with some tough issue on the code side of things or you want to bounce some thoughts off of someone you can trust, you can always reach me at: [email removed in case he did not want it public] or [email removed] (however long I stay at EA anyway ). Voytek Plawny aka. Virigoth. PS. I'll make another forum user some other time that is not obviously Virigoth so I can lurk about
Nightmare_from_hell
Now if there was ever a competition for the best thanks a staff of any sort of endeavor, whether a business or a MUD, I can't think of a better one than having one of the originators throwing out mad props to you. Mudder
World shift initiated by Virigoth. World shift in 1 hours. Virigoth forces you to 'asve'. >save Saving... Virigoth forces you to 'save'. Saving... I always saved manually because it made me think I was going to not be saved before the shift. Hehe. Anyone else do that? Evangelion
Don't you realize the smiley is supposed to nullify those feelings? Malchaeius could post anything he wanted, and so long as he puts that cute little smiley face next to it, I feel safe and warm. Tomorrow's General Discussion Headlines could read: ":) Aabahran Closing Due to Cannibalism Accusations" or ":) Players With More Than 2000 Posts Sitebanned" and I would be perfectly happy.
