WagesofSin
I'm no computer wiz, so I'm turning to you guys for help. I have an old dell inspiron 1150 laptop that has 256mb of RAM. The max ammount of ram is listed at 1GB in the manual. Just how should I buy my ram? The max. each memory piece can be is 512mb, so obviously I need two 512mb sticks. What has got me wondering is whether there is anything else to take into acount? There is some additional info in the user manual that has got me scratching my head and I'm not sure if it's significant or not. Basically it says: Memory module connector: 2 user-accessible SODIMM sockets Memory module capacities: 64, 128, 256, and 512 MB Memory type: 2.5-V SODIMM Standard memory: 128 MB Maximum memory: 1 GB Memory access time: clock speed 266 MHz The clock speed has got me wondering, I notice that the ram sold in stores has a much higher MHz than what I have, will that be an issue? Guest emp_newb
so long as you use compatable ram, and do not wear wool gloves you should have no trouble at all.

Zhokril
Make sure you are getting compatible RAM (DDR/DDR2/etc). If its an older laptop it is probably DDR, which is unfortunate, because that type of RAM tends to be much more expensive than DDR2 since it is barely made any more. There are websites you can go to (try the dell website obviously) where you can plug in the model number and it will tell you what it needs. Ex-D&Der
The easiest way is to go the manufacturer website and find the upgrade for your model. Then you can call and see if they offer generic RAM (much cheaper than proprietary RAM, even if it's sold by your manufacturer). Else you can go to the website of a 3rd party memory seller and find compatible generic RAM.
