mya
If you are using emotes say, Please Please capitalize your first letter in sentence and end it with a punctuation mark (.,?!...). Newbie speaks beneath his dark hood 'am i cool or what' - Wrong Newbie speaks beneath his dark hood 'Am i cool or what ?' - Right It really improves the RP for some of us, who are listening to you. Nekky
You can set an alias for your says like this: alias say emote says in a loud voice "$" That way, every time you 'say' something, it will be like says in a loud voice 'Blah'. The trick to doing it is using the "message". emote runs around screaming, "Something".

Your example should get you yellow text. Also, make sure both of your quotes are the same.

Guest emp_newb
mushclient has easily toggled aliases Also you can program like say to be one alias sa to be another alias, etc etc
Evangelion
Or you can just use the apostrophe when you want to speak normally. Set "say" to a cool emote alias. Then use ' whenever you just want to speak normally. Also, am I the only one who finds it absolutely hilarious that Mya made a comment about correct grammar usage. And that said comment contained not one, but two grammatical errors?

Guest emp_newb
Naw. I just try to help people out by showing them the benefits of using such a wonderful client! A comprehensive macro, and alias system. With both immediate sending, and prompt fill out settings for both. The ease of use is fantastic, as well as it's level of customization, and the immense amount of base scripts that are available make it much better than the competition. Oh yea, if you haven't heard Mushclient rocks.

Mudder
RE: Evangelion: Yes. I found that amusing aswell. Am I the only person that hates "emote speech" ? Not only do people never properly punctuate them but people use them to sidestep their vulns. How? Why do so many ogres speak so perfectly half the time? How is it that I see so many drunks that speak so clearly in person? I always thought "emote speech" was for a rare and occasional moment of RP. To combine movement with speech when it makes sense to do so. Though I am seeing people that use "emote speech" as an alias for the say command and suddenly speaking normally is RARE for that character. I even notice people typing "emote says, " " Instead of using the command. Does anyone else feel this is abuse? There are more factors taken into consideration than just what appears to the player. I think many of you know what I am referring to and I also think that is why it has become so prevalent. If I see one more ogre or drunk that speaks so perfectly in person, I am going to freak out. Kyzarius
the "abuse" is marginal when compared with the atmosphere it brings. Old men sound raspy, young elves sound bold or valiant, madmen sound crazy. It adds color to a black & white world of speech. Without Emote-says everyone would sound the same UNLESS they where an ogre or drunk. So let the stone giant "Grumble from deep in his chest" or the restrung ball of light "glow with a red hue" as he speaks angrily. I would rather have the ability to convey that my character speaks in a cold vicious voice, and know that the faerie has a musical tenor than know when someone is drunk. I think many of you know what I am referring to and I also think that is why it has become so prevalent. The day RP that a character has thought out, and applied, becomes abuse, is the day I quit FL forever. I can think of MAYBE one instance in which it can be termed abuse. But for the most part i feel it adds an element to the game. Darf says "Lo der elfie boyo." Elf says "Hail master dwarf." OR Smote In a deep voice says "Lo der elfie boyo." Emote speaks in an eloquent, nearly graceful tone "Hail master dwarf." Both sections said the same thing. But the latter made it feel more realistic IMHO. I could never fault someone for trying to add flavor to black and white.
Twinblades713
I think he was more pointing out along the lines of skipping over being drunk, or ogre slurs, mostly. I think the most negative thing he said about regular character emote speech is that maybe it should be a rare occurrence. Every other negative intonation is on cool "educated" ogres who are too cool for being ogres with a slur because that's what they were coded to sound like as a basic guideline for being an ogre, and those that can't stand drunken babble so they emote say it away, or drunks who want to utilize being drunk to use it and then emote say things to skip over sounding drunk. His argument was sound to me.
Guest emp_newb
If that is the case, then I can kind of agree, but I do not think that is really abuse. How does an ogre gain from normal speech?

How does an ogre gain from normal speech?[/quote'] Not everything is mechanically dependent. But I agree, since they were coded to have slurs, I think people who want to roll ogres should speak with slurs. If you want mechanics, then... they can say numbers right with emote speech. (for all those who hate spelling out the words for the numbers, god forbid)
Mudder
Yes. When I referred to abuse I was talking about ogre/drunk. However there is another very important element that none of you seem to have realized and I will not push it further. I will just say that where is more abuse going on than the ogre/drunk and more directly related to "balance." I will also agree that emote speech DOES enhance roleplay. Though does it need to be used every time you speak? No. In fact, variation is key. Too much of a good thing can be bad. smote In a deep voice says "Lo der elfie boyo." - If a character did that EVERY single time it would be just as boring and bland as " says" Though spicing things up, and eliminating or reducing redundancy would make this tool much better. Redundancy you say? Yes. If someone speaks in a deep voice, it is easily assumed he will continue to speak in that same voice for the duration of the conversation unless told otherwise. How many books have you read lately that said, " speaks in a deep voice" every time the character said anything? Not many because no one wants to read that. Using aliases and "altering" your say command with emotes isn't better RP. It's lazy RP and it shows.
