This is a very good thread' date=' and an important one. I think the basic dynamic of the MUD is in a sense newbie unfriendly, in that the better you are the more power you get. This is true of equipment, qraces, and cabals. However, this was always true, and in some sense served as an inducement for people to play more so that they could get those rewards. Some of the change is due to broadband and other games out there--when I started most people were using dialup, and things like WoW didn't exist. But I do think the change to cabals and equipment furthered this trend. I would recommend boosting cabal powers of inductees and making cabal membership a reward for RP, and boost the power of ordinary rares, maybe bring back svs, and also make gold easier to get. Also I would reduce the time requirement for cabal membership, so that you don't have to play every day to be in a cabal (although is it now just an hour a week or something?).[/quote']
You certainly dont have to play every day to be in a cabal. Take Rinthilaz for instance, he was Leader of a Cabal and he was seen i think 4 times in the 350+- hours I played Tarandil, and I played a lot, and condied quick

I'm not saying Elders and Leaders should get powerful abilities, just not that powerful. I must admit though, I just started playing again and haven't experienced anything of the pinns yet.
But, I feel that making it so it is nearly impossible to kill those in a cabal unless you're in a cabal limits RP. I don't like any of the cabals with my current char. I'm not going for one. Just for that fact, I'll never (a little blow out of proportion with the "never" word here) be able to compete at 50. Is that "fair"? I hate using the term fair, but if this is an RP and PK MUD, then why should those that have an RP that doesn't align with any of the current cabals be hindered at PK at 50?
And, LA, I very much agree that a powerful leader is a good thing. Leaders should be the ones who can walk into battle facing unsurmountable odds and come out on top. That's why they're leaders. But I think that should be given to those who have the skill to do that on their own, not because they have talent with their char and a "badass" skill.
I must admit, I know very little of the 50 range now. And much of what I'm basing my ideas/opinions on are what I saw when I was playing back in 1.0 and 2.0.
As for opening all the quest races and classes up, I don't agree with that. But what I do agree with is lowering the standards for them. Not making them so easy that anyone can do it, but making it so you'll see more than 2 on in a blue moon. I've been playing every day, at random hours, and I haven't seen an Undead or Demon at all. Nor a crusader, psi, or vamp. That might be because I don't remember the titles of those classes anymore, or certain vamp skill, but I'm pretty sure I've still got that info down.
I guess this leads me to a question, has there been any non cabaled, quest raced/classed players who did a great job at 50 recently?

Holy crap, you being back didn't even register in my head until now, a-g. I might have to start playing again myself.
